The BlackJack II by Samsung Debuts Style

Last night I put on my party dress and attended the star-studded BlackJack II by Samsung launch party in LA. Held at the hot new Mexican restaurant Beso (which officially opens mid-December) and hosted by self-confessed gadget girl Eva Longoria, my partner in crime Molly and I rocked out to a special performance by Mark Ronson and the Version Players and, best of all, got to check out the BlackJack II.

The AT&T exclusive Samsung BlackJack is a lot sleeker then I envisioned, and I was thoroughly impressed with the large 2.2-inch color display screen. This new Windows Mobile 5.0 PDA is powered by AT&T's 3G-enabled Broadband Connect network, includes an easy-to-use navigation click wheel, and comes with a 1.3-megapixel camera, which we all know is a must have! The BlackJack II boasts a full QWERTY keyboard for fast typing and Bluetooth connectivity and is available in slick black or red wine color options. After examining the BlackJack II, I was able to chat with CrunchGear's Peter Ha about cell phones and his love for his heavy 3-year-old Sidekick, which was totally adorable.

The party really got started when I kicked off my shoes and joined LC and Audrina for a dance session as we belted out Rihanna's "Umbrella." When we sat down to catch our breaths, the ladies pulled out their BlackBerrys for what else - texting! Call me a deer in the headlights, but after all our Hills tech quizzes, I didn't know if I should take a picture or start talking in text acronyms - what's a girl to do? So I joined in. But instead of using my BlackBerry Pearl, I pulled out my iPhone, hoping to score a few cool points, which I don't think happened. All in all, a very memorable evening indeed!
Samsung's BlackJack II Pops Up in Pink and Blue

It's certainly been awhile since we've heard anything about the BlackJack II smartphone by Samsung, so I'm not surprised that some freshly painted pink and blue BlackJack II's have been spotted in the wild - even though it's usually Palm making all the cell phone color changes.

AT&T hasn't confirmed this great news just yet, but these candy colored phones are said to already be arriving in stores across the country and will cost around the same price as the basic black and wine colored BJ II's. Considering they're affordable and include geeky goodies like built-in GPS and Windows Mobile 6, these may be worth watching out for. Phones will have white face plates with either a pink or blue exterior color on the back. Stay tuned indeed!
The BlackJack II by Samsung: Yay or Nay?

After my brief encounter with the BlackJack II at the Samsung/AT&T launch party in LA, I knew that I needed a one-on-one test drive session with this new sleek smartphone. What's great about this wine colored phone is the fact that it is lightweight, yet it feels sturdy and durable. Since the back is lined with a soft leather-like material, you can easily grip the phone in your hand while making a call or checking messages. The most appealing features of the BlackJack II include the internal GPS which comes with the latest version of TeleNav GPS, Windows Mobile 6 functionality and the included AT&T video share capable SIM card. Also included is a standard 2.0-megapixel camera, bluetooth technology and a QWERTY keyboard with front jog wheel. What's not so hot about this phone you ask? There's no WiFi, but I think the GPS makes up for it! Priced at $150 with a 2-year contract and when you purchase it online.

View 5 Photos ›

Slimmer Sleek And Smarter Phones By Samsung

Everyone wants a phone that does it all - emailing, messaging, net surfing, you name it! Companies like Samsung are jumping on the smartphone bandwagon by creating more slimmer, sleek and smarter phones.

"The pressure on mobile professionals and business consumers to stay wired into their e-mail and Internet while away from the office continues to grow by leaps and bounds, said Dale Sohn, President, Samsung Telecommunications America. To meet that need, Samsung has several quality messaging and smart phones that provide e-mail, voice and Internet services while remaining slim and sleek. We look forward to bringing consumers more devices, such as the SCH-i760, a CES Innovations Award Honoree."

To keep up with the competition, Samsung has created the
Blackjack, an ultra sleek smartphone with wireless access and beautiful high resolution color. Go to Samsung online to check out other additions to the smartphone line, including the Samsung SGH-t719.

AT&T Announces the Samsung Jack Smartphone

And just like the BlackJack II (and the iPhone), it will work on AT&T's 3G network, so you're guaranteed speedy Internet browsing, emailing, and SMS-ing.

The phone also features video-capture capabilities, GPS-based applications, and all the goodies you'd find in Windows Mobile like the ability to manage Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents from your phone. Even better, this phone will only cost $99.99 ($199.99 base price) after a mail-in rebate.

To see all of the phone's bells and whistles, just read more.

Picture Perfect Tech: Cell Phones From What Happens in Vegas

I guess you could say I've been on a bit of a movie kick lately, seeing Iron Man and all its tech treats two short weeks ago and then back to the theaters this past weekend for some hilarious What Happens in Vegas action.

This movie features Cameron Diaz who plays Joy, a stockbroker from Manhattan, and the leading man Jack, played by Ashton Kutcher. Both meet in Vegas for a wild night out on the town and find themselves dealing with a lot more than they bargained for once the night is over. For those who haven't seen it, I won't go into great detail and spoil it for you . . . but I absolutely must reveal some of the tech treats this geek had her eye on throughout the movie!

Samsung had some serious pull in this film, hooking up Cameron with a BlackJack II smartphone. This sleek black cell is certainly an all-in-one phone, boasting TeleNav GPS, a camera, Windows Mobile 6, Bluetooth, and a QWERTY keyboard with a front jog wheel (similar to the iPod wheel).

And to see what sexy Samsung phone Ashton was sporting in the movie (he makes any phone looks sexy in this movie), just read more!

Jack was regularly spotted with a Samsung SGH-a727 cell. Considered the "multimedia friendly phone," the SGH-a727 isn't nearly as wide as the BlackJack II, but it's just as powerful. With this phone you can stream video, IM your friends with all the popular chat platforms, listen to tunes via Bluetooth, or take video footage with the video record option. This phone only costs $50.

As far as I'm concerned MTV's new teenage reality show Newport Harbor will never rival Laguna Beach, or The Hills in the drama or glamor departments, but it might give both shows a run for their money when it comes to number of cell phone and gadgets scenes in each episode. I was flipping through channels the other day and can confirm what communication experts have been saying for months: Teens don't need e-mail, cause they text message.

After a little research (no, I couldn't sit through an episode, but I could do some internet searching) I learned Chrissy has cell phone issues cause her father always calls to check up on her. Allie likes to leave mean voice-mails on her LG phone and Chase likes to call Taylor incessantly when she goes on dates with other guys. If only my problems were so simple.

So what cell phones are hot in the 15-18 market? read more

Supposedly Allie rocks a Samsung U740 Gold Phone, but in the picture above she's got an LG CU400

Samsung Releases Phones Just For...Us?

Gadgets made to appeal to women often hit the mark, like the chicness of the sleek black exterior of the Armani phone and the innovative iPhone - aesthetic design is a main selling point, after all. I think pink gadgets are cute sometimes, and am glad that the industry caters to all tastes, but I have little patience for the short-sightedness that comes out of "what women want" think tanks - dare I ask if you remember the "ShePhone"?

That's why I was surprised when I saw on Gizmodo that Samsung, the makers of the fabulous Blackjack and aforementioned Armani phone, has created these "fashion phones," the SGH-L310, and the SGH-L320. Theses phones, which are set to become available in Russia next month and soon after in Europe (no info yet on if or when they'll come to the US), have some cool designs and feature "female applications" - which got me excited, hoping they may have hit on some great new things.

But I'm underwhelmed: The new applications are a shopping list, a calorie counter, and a perfume matcher. I'm not saying I'm completely disinterested in these things, but I can't help but feel stereotyped and a little insulted. Isn't there more to us than spending and bad body image, especially as geeks who buy these gadgets?

Tell me, if you were building a cell phone with the women who read this site in mind, what applications would you include for us?
