Are You Buying a Console Now That Prices Have Been Cut?

Hot damn! In the course of a couple weeks, we've seen both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 drop in price significantly, as well as the new, cheaper PS3 Slim option.

I have a ton of friends who previously couldn't stomach the high prices of either console, and either went for a cheaper system (hello, Wii), or decided to wait. And now? The wait is over it seems, as I've heard an echo of many saying that they're now taking the shot since the price cuts were announced.

What about you? Have the price drops convinced you of either the Xbox's or PS3's worthiness?

What Gadget Do You Want to Shrink?

After weeks of rumors, the smaller, sleeker PS3 Slim was revealed at the GamesCom conference in Germany yesterday. The benefit is obvious - the Slim will sure fit much better in your media furniture and both will travel much easier.

Sony's response to a size demand is great; people are always hoping their favorite gadgets came in a smaller size for whatever purposes of convenience - why else do rumors of an iPhone Nano persist? And the netbook market grows every day.

Though I'm OK with the size of my iPhone (I have no Zoolander-like desires for it to be that small), I would like to see an even smaller, clutch-sized Kindle, and in my opinion, any gaming console can always lose a few pounds (so uh, good job, PS3!).

What gadget would you shrink if you could?

Source

Sony Announces PS3 Slim, PSP Minis at GamesCom 2009

Although I'm not in Germany attending the GamesCom 2009, I've been anxiously awaiting the announcements to flow in from the upcoming conferences. First up, and admittedly the one I've been waiting for, is Sony's announcement of a thinner and cheaper PS3.

Launching on Sept. 1, the PS3 Slim will come with a body that's 33 percent smaller, a big 120 GB hard drive, and will set you back just $300 - $100 less than past PS3 price tags. But if you don't mind the current PS3 heft and can't hold off until September to get your hands on a console, you can now purchase an 80 GB PS3 for the same $300 price. Plus, getting your presale on has never been easier, as both Kmart and Sears have listed the PS3 Slim on their websites for presale already.

But that's not all coming out of the Sony camp today in Germany. Get the deets on the new PSP Minis when you read more.

PSP Minis are smaller, downloadable games that are limited to 100 MB in size, specially made for your PSP Go. When the PSP Go launches this Fall, there will be 15 Minis available for you to download and play right from the on-board store - titles like Tetris and Fieldrunners have already been confirmed. Think of Minis as an app for your PSP Go - small, quick, and fun titles that will cost less to download than a full-scale game.

Taylor Swift Joins the Band . . . Band Hero, That Is

If you just can't get enough music games in your life (what, like Rock Band, Guitar Hero and all those DJ games weren't enough?), then make room for Band Hero. Activision's answer to all those other hero games ups the ante by including a motion captured country superstar, complete with three hit songs (along with a few other pop favorites) to rock out to. Taylor Swift makes a cameo in the latest band-centric game to hit the market, and she wasn't just emulated in Band Hero, she was duplicated. Taylor spent hours in a motion capture stage to get her performance just right so you can play along as if you were on stage next to her.

Check out the labor intensive process of capturing Taylor's movements for the game, and look for Band Hero to hit the shelves just in time for the holiday shopping rush this November.

Floral PS3 Decals Make Your Console Feel Pretty

I've already exposed you to the beauty of decorative decals for your Wiis and laptops, so what about that shiny and new PS3 you have sitting in the corner? Kudos if you already have some fancy furniture to stow your consoles in, but what if that glistening black PS3 doesn't exactly go with the relaxing Zen living room look you were going for?

Etsy seller NoveltyGallery is selling these stylish PS3 floral skins, which only cost $19 each and are quite chic if you ask me (not to mention, this Twitter-inspired one!).

And for those of you who are wishing you were PS3 owners right now, don't fret, this seller also offers them for the Xbox 360, the PSP, the DS Lite, the Wii, and for laptops.

View 4 Photos ›

PlayStation 3 Price to Drop by $100 This Summer

I know many people have been eying the PS3 since its launch but haven't gone for it, because for all its greatness - it's a Blu-ray player, a gaming console, a media center (and hopefully will come with Netflix support soon) - it carries a hefty price tag (the 160 GB version goes for $500, and the 80 goes for $400).

But that could all change this Summer when a long-awaited price cut will slash $100 off the system, if industry insiders are correct.

Sources say the cut will come mid-August timed with the release of Madden, and I don't think it could come at a better time. Interest is up since Sony's many E3 announcements, plus the obvious statement: it's about time!

Will you buy a PS3 if the price drops by 100 bucks?

Daily Tech: Japan Sells More PS3s Than Nintendo Wiis

This is surprising news. Sony's PlayStation 3 not only beat out the Xbox 360 in sales last month (in Japan), but it surpassed Nintendo Wii sales as well. - CrunchGear

According to a Giz reader, Steve Wozniak was unfairly eliminated from Dancing With the Stars last week because David Allen Grier completely botched a Lindy Hop dance routine. - Gizmodo

With Ritz Camera closing more than 300 of its 700 stores across the US, liquidation sales started this past Saturday. - Switched

Learn five easy ways to keep your laptop or computer nice and cool. - Unplggd

I've spotted these computer keyboard purses before, but new pink and orange designs? Now that is what I call geek chic. - Popgadget
