As much as I have championed the ability of the iPhone to replace two devices and it has allowed me stop carrying my iPod every day, I will in no way stop being fascinated by iPod speakers. Having all your music archived on an iPod, combined with a home speaker, makes a compact and comprehensive stereo system, which brings me to my next point: Thank God for MP3 players and speakers, because the stereo systems of old were so very bachelor pad, quite unlike the Vers iPod Sound System from Design Public.

To get great audio and your entire music collection, you don't have to outfit your house in bookshelves stuffed full of CDs or records or boat-sized speakers. Your system can be a pretty little box like the Vers, which is more efficient, beautiful, and makes you feel responsible, as it's made from hand-crafted wood. These speakers on legs, created by 6moons' David Kan, remind me of plant stands, but in the best way possible. It sucks to have great speakers hanging around the house but having to either put them on the ground or maneuver them onto any usable surface, especially when, as a geek, you took time to hunt down the best-sounding speakers!

Kan's solution is an easy, pretty cheap (comparatively), and good-looking one — he used Ikea butcher block and legs and got drilling. 6moons has step-by-step instructions if you want to brave the DIY front and get an awesome-looking set of custom speaker stands!

Pottery Barn has added some youthful and colorful flair to their Smart Tech furniture line, resulting in a skateboard shelf that plays your totally tubular tunes. It comes with two built-in speakers, easy-mount French cleats, and a dock that’s compatible with most iPods. The models definitely rids the Smart Tech line of its "understated and hidden" reputation, but I imagine they'd be pretty cute in a child's room.

When I first discovered these cardboard speakers, I have to admit, I was totally on the fence about their aesthetics and functionality. If the natural cardboard exterior didn't do it for you the first time around, you'll be happy to know that there's now a wide range of colors and designs to choose from. Still very affordable at $15, these eco-chic speakers that I saw on GeekAlerts are made from recycled materials, they don't require batteries and can fold flat for easy portability. As I said before, I'm not quite certain on sound quality, but they do seem like a handy travel companion!

When I spotted them on the Uber Review, I instantly thought they were a concept design, but they are in fact the real deal! I've seen these earth-friendly cardboard speakers, which are made from recycled materials, a couple times and can't quite figure out what I think about them. On the one hand it's neat that they are made of recycled materials, but on the other hand, can we honestly trust their sound quality? Apparently each speaker folds flat for convenient storage and portability. They cost $15.

If you like gadgets that deliver the goods but aren't covered with buttons and LED lights, this wooden radio/speaker combo may do the trick. Discussed on Geekalerts, this retroesque speaker can connect to your mp3 player and comes with knobs on the top for volume, frequency and switching from AM to FM. AMP Speaker/Desk: Love It or Leave It?

I had to do a double take when I learned that this AMP speaker system by Pieter Maes could also be used as a desk. Is it just me or does the white laptop look like a DS Lite? I literally thought the desk was two feet tall and totally impractical—I could easily throw in a Zoolander quote here but I'll keep this one kind. Featured on Gizmodo, the AMP speaker works with both iPod's and laptops. With an internal amplifier, all you need to do is hook up your portable music device via the audio jack and start playing your music. Considering this is actually a decent sized desk, it gets two thumbs up in my book. No word on pricing. What do you think? Let me know below!

Why anyone would want these huge black speakers in their living room is beyond me, especially when they look like something you'd see at a rock concert (minus the gold of course). Showcased on bornrich, this $150,000 D-music system from Steinway Lyngdorf, yes $150,000, includes speakers weighing almost half a ton that are finished in lustrous piano black lacquer. Forget the fact that they include Mr. Lyngdorf’s revolutionary RoomPerfect technology, what do you think about them in a living room? Too much tech for one room or do these speakers look kinda chic?

These compact speakers by Elecom are one of those ideal travel gadgets because they combine both speakers and headphones into one so you don't have to lug around extra devices. Wouldn't you agree that this iPod accessory mimics the traditional camera with tripod set-up? Recently announced by Focal Corp Japan, this three-legged Boomtune Mini speaker system, which by the way is named "Julia," connects to the iPod via a 3.5mm stereo plug. Straight from New Launches, two of the tripod legs come with speakers while the third operates as the battery compartment. Unfortunately there isn't a docking station, which I've certainly grown accustomed to and quite frankly can't live without! Currently available from Japan for 4480 Yen or $39.

Creative has just come out with a new portable speaker called the Travelsound i50, which looks like an ideal place to dock your 2G shuffle. You just connect your headphone output of the Shuffle to the speaker and snap on the clear protective cover and you'll instantly be a human boombox. Discussed on technabob, the Travelsound i50 can be clipped onto a loop or bag and is powered by a lithium battery with a life span of approximately fifteen hours in one charge. USB connectivity charges both the music device and the speaker. Currently only available in Japan for around $69, but should soon be released in other countries as well.

Our friends at Apartment Therapy were a little hard on this "wireless, glowing, obelisk shaped speaker system" because of its shape. We on the other hand, think it's rather chic.

It uses NXT flat panel speaker technology to give off 2.1 stereo sound in a single unit. For about $70 extra you can order a collection of additional customizable "skins" (like the one above). I'm not too keen on the idea of covering the system with funky prints, because I actually like the glowing, musical tower idea.

The speaker itself costs $443, and you can get a wireless iPod docking station for $222. Are we crazy for thinking this speaker set could double as a neat kitsch piece for your bedroom or living room?

I've honestly never considered purchasing a speaker for my shower or bathroom because bath time is often my 20-minute escape from all media and sound , but this Net Waterproof Juke Tower MP3 Speaker may have sold me. It's a one-of-a-kind waterproof speaker for use in your bathroom or outdoors, but it's so small and sleek it would fit right in with shampoo bottles. It features an embedded LED clock (you gotta know when to hop out of the bath) as well as track display.

It's all white with 2GB of storage for up to 12 hours of playback time using only 3 AA batteries. Detachable USB drive allows user to drag-and-drop music from either PC or Mac (and leave the Juke Tower in your bathroom). I wish it was charged by USB, but you can't have everything. It costs $129.

Although these soft speaker cushions look like a stuffed toy on the outside, I guarantee you that they are 100 percent speaker on the inside. Displayed on technabob, these speakers from Korea have a built-in FM radio, an amplified speaker, and can easily connect to an MP3 player. Each costs about $37 and is battery-powered. I apologize for exhausting you with yet another iPod speaker bag, but I promise that this design is more geek chic than totally geeky, even if it is faux leather.

Featured on 7 Gadgets, the Groove bag by Felicidade looks like a giant clutch handbag that you'd pair with pumps for a day of shopping.
What I like about it is the iPod Cradle and the fact that the two speakers blend in with its exterior, making it more conspicuous than other iPod bags. Although I'm still debating whether or not I'd actually use it! Priced at $100.

I got a chance to check out Samsung's new lineup of gadgets and gizmos this week and was very impressed with their upcoming Samsung MM-X5 MP3 Player Docking Station. It plays content from MP3 players, including any generation Apple iPod as well as CDs. The device has a built-in USB port that allows for instant music file playback from a standard USB memory drive as well, so if you're too lazy to put your music on your player you can just plug in your flash drive.

The MM-X5 comes in Samsung's token piano finish black and unlike some of the more simple docks on the market features a built-in display and an alarm that lets consumers select songs to wake up to. It features built-in 20 Watt speakers (10 Watts each), combined with Samsung's Digital Natural Sound engine technology. Available this October for $199.

For those of you who like to think of your gadgets as a piece of modern art, which I guess they essentially are anyways, these tall and tiny flexible Personal Speakers by Sony could add to your collection. Not only are they extremely functional with good sound output and multiple device connectivity, but they are aesthetically appealing with their minimalistic design.

Tivoli Audio has released a special, limited edition crystal Audio System, which while completely impractical provides a fresh look to the usually childish novelty speaker genre. I always like finding tiny gadgets that you can throw in a bag and take with you traveling or on-the-go, but I'm wondering if this is taking tiny to the extreme. These miniature wooden speakers which were displayed on Geekologie may look like a concept creation, but they actually do work! Straight from Korea, these speakers have an output of 1.5 watts and can give you five hours of playback. Priced at $45. And I thought the Cuby was ultra small?!
