It's still very cold outside, and scarves and gloves are de rigeur for my wardrobe. Would I use this knitted Princess Peach Scarf to stave off the cold? I'm not sure it would go with my every outfit, but I can't hate any piece of apparel that features my OG video game goddess.The $155 price tag, on the other hand, turns me away — although it is a handmade Etsy item, so you're paying for quality and love. Would You Rather: MacBook Air or MSI X320?

We've heard this all before: MSI introduced an ultralight and portable laptop at CES yesterday that is touted to be an "Air Killer." Humm, I'm not so sure about that just yet, but it is a 2.9 pound, 1.98 centimeter package with a 13-inch widescreen (16:9) display (virtually a Macbook Air clone), so it's sounding pretty good so far. What's the biggest jaw dropper about the MSI? The price tag that starts at a whopping $1100 dollars cheaper than the Air at $700 bucks. Now, of course I'd need to know more details (ports, memory, hard drive space, etc.), but the X320 is looking pretty darn nice, especially since saving money is kinda key right now. Source

It's quite the litigious news day for the Internet, what with the news that a Yelp user is being sued for his negative review of a doctor, and a model is suing Google because of anonymous nasty comments about her which were posted on a Blogger-hosted blog.Disregarding the validity of each case, they both present interesting cases for how we should and shouldn't use the Internet; as for Yelp, you're supposed to be able to post negative reviews (reviews tending to be one way or the other); will each negative claim be investigated? Could I be sued for not being able to prove that I found a hair in my burrito?As for the nasty comments on a blog, I'm pretty sure this model will be told one way or another that a thicker skin is in order. Or will she? What are her rights (or anyone that's bullied) in comparison to the freedom of speech of the anonymous poster?What do you think? Software company VGChartz says that Wii Sports is the world's best-selling video game, which has raised more than a few eyebrows. I certainly credit the game for being a great introduction to the Wii itself (there's a reason that it comes with the console), and to selling people on the Wii and casual gaming in general. Best-selling is certainly different than saying it's the best (you said the best for 2008 was the Wii Fit), and I also wonder if the fact that the sales of the Wii are so good that Wii Sports is getting the props because it's included. In any case, it has surpassed Super Mario Bros. in sales, which could not have been an easy feat. So tell me, all things considered, are you surprised that the world's best-selling video game is Wii Sports?Source

I've made my predictions for what 2009 will bring, and even though it's the new year, I'm still looking back — on what I adopted in 2008. I converted to smartphones and the iPhone (two versions in two years) pre-'08, but this year I bought my first flat screen HDTV and a console for fun (the Wii) and a console for fun and Blu-ray (Playstation 3). As TV faces the digital conversion, I saw a lot of people go big with this and get their first high def TVs. I saw (sometimes with my prodding) many of my friends and family became iPhone lovers for the first time. I saw switches from PCs to Macs and vice versa. I love John Lennon and what he stood for; I love OLPCs and what they stand for. Combining them in an OLPC commercial is not a completely misguided move, but the execution is a bit off. If it's not the impersonator doing a cheesy Lennon accent, then it's the lazy way they connected the man and the movement. Still, thinking of the song "Imagine" will always give me goosebumps. Watch it, and tell me what you think.

What Photo-Sharing Website Do You Use?

With the masses of photos that you and your loved ones will be taking over the holidays, it's inevitable that everyone wants to see them. You might use a website that just displays the images, and you might go with a service that also allows people to download the files so they can print and frame as well. I like to use a combo of MobileMe (to accommodate folks immediately after the event and let them download photos) and Picasa, so I can just have an ongoing shared album. I've also noticed that some people are also resorting to using a social network like Facebook to share their photos. What do you do? Do you stick to one main website, or do you use a combo for your photo-sharing needs?

I've spent many long flights wishing that the screen on my iPod were as big as my TV's. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather watch my own movies on a tiny screen than whatever is playing in the cabin that day, but let's be honest — iPod screens are pretty darn small. So when I saw these Vizuex iWear Glasses ($250) that allow you to watch movies and play games from your iPod and gaming console in 16:9 aspect ratio (it's like watching a 52-inch display from nine feet away) just by connecting the cable to your chosen device and slapping on the glasses, I got a little excited. Does this mean the eye straining days of watching movies on my iPod are over?

T-Mobile's G1 cell phone debuted this year as the first phone to run Google's smartphone OS, Android. Like any dynamic new smartphones, it begged comparison to the iPhone; and like the iPhone, it may be getting its second iteration less than a year after its birth. Rumors are abounding that a "G2" phone may be in the works; additionally, there are whispers that GPS-device maker Garmin might be working on an Android phone as well.I'm excited, as per usual, because though I was impressed by the G1, I want to see more of what Android can do. A teenager who had surgery to remove a brain tumor made news when he also listened to his iPod during the procedure (well, while he was conscious). It reminded me of how I always listen to my iPod when I'm at the dentist; not having to hear the drill as loud saves me from having minor freak-outs. It's not just the sound of my preferred music that I like, either; having something I'm so familiar with is comforting, and a great distraction if I'm enduring something painful or uncomfortable. Most people use their gadgets to pass the time, but this use of an iPod is something I find truly valuable. What about you? In a technology trend that's even more disturbing than my little sister texting at the dinner table, it seems that the hot thing in funerals is to be buried with your cell phone. I know that I have stated rather emphatically how much I love my cell phone (and maybe "swooned over" is truer than "stated"), but taking that vow to the grave — literally — is pretty major.The article goes on to mention that this is not limited to phones — some people have been buried with iPod earbuds in, music playing — which I find kind of touching. There's also the factor that modern devices have much of what we treasure on them, like photos of our loved ones, which seems comforting.But I just can't get the idea of a ringtone emanating from a coffin. . . and a call that will always go to voicemail. And what about the environmental impact of all of these gadgets going to the grave? What do you make of this phenomenon?Source

Giving gag gifts has become somewhat of a tradition in my family, ever since my aunt gave me a box of strawberry Jello on Christmas morning back in '88. So after 20 years of Richard Simmons workout tapes, boxes of Kleenex, and Tucks Medicated pads, I wanted to switch it up a bit.After much searching, I think I found the perfect gift: The Hacked and Frayed Flash Drive. This 2GB flash drive is only 30 bucks, but it will be totally priceless since Auntie will think I gave her a broken cable as a gag, when actually it's a working storage device. It's the best of both worlds — useful, and gag-worthy at the same time! Awesome.

Yesterday some shocking Apple news was announced that had the entire geek-filled blogosphere up in arms; Macworld 2009 would be Apple's very last Macworld. I was seriously stunned when I heard the news, but another Sugar peep summed it up best by saying, "That's like Santa announcing it's his last Christmas." Steve Jobs won't even be delivering the opening keynote this year, it'll be Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, which is going to be very strange, especially if he wears a black mock turtleneck and jeans.Since Steve Jobs, Apple announcements, and big unveilings have played a huge part in my-past-two Macworld experiences, I can't imagine what Macworld will be like without any shiny and new Apple gadgets and Steve Jobs kicking off the week with a big bang. The geek world thrives on rumors and gossip, like a big real-life, dorky version of Gossip Girl. Secret photos, screenshots, and info pretty much always get leaked (which is hardly a bad thing for the company at hand).This year, many rumors turned out to be the real thing (like the rumblings about iPhone 3Gs, MacBooks, and iPods), but the most fun ones are almost always the ones that get debunked. When I saw the following clip on Live With Regis and Kelly, I couldn't help but LOL. Mainly because of Kelly's annoyed reaction, but also because of the "they're just like us" aspect. Even Regis and Kelly get quite the variety of emails sent to their inboxes. I know I've discussed online rants before and how people have a tendency to do things online that they would never do in "the real world," but I'm curious to know if you've gone the distance and said something really mean in an email that you probably wouldn't have said to someone's face. iPig iPod Speaker: Love It or Leave It?

It's unfortunate that I look at the iPig iPod Speaker ($160) and can only think of pig references in movies, like Carrie and Deliverance, because I see him and get a little creeped out (maybe it's the dead black eyes). He is, though, for all intents and purposes, very cute, especially when that purpose is to blast music from your iPod. But for something that's kind of a novelty item (pig-shaped things not being every grown-up's tchotchke dream), my mouth is agape at the $160 price tag. When iPod speakers are now a dime a dozen, I'd hope that this guy at least squeals like a bell. What do you think?

It's true that I sometimes complain about how expensive some iPhone apps can be. Although paying $15 for a language learning app doesn't seem unreasonable, there are tons of other translation apps out there that are much more wallet-friendly that catch my eye. Recently, CNN wondered about the potential of the App Store to become the "Crap Store," with its high number of featured free and 99-cent apps (that may be lacking in quality), while more expensive and useful apps get less promotional love because of their price tag. I'm totally willing to pay a higher price for a good app, but I'll admit that I tend to search the free apps before anything else. Tell me — what is the most you've paid for an app?

I can't help but gravitate toward vintage gadgets (I am the founding member of the Vintage Geek group, you know), so mash-ups of old and new stuff is something I'm totally into. This particular skin from Gelaskin ($15) tugged at my heartstrings, mostly because it reminded me of my first boombox that I carried around with me to sleepovers, my backyard, and even a few times to school (my teachers were not pleased with that last location). I'm kinda digging this skin for my iPhone, but I'm not sure I could handle it taking up permanent residence there. What do you think?
