I was pretty surprised to hear that Wii Fit has just beaten Grand Theft Auto IV in video game sales — who woulda thunk it that the Nintendo-exercising contingent would best the shoot-em-up contingent?If you followed my progress, you'd know that I lost a few pounds and gained some skills in my month-long Wii Fitness challenge, so I'm a believer, but that was several months ago. I've been looking everywhere for a Wii Fit Yoga Mat ever since I saw it in the DreamGear Fitness Bundle, and behold — just yesterday I spotted the fit-worthy accessory in the game section of Target, and had to hold myself back from dropping it in my cart (gotta prioritize game accessories in this economy, right?). But I suppose the $30 price isn't too much to spend on my favorite Wii Fit exercise!

Wii Fit Balance Board Silicone Sleeves: Love or Leave?

Apparently what a geek wants is to coat all her gadgets in gels. They're ubiquitous among BlackBerrys and iPhones, and I've seen them for Mighty Mice (mouses?), and now: Silicone Sleeves for the Wii Fit Balance Board ($20). I have a love/hate relationship with gel cases; while they're great at protecting your gear (especially in the case of a fall), the light ones tend to get discolored and murky looking, and they are lint-magnets (ever leave your gel-covered BlackBerry in your handbag with a floating tissue? Oy vey). I also haven't noticed that my balance board needs protecting, but the silicone might make a more comfortable surface underfoot. What do you think?

Wii Fit Fitness Journal: A Retrospective

Although my Wii Fit 30 day Challenge is over, I have continued to use it and enjoy its benefits - I've taken up yoga, but I'm still enlisting the WF to guide me through some great balance games and strength training workouts at home. And even though Wii creator Shigeru Miyamoto stated in a recent Wired Magazine interview, that the Wii Fit is more of a "communication tool for families and a form of interactive entertainment" than a game, as far as I'm concerned I'd still call it a pretty good (and fun) workout. Wii Fit Fitness Journal: Week Four

Well, my month long journey with the Wii Fit has come to an end. Although I had a lot of fun (and lost a few pounds in the process), I'm actually excited to take my workouts to the next level! I was never a gym class sort of person, but using the Wii Fit's yoga workouts, really have me itching to get back to the gym and try out a full-fledged yoga class!

Needless to say, I had a blast training with the Wii Fit, and am actually planning on getting one for my parents this Christmas, since my dad really loved the balance games! Usually GiggleSugar writes about the travails of being a douchebag, but here's a story for the geek history books: An enterprising YouTuber filmed his girlfriend (allegedly without her knowing ) while she played Wii Fit Hula Hooping in her underwear.

And then because that wasn't sketchy enough, he posted it on YouTube! Apparently its viral-ness got so out of control (over 2 million views), that people are even suspecting Nintendo of being behind it — as a viral marketing campaign. They said they had nothing to do with the video, but that they hope she dumped him, too. (Kidding.)

Anderson Cooper Thinks a Wii Is a Why-ee

One would assume that with over 24 million Nintendo Wii's sold worldwide, CNN news anchor Anderson Cooper would be up to speed with gaming console trends. Not so much. In this clip you'll see Cooper referring to the Wii as the Why-ee. . . no word of a lie. Thankfully his partner in crime Erica Hill spoiled him for his birthday by giving him a Wii and Wii Fit (wait a minute, he's a Gemini too?!). Let's just hope that his new tech treats will be put to good use. . . and no more calling the Wii a Why-ee!

Wii Fit Fitness Journal: Week Three

My 30 day Wi Fit Fitness Challenge is fast approaching the home stretch, and I couldn't be happier with the results! In just three weeks, I'm down four pounds, which may not seem like a lot, but it's pretty awesome considering I stopped my usual routine of going to the gym and didn't change my eating habits. Although I might miss my goal of losing eight pounds, I think losing any inches (and getting closer to a healthier BMI) is a pretty good testament that the Wii Fit really does work.

I spent a ton of time getting down with Rhythm Boxing, and increased my aerobic fitness (surely at the dismay of my downstairs neighbors) with the Free Run this week. I'm not so enthused about jogging in the real world, but when it comes to running with Wii Fit, I'm a calorie burner! Who knew!? I'm absolutely hooked on my Wii Fit, and I'm not ashamed to say it. Although I have yet to get a kick-butt aerobic workout like I do at my gym during cardio kickboxing, I'm finding myself to be more flexible than ever — plus, I think I even stand up straighter! My dominant workouts this week were yoga (I can't believe how much I'm loving it) and running. Taking on the Island Run for the first time was really fun, since I got to check out the lay of the virtual land (which is pretty sweet, by the way).

Plus, once you're finished with your jaunt that's worth 10 minutes in your Wii Fit Bank, you'll surely need that sweat towel (especially if you use my tip from last week to hold full water bottles or weights in your hands while you're running)!

Wii Fit Fitness Journal: Week One

So far, me and the Wii Fit are good pals. He knows how to make me laugh, how to sweat, and shows me what I'm made of — we're a good pair. This week, although a few days short of a full seven days of dissecting WF, it was a good one. I can tell from the soreness in my hips and abs that the time put into perfecting my Hula Hooping skills is paying off. Additionally, I've found that my endless tree and warrior poses are indeed helping my flexibility! Who knew that in the first week I could feel this many results off of a game.

At first, I thought that I may get bored with the same games every day, but thankfully, every ten minutes you put in on the Wii Fit, opens up a new activity. And every time you repeat an activity, a new difficulty level challenges you for a better, longer, or harder workout. Last night I ran the moderate trail on my run and actually broke a bit of a sweat! No kidding! First Look at the Wii Fit and Rules for the Fitness Test

Yesterday, I hit the gym. . .I mean, the Wii Fit for a taste of what's to come in my 30 day Wii Fit Fitness Test. Although I wasn't expecting to break a sweat, I did have a nice dewy glow after trying out a few of the Wii Fit's features. My fave so far? Hula Hooping!

You may be wondering what rules I'll be setting for myself this month as I begin the 30 day Wii Fit Fitness Test. They are simple, but I can promise that I'll stick to them to give you the most accurate results possible. I'll even stop hitting the gym and make Wii Fit my only source of exercise for a full month! Am I scared? No. Cause even if I don't lose a pound, I'm sure I'll have a blast anyway.

I was overjoyed when I walked into the office this morning to find a big rectangular box sitting on my desk just begging to be opened. Oh yes my friends, it's the Wii Fit! I'm lucky enough to get an advance taste of the exergaming monster and bring you the inside scoop on all the posing, toning, and reflex gaming goods. Not only am I looking forward to a more relaxed state of mind with yoga, but having some child-like fun with hula hooping, too!

And to truly test out the power of Wii Fit, I'll be conducting my own experimental 30 Day Fitness Journal, and share my results with all of you right here on geeksugar. Just like what Mickey DeLorenzo did for Wii Sports, I will do for Wii Fit. I guess it's a rite of passage that you freak out before your wedding — whether it's over the flower arrangements, the cake, or your body. Although you should never stoop to crash dieting (I know Fit would tell you the same), it may actually help you to chill out by playing a video game. Bonus, if those games are interactive and get your blood pumping, you might just lose a few pounds while you're at it and tip the scales in your favor.

We all know what a workout you can get by playing Dance Dance Revolution, right? While having a blast matching your foot movements with the beat, in one hour you could be burning up to 900 calories! Not to mention, it might help you learn a few moves for the reception.

Wii Stripper Pole Game: Fun or Sexist?

I've been a little bit hesitant to write about the Wii Fit Stripper Pole game because I'm a little conflicted. But since it appears that it's going to happen, here we go! A Stripper Pole game disturbs me a little, but since it's part of Wii Fit, I think of it as the same level as those stripping exercise classes that popped up a few years ago and seemed cheeky and fun. It's also a fun, hopefully private (close those shades) way to work out and explore a fantasy, so what's the harm, right?On the other hand, with the release of GTA IV and its supply of hookers once again, I'm leery of the intent here and I can get in that place of worrying about where the video game industry is placing their female fans. How do you feel about a stripper pole game?

The Westin to Get Physical With the Wii Fit

Usually I get all excited when I find out a hotel has free WiFi, but ever since the Westin announced its plan to offer complimentary Wiis for guests, I'm starting to think that every hotel should be equipped with Wii gaming consoles.

It doesn't stop there. Nintendo has just teamed up with Westin Hotels to offer Wii Fit and Wii Sports to its WestinWORKOUT program, so that guests can get fit while having lots of fun. Nintendo will also be providing the hotel chain with Wiis that will automatically update with new games.

Hotels to initially receive the gaming goods in May include: The Westin Hilton Head, The Westin Crown Center, Kansas City, The Westin Harbor Castle, Toronto, The Westin Diplomat, Hollywood, The Westin St. Francis, San Francisco — (yay!), The Westin St. Louis, The Westin Galleria, Houston, and The Westin Savannah Harbor. And more to follow, depending on the yay or nay feedback from guests.

Diane Sawyer Wii Skiing: A Must See

Looks like the lovely get fit and have fun Wii Fit will be making its way to store shelves sooner than its expected May 19 release and here's to hoping I can kiss my gym membership goodbye! Said to be priced at $90, (Wii Balance Board included), the Wii Fit may just be your ticket to that summer beach bod you've desperately been trying to achieve — well maybe not. After watching Diane Sawyer and the rest of the Good Morning America crew take the Wii Fit for a test drive, I don't think I saw a drop of sweat or anything that resembled a serious workout. Watch the vid below and tell me if you think this is going to be a calorie burner or not? I say not so much, but then again, maybe "fake skiing" will do a body good?!

At the 2008 Game Developers Conference here in San Francisco, Nintendo has finally announced a May 19th launch date for the much talked about Wii Fit. Having sold over 1.4 million units in Japan so far, it seems as if exergaming has become more popular than some originally thought. 2008 Video Game Preview: Part I

As awesome as 2007 was for gaming, with the release of some of the most advanced games yet, 2008 seems to have a few tricks up its sleeve for us, too. Although Super Mario Galaxy, Halo and Guitar Hero will be on heavy rotation for months to come, I have a feeling that we'll need to make room in our closets for some new faves.

In the first of this three part series, we'll look at four of the twelve coolest games to hit the shelves in the next twelve months. Kicking it off will be the newest title in an uber-creepy series, a fast paced racer that encourages destruction, a revolutionary newcomer and a little something to help you work on your fitness. Game On!

Resident Evil 5
If you're a fan of Resident Evil, you will most likely dig the newest installment of zombified Haitians, eerie sounds, and guns, lots of guns, which you'll want to keep fully loaded. Although it might be hard to top the scare factor of RE4 that left me wanting to leave a light on before bed! Sure to scare you this year on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Not Everyone's Convinced About Wii Fit

I get it. I get it. Not everyone is as excited about exergaming or the newly announced Wii Fit board as FitSugar and me. The folks over at Scarcastic Gamer have put together a charmingly smug video poking fun of the Wii Fit board for being "a little white thing you stand on." To quote the voiceover's best line: "For far too long video game consoles have limited themselves to being fun and entertaining, but with Wii Fit the skies the limit as you explore new exercises like leaning side to side...Standing in place has never been more fun." Touché.

Wii Fit Takes Exergaming To The Board

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto showed up at this week's E3 to demonstrate a brand-new fitness game called Wii Fit and while I wasn't present, I'm pretty excited about the idea. The game looks like it will be similar to the ever popular mat game Dance Dance Revolution, and will take measurements of your body and plot your fitness levels over time. Apparently, if you're feeling a little cocky you can even plot your stats against your friends'.

According to Technabob, the small, flat controller, called the “Wii Balance Board,” lays on the ground and detects your body movements as you exercise. It can also measure your body mass index to show you your progress as you regularly work out. Looks like FitSugar and I are going to have a new obsession! To watch a video preview of the game,
