International fashion weeks kick off today as New York places host to Spring 2010 collections. Before the designers even put pen to paper, the colours for each season are carefully chosen and here they are! The Pantone colour palette for Spring 2010 falls in to four categories; Dandy Manifesto, Gold Diggers, Bewitchment, and Techno-folk.

Ever since I was a wee one, I've been fascinated with color, to the point where I would study fabric swatches for hours, while my aunts shopped for patterns, notions, and the like. So much of the cosmetics industry is influenced by fashion, so each season, beauty brands look to fashion forecasts, like Pantone, the big guns in the world of color swatches. From trendy nail polish shades (more on that later) to lipstick colors to eye shadow palettes, there's no doubt that we'll see some influence from the runway.

Remember the fab Colorstrology website from Pantone? They've made it into a totally free iPhone App!
Just as easy to use and aesthetically pleasing as the original site (there's reason Pantone is the authority on color), the app tells you what your birthday color is and what it says about you.

Believe it or not we have now passed the shortest day which means Spring is on the horizon. As poor sales throughout the Autumn have forced stores to bring their sales forward we are sure to see Spring items appearing in stores even earlier than usual. Knowing this, it's time to cast our minds back to September when the Spring 2009 shows took place in New York, London, Paris and Milan.

Yesterday, I told you that 2009's color of the year is Mimosa. I love the saturated, yolky hue of Mimosa, and think it would create a bright spot of sunshine in any room. I'm particularly excited about easily adding Mimosa to my home with this Ferm Living Kitchen Towel ($19) from 2Modern.To get you excited about this sunny new hue, I thought I'd round up some other optimistically hued goods in this color.

Perhaps in a move to manufacture optimism, Pantone has named 2009 the year of Mimosa. The hue is definitely bright and sunny.
According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, "The color yellow exemplifies the warmth and nurturing quality of the sun, properties we as humans are naturally drawn to for reassurance.

Graphic designer Tim Fraser Brown created a reproduction of Édouard Manet's "A Bar at the Folies-Bergère" entirely out of old Pantone chips. He painstakingly color matched over 5,000 chips onto a blank canvas over the course of four nights. The result is a bit Impressionism meets Pointillism, taking PMS to a new level of literalism.

Choosing a USB drive should be like shopping for a pair of shoes — you choose the style, size and color and away you go! Unfortunately not too many USB manufacturers give consumers the freedom to be so liberal with their flash drive preferences. But thanks to a company called Pantone, the freedom is all yours with fourteen aluminum thumb drive colors to choose from.

As someone who understands the need to find just the right color, I find both the Pantone Palettes Dinnerware and Pantone Mugs exceptionally fabulous. My personal favorite, Pantone 021C is a vibrant orange that just screams good morning! If orange isn't your thing, then perhaps a muted cup and saucer in four shades of burnt ochre?
