Glitzy Super Mario Bros. Fashion Collection

Any articles of Super Mario Bros. apparel I've seen before usually consist of hand-knitted creations like the 1Up Mushroom or the beautiful Princess Peach scarves. Well feast your eyes on this glamorous Super Mario Bros. eveningwear line from Craftster member montyfull. From an actual sequined Mario dress to a bob-omb and mushroom dress, she covered all of the basics and then some.

Why the gamer-themed dresses? She says:

"So I'm a fashion major. Graduated in 2007, and just got around to uploading pics of my stuff! I'm an avid gamer for life. Shooters, RPGs, PC, Nintendo, Xbox . . . I'll play anything if I can afford it. I also don't like to take myself too seriously, so I decided that my senior collection was going to be Mario eveningwear."

Baby Miittens: Little Ball Hands Not So Freakish After All

Danger, childless geeks! Viewing this baby gnawing on her Knitted Miittens may make you want to have children. Or at least coo at this tiny baby's face.

Available as a pattern on Knitty, the Miittens (which are padded on the inside for wittle baby hands) have caused me to stop thinking those ball-hands that Wii avatars have are weird. No, they are now, and forever will be, adorable.

With this and the new website Kniitting, I have but one thought: Knitters, mobilize.

Wiimote + Nunchuk = Knitting Needles?!

I've seen things knitted for the Wii, but I had never actually considered using the Wii to knit, yet that's what an artist and a scientist set out to do on Kniiting.

Using the Wiimote and nunchuk as "needles", Kniitting tracks hand motions of the actual knitting, making up code as it goes along. It looks like Kniitting will eventually have a Wii game, so you can knit, game, and make awesome geek crafts all at once.

For now, browse game play, the possible accessories you could make, and then cross your fingers for it to become a reality. My hope is that I'll actually learn to knit while playing my Wii!

On we go with the Best of 2008 series! Being a geek and being crafty seem to go hand in hand; both take ingenuity. Even if you're a big-time techie but can't sew, glue, or cook to save your life, everyone still appreciates a rad geeky DIY project.

I've narrowed it down to my fave projects: the Mario Star Nano Case, my Halloween Rick-Roll costume, the papercraft phenomena of Cubeecrafts, frosted Tetris brownies, the embroidered motherboard dish towel, and lastly, the embroidered text message.

Which one was your fave?

Motherboard Dish Towel: Love It or Leave It?

My geek crafts have been put to shame, people: Check out this embroidered motherboard dish towel a crafty blogger created. Even though there are many photos and details of how it's done, I can't even look at it without my jaw dropping open.

The only thing I don't love about this dish towel is that it's not yet being produced. Open up an Etsy shop, please! Of course, do you think if you hung this dish towel in your kitchen, people would get what it was? Would it matter to you? Discuss.

Crafty Text Goes Where No Other Text Has Gone Before

Embroidered birth announcements - check, embroidered flowers - check, embroidered text messages? What the. . . ?! Seeing this crafty embroidered text message is making me turn back the clock, oh say twenty years, to a time when SMS didn't exist and messages like this were exchanged in conversation over the phone. Can you imagine if people talked in text? So short, but yet to the point, which I must admit, is kinda refreshing.

Geek Tip: How to Make a Monitor Cozy

Martha Stewart has some directions for how to make a monitor cozy from an old issue of Blueprint, which reminded me of the monitor cozies I created for my boyfriend's two monitors last year. Lest you get discouraged by how nice and fancy Martha's version is, just check out the ones I made on my own, with just a bit of quick measuring and side-seam sewing. I also added a lining as well as a decorative fabric, since, like Martha says, it adds a little bit of color to the room.

Of course, hers are made much more carefully, where I'm more of a sew-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of gal. For instance, she adds gussets, and I don't even know what a gusset is.

Holy TV Character Cubeecrafts, Batman!

I thought I geeked out when I saw (and devoted much time to making) Mario Cubeecrafts, but now they're really trying to kill me with the cute - check out these new papercrafts of classic TV characters! Pictured here from left to right, we have Pamela Anderson in Baywatch, Earl Hickey from My Name is Earl, and Dr. Jack Shepard from one of my all-time fave TV shows, Lost.

If you've never done a cubeecraft before, just download the template, and get ready to cut out teeny details in the name of geek craft. It's totally worth it when you have your adorable desk accessory to show off to your non-crafty coworkers!

Cool PaperCraft Fun: Goobeesta

I know how you all love papercrafts, so when I found these super-cute, ice cream-loving guys while surfing the Internets, I had to pass them along to you. Free to download, these "Fold and Fun" characters are pretty easy to put together, as I did all three over the weekend.

Goobeesta has even provided a blank cutout for you to design your own paper monster! Check it out here - get creative then upload pics of your custom design in the comments for the rest of us to see! I bet you guys can come up with some awesome little monsters, and I'll even round up all your hard work in a gallery next week!

Even if you're not crafty enough to design and print your own fabric, I bet you can appreciate the fact that others can - especially if you chill on geeksugar because I love crafty geek stuff!

CraftStylish is a new site where not only can you check out the creative handmade goods from other crafters, but you are also encouraged to share yours.

It's a fun, low-pressure place to say "look what I did!" with your hands or sewing machine and get fun, encouraging feedback from other appreciative users. CraftStylish has a - dare I say it? - social network vibe - but without the former classmate chitchat vibe.
