Now that even airplanes have WiFi access, there are very few "dead zones" when it comes to cell and wireless service. But until now, there's been one place with very limited reception — and it may surprise you! The New York City subway system has always been without WiFi or cell service in its subway tunnels and stations.

With the weather picking up, I've been connecting to my WiFi connection on my rooftop when I have work to do at home and when I just want to surf the Internet. It's got me thinking I should create a more permanent (or portable) work setup outside, so I can enjoy the sun and be productive whenever I want. A table and chair are a given, as well as a tablecloth.

We have been expecting a new version of the popular Nook ereader since update rumors began in April, and now there seems to be confirmation that something called Nook WiFi is set to be released later this week.
Screenshots of a Barnes and Noble inventory database show a WiFi-only Nook could be coming on Wednesday, June 23 for $150. This model would presumably be stocked with the same touchscreen interface you know and love from the Nook, as well as new web browsing, games, and performance features that were added in the v1.3 update a few months ago, but would be sans-3G access.

Here's one way to get people to stick around for Frappy Hour — Starbucks posted a tweet this morning alerting followers that it'll be rolling out free WiFi in all stores to all customers. No registration, no strings attached. Previously, Starbucks card holders could hook up for two hours, while AT&T hotspot users could suck down all the free Internet they could handle.

Starting this Fall, all Amtrak trains may have free wireless Internet access. WiFi access, which is currently available on the Acela trains in the northeast, has been a huge hit; 39 percent of riders have logged in to date. With those kinds of stats, the rail company is planning to offer access on all of its trains nationwide.

It seems that overheating in the sun isn't the iPad's only issue — users are complaining of WiFi connectivity issues that generally occur after the iPad has gone to sleep and won't automatically reconnect to a known WiFi signal upon waking. If you are experiencing these problems as well, Apple has posted some suggestions on how to fix it on its forum page, which outline that the issues could be with your router or network settings.
If you're finding that your iPad doesn't always rejoin your WiFi network after waking or powering on, see what Apple suggests you do to remedy the problem after the break.

Most chargers require an outlet, and solar chargers require direct sunlight, but a new concept developed by RCA will soon charge your gadgets via a WiFi connection. Unlike the Case-Mate Hug, which uses a wireless signal and magnet to juice up your cell phone, the RCA Air Power will absorb excess WiFi signal and convert it to power. The exact science behind it seems a little confusing, but the engineers at RCA say it works!
