Two things that don't come cheap — porcelain and beautiful speakers. And with that I bring you these handcrafted ceramic speakers that certainly set the standard for speaker greatness. With 4-inch full-range drivers, a T-class amplifier, and because they are encased in porcelain and cork, you can imagine how amazing the sound output is.

Let me start off by saying that this is not a birdcage. Although I wouldn't mind the sound of a little bird tweeting to wake me up in the morning (instead of my annoying alarm clock), this is something way geekier.
Called the Music Cage, this speaker plays your tunes wirelessly over a computer or a Bluetooth connection via your mobile phone.

I love my iPod speakers, but they're definitely not as design forward as the Science and Sons' Phonofone II (on sale for $425, originally $495). The classic phonograph player, which was invented at the very end of the 19th century, is the inspiration for the Phonophone II, which has been updated for the 21st century. Made of cast ceramic, this art-meets-old-school-technology sculptural object was designed by Tristan Zimmerman for Science+Sons, and works as an amplifier for an iPod or MP3 player.

Can you hear me now? It's rare that I come across something that has me tossing all reasoning out the window, and immediately reaching for my credit card. When I first saw this pair of six-watt Speak-er speech bubble speakers ($120), I knew I had to have them.

When I saw Apartment Therapy's Home geek tip that I didn't know existed, I had to try it out. While on vacation, they forgot iPhone speakers, and therefore improvised by putting their iPhone in a cabinet, which acted as a makeshift speaker.
They say "the wood warmed it up and gave it a little more resonance than it would normally have."

Can't get enough of the constant Olympic coverage on TV and the Internet? Overnight yourself this Bird's Nest USB Speaker ($12) (in the likeness of Beijing's Olympic stadium to those who've been on a media blackout) and don't let yourself suffer from Olympics withdrawal for one moment.
Brought to you by your friendly neighborhood USB creators, who will never let a thing go by without USB-ifying it!

As much as I have championed the ability of the iPhone to replace two devices and it has allowed me stop carrying my iPod every day, I will in no way stop being fascinated by iPod speakers. Having all your music archived on an iPod, combined with a home speaker, makes a compact and comprehensive stereo system, which brings me to my next point: Thank God for MP3 players and speakers, because the stereo systems of old were so very bachelor pad, quite unlike the Vers iPod Sound System from Design Public.
To get great audio and your entire music collection, you don't have to outfit your house in bookshelves stuffed full of CDs or records or boat-sized speakers.

Just because most of you were in love with Pottery Barn's smart tech speaker shelf, I thought I'd show you something similar with a bit more edge — the Rockin' Speaker Shelf. Forget the fact that it's in the "teen" section of Pottery Barn's website, this speaker shelf could easily be above a couch in a living room decked out with candles, some artwork and picture frames. Not only does it provide lots of shelf space and built-in speakers, but it also comes with a dock so you can charge your iPhone or iPod as well.

Yes, that Commodore 64 you've got gathering dust in your garage does qualify as vintage geek, but it lacks a certain je ne sais quoi. That is, it's not cute enough to put its quirky obsolescence on display.
Want something that can?
