If I had my druthers, I probably wouldn't choose to live in a studio. But if I had to, I cannot imagine a more perfect space than this studio loft in Lägenhet, Stockholm (which is for sale). With tall ceilings, a bed and extra storage are tucked up high, making for a true living room.

A former slaughterhouse in Ulricehamn, Sweden, was transformed into this fabulous coveted crib. Outfitted with furniture and accessories from around the world, the space feels much more metropolitan than you'd expect from a rural Swedish home. An extensive collection of artwork is mixed with both vintage and modern furniture.

Stockholm's Hotel J is a super chic chalet influenced by the fine craftsmanship of yachting with a distinct Scandinavian twist. Bright and airy, the interiors' chairs and sofas are upholstered in thick white wrinkly cotton and also feature clean-lined contemporary light oak furniture. The hotel has a gorgeous view of the Stockholm harbor, and guests can rent sailboats or taking sailing lessons.

With a palette that is mostly black and white, the accents of color in this Stockholm home really pop. Beyond that, Dutch decorator André Schievink courageously mixed minimalism with kitsch, antiques with Ikea, in a way that makes each piece stand out. For instance, in the dining room an ancient dining table is surrounded by plastic Verner Panton S Chairs, and next door a slick modern table lamp sits curiously on a period grand piano.

I came across a Swedish study out earlier this week that is just too good to pass up. Get this: a significant number of young men in Sweden consider contracting an STD to be an affirmation of manhood, rather than a serious health issue.
None of the young women in the study (not surprisingly) considered an STD diagnosis as a sign of their "success with the boys."

"We want Pop to grow up more freely and avoid being forced into a specific gender mold from the outset. It's cruel to bring a child into the world with a blue or pink stamp on their forehead."
The 24-year-old mother of a Swedish 2-year-old named "Pop" explains why she won't reveal whether her child is a boy or a girl.

The better a woman's love life, the less stress she feels at work. For men, it's not as simple. A new study out of Sweden revealed that men who say they're in good or bad relationships have less stress at work than those in "average" relationships.

When I traveled to Sweden, I was stunned by all the gorgeous blondes (and blonds), but I was especially impressed with the country's propensity for good design. Not only were design shops ubiquitous, but even simple, everyday items seemed to have smart aesthetics. Though stylish as well, I'm not referring to traditional folkloric design — or Ikea.

Next time you jet over Stockholm, Sweden you may consider spending the night at Jumbo Hostel, an old Pan Am jumbo jet that has been converted into a hostel. Economy class beds go for $40 a night. For that price you get to share a room, flat screen TV, and luggage compartment with two other friendly flyers sleepers.
