We each develop a unique saving style over the years, which is why it's so important to divulge your winning tactics with friends. You never know how far your little tip will go for the next gal. Spectra recently shared an incredibly smart tip in the comments of my 5 Savvy Ways to Use Your Phone's Calculator and I just had to pass it on. She says:

I use my phone calculator to figure out my gas mileage every time I fill up. I reset the trip odometer when I fill up and I just divide that number by the amount of gas I put in to see if I got decent mileage on that certain tank of gas. I know, it's kind of anal, but it's just something I do.

This past week was a busy one with cell phone chatter, as we learned about three new phones that will be making their way to store shelves very soon. For instance, the new and improved BlackBerry Storm2 has just gone on sale in Verizon stores across the US and will cost $180 on a two-year contract after a $100 mail-in rebate. Meanwhile, the fashionable Palm Pixi, which costs $99, will be coming to Sprint stores on Nov. 15. And last but not least, the beautiful BlackBerry Bold 9700, which doesn't have a release date just yet, but is rumored to be hitting T-Mobile and AT&T networks this November. With all this talk about smartphones, I'm interested in knowing whether or not one of these handsets has made it to your wish list or if there's one in particular you can't wait to see in person? If so, which one?

I read a story last week about the small (and shrinking) population of US residents that don't have a cell phone - which included my fellow blogger and friend, Gregory Han, from Unplggd. Although a portion of this group do not have the means to own one, a majority of this population has made a conscious decision to ditch the phone by their own accord. It reminded me of a friend that recently gave up his cell along with his Facebook and Twitter accounts in an attempt to clear his mind and simplify his life.

Although some folks see technology as an extra added complication to an already busy daily grind, I use tech to my advantage, and it actually helps streamline my day. From using my iPhone apps to help me navigate the roads, to using 3G and wireless technology to log in and get work done from anywhere. For me, tech allows me to go more places, and stay in touch with family and friends I wouldn't otherwise talk to on a regular basis. This got me wondering - would you give up and live without your tech on a permanent basis?

Local TV stations may soon have the ability to broadcast live TV straight to your cell phone. Unlike YouTube, the service won't be on-demand. Instead, you'll be able to tune into live local television on your phone while stations will be able to offer both free and paid channels. Obviously, the technology won't work on existing mobile phones, but LG, Samsung, and Dell have already released prototype devices. And it's about time - this technology is already a huge hit in Japan!

With services like DVR and TV on-demand changing, this technology might breathe new life into broadcast TV. Would you buy a new gadget and use this service?

Geeking Out in Japan: A Retrospective

My two weeks in Japan went by in a flash, but I have the memories to last a lifetime - and now I'm sharing them with you! My trip through the "Electric City" taught me a lot about gadgets in the land of the rising sun, and attending the Tokyo Game Show was one of the highlights of my trip. And even though I didn't get to see the massive Gundam statue in all its glory, I did get to check out the head at TGS. Trust me, this thing is huge!
