Portable Chic: My Favorite DS Cases

Since Nintendo releases a new DS model every few years or so, I gotta keep mine covered and clean (so I can recycle or donate it later once I upgrade). But really, I just want to add a touch of style to my gaming to show off on the bus, plane, or wherever the need to play strikes. My Favorite Nintendo News From the E3 Keynote

This morning at Nintendo's press conference at E3, Gizmodo followed all of the announcements on their liveblog, and I couldn't help but get excited about three in particular.

The first one is the new multiplayer Super Mario Bros. for the Wii, appropriately titled New Super Mario Bros. The game sadly won't be in 3D, but it will come with fun new powerups (like a propeller suit) and an autozoom feature that will keep all four players on screen while flying. The New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii will be available right in time for Christmas this year.

Nintendo also announced photo functionality on the DSi, where users will be able to take pictures and easily upload them to Facebook.

And last but not least, the next installment in the Wii Fit craze will be called Wii Fit Plus, which will include six new strength and yoga activities as well as 15 new balance games. The best part? There's going to be a facet to the game that will let you feel like you're Super Mario - whoa! This game will make its way to store shelves this Fall.

Wii Sports Sequel, Remote Attachment Coming Soon

If you spent all your spare hours knocking down pins and throwing curve balls when you first cracked open your Wii by going Pro in Wii Sports, then get ready - you're about to go a few rounds with Wii Sports Resort this Summer! Not to be confused with the third party title Summer Sports: Paradise Island, this game is coming straight from Nintendo and will hit the shelves July 26. Announced at last year's E3 conference, Wii Sports Resort will include Summer fun activities like water skiing, playing Frisbee with a Mii-like dog, and sword fighting. Yes, sword fighting - make up for all the times your mom told you not to play with sticks in the house!

Adding to the fun is the new Wii remote attachment that makes your movements even more realistic. Called Wii MotionPlus, this sensor attaches to the bottom of your remote and catches slight movements and enhances your playing experience. Sold together, Wii Summer Sports and Wii MotionPlus will set you back $50, but if you only want more accuracy for your favorite games (this will come in especially handy for your golf swing), Wii MotionPlus will cost just $20.

Playing Around With the DSi: Now With Video!

But now that the DSi Shop is open for business, I can give you the full low down on the newest portable console to hit the market.

Make Your DSi's Camera More Effective With a Flash

Although the DSi isn't available in stores yet, the accessories are already rolling in. Sure there are some cases, some "starter kits" coming with extra accessories, but what about something that actually improves your DSi?

Check out this Dreamgear 3-in-1 Flash Cover- not only does it protect your brand new DSi from scratches and scrapes, but it also covers your outside lens when not in use (to prevent damage), and provides a bright flash for the camera.

This way, you can take pics in a less than well-lit room, and maybe even get a few good shots at night. And really, at $14 dollars, you really can't go wrong here.

Special Delivery: An Early Look at the Nintendo DSi

As you know, I've been anxiously waiting for the arrival of the Nintendo DSi (which comes out this Sunday), but lo and behold, I got a special delivery in the office yesterday: a Nintendo DSi cake and the DSi itself! After taking in the craftsmanship of the cake, I dove into the DSi to take a few first impressions.

Right off the top? The DSi's looks haven't changed much from its predecessor - it is a bit lighter, but definitely feels more rugged with its matte finish. As expected, the dual screens have a richer color, and the two cameras (one facing you and one facing outward) take some pretty impressive photos for being just 0.3-megapixels. Actually, some of the funnest features of the camera come with the distortion and customization tools you can play around with, like turning your face into a kaleidoscope. It reminds me a lot of Photo Booth that comes standard with a Mac, and who knows how many hours I've spent playing around with that!

Although I wasn't able to test out the DSi Shop or buy any games with my 1000 free Shop points (it goes live April 5), I had no problem picking up Sugar HQ's WiFi signal, which is a good sign for online play and downloading. I'm kinda in love with the DSi's music feature. Not only does it play back your own music (which almost makes the DSi the only portable entertainment system you'll need), but you can record short sound clips of your own as well. And just like the camera, you can distort the clips - run them backwards, forwards, and even drag your stylus to change the tone.

Overall, the DSi brings the fun of the DS Lite, but with more bells, whistles, and things to play around with when you aren't involved in a game. Stay tuned for a full review of the DSi next week when I can open up the DSi Shop, and really take this baby for a test drive!
