Geek Out: Do You Care About the Quality of Your Phone's Pics?

A friend of mine recently upgraded from a BlackBerry Pearl to a BlackBerry Curve and sent me an "OMG! I can't believe it!" email after playing with the Curve 8900's camera. There's no denying the appeal of the tiny Pearl - not only is it now discounted with many carriers, but it's also functional, reliable, and has some great features. But its 1.3MP (or 2MP) camera doesn't hold a candle to the Curve's 3.2 MP shooter. The megapixel difference makes this like comparing apples to oranges, but boy, what a difference those pixels make.
With the popularity of mobile uploads on sites like Facebook, applications like twitpic, fancy iPhone camera apps and the ability to mobile blog, I worry the stakes and expectations for photos taken on cell phones are teetering on too high. Do you care? Or are cell phone pics just about instant gratification and capturing ridiculous moments?

BlackBerry Combo Pack Includes a Charging Dock and Cases

Little did I know, but the charging USB port on BlackBerrys has been known to malfunction because the gold pins pop out of the USB track. Unfortunately, PetSugar had this happen to her and resorted to two batteries which she charged at work, so she could have a juiced up Pearl during evenings and weekends. PetSugar didn't want to shell out for a new handset or pay hefty fees to have it repaired, so we put our heads together to come up with a solution. Yes, BlackBerry makes its very own charging dock called the Charging Pod.

With the BlackBerry Pearl Charging Pod ($9 - see below for images) and the Charging Pod for various Curve handhelds ($8), you can juice up your BlackBerry by connecting the charging cord to the dock and conveniently see the screen of your BlackBerry as it stands up in the Pod.

And for only $12.69, BlackBerry has this sweet deal where you get three silicone cases in the colors shown and a charging dock for only $12.69. Even though my charger works just fine, I kind of like the idea of sitting my BlackBerry in a dock at the end of the day!

McG Calls Christian Bale on His Blackberry Pearl

As I said on Twitter over the weekend, there was a party going on at Wondercon, and it was called the Terminator: Salvation panel! I witnessed firsthand how quickly McG can get a crowd of geeks excited for a killer robot flick, and he started the hour off with a call to his buddy Christian Bale, who unfortunately was not at the event on Saturday. Whipping out his Blackberry Pearl, we all got a chance to chime in on the message left on Christian's home voicemail, and the director even slipped in a little jab referencing the stars' -ahem- freakout on set. Pick Up a Pearl For $20 From Verizon

It's not everyday you see prices like this - especially for a BlackBerry - so I had to share the news in case you've been holding out for one for awhile. Verizon is now offering the pink and silver BlackBerry Pearl 8130 for $19.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate. Yes, you'll still need to be locked into a two-year contract, but for this fantastic price, I doubt you'll have many regrets. I don't think I've ever spotted a BlackBerry this cheap - actually, not true - I came across a $0 Pearl deal in Ontario, Canada, over the holidays. Not too shabby of a way to start 2009 if you ask me!

T-Mobile Adds Freshly Painted Pearls to Its Collection

If you head on over to a T-Mobile store today, you'll be able to feast your eyes on the new BlackBerry Pearl 8120 colors, which include black emerald, indigo, and frost. You can also still pick up the original titanium design, although I'm sure people will be scooping up the new hues. Hello? Frost for Winter - me loves that! The WiFi enabled phones will cost $150 with a two-year contract with T-Mobile.

Fab Flash: Nina Garcia for Blackberry

Our beloved Nina Garcia can add cell phone spokesperson to her laundry list of career accomplishments. Seriously, what doesn't this woman do? She's the fashion director at ELLE, she's a judge on Project Runway, she written a style guide, heck she's even answered our Fab questions. Last night she attended the Blackberry Pearl Smartphone launch.
The phone is a pink version of the Blackberry Pearl, and it's one that Nina Garcia is very passionate about. She says she never goes without her Blackberry, especially during photoshoots and the ever-so-stressful fashion week. Like Nina, there are definitely two things I bring to fashion week with me: my fabulous wardrobe and my Blackberry.

Celebs Step Out in Style For the Pink BlackBerry Pearl

The stars were out last night in NYC to show their love for the new and improved pastel pink BlackBerry Pearl 8130. Paris has sure had a gadget-filled month, although I'm sure this phone tops her cell phone favorites list. So many great features are wrapped up in this adorable handheld smartphone. With web browsing, a 2-megapixel camera, a media player with microSD memory support, a QWERTY keyboard, and VZ Navigator for spoken turn–by–turn directions, you can't help but get excited about this fashionably functional phone . . . Red or Pink BlackBerry Pearl: Love or Leave?

Talk about Sprint and Verizon going head-to-head! According to RIMarkable, a red Sprint BlackBerry Pearl 8130 has been spotted on sale from Amazon. Unlike Sprint, Verizon has decided to go pink with their Pearl. The Boy Genius Report says that this pink model is now being showcased on Verizon's "Next" page and is rumored to become available at the end of this month. Are you digging either one?
