Travel season is upon us, and I'll be the first to say I have champagne taste, but am confined to a beer-sized budget. Finding deals on hotels and flights has never been so important, especially with gas prices and travel costs through the roof! So lately, Priceline's "Name Your Price" feature (you know the commercials — William Shatner is the "Priceline Negotiator"?) has been looking more and more attractive, but I've heard a story or two about users who have been less than thrilled with their room once they've arrived.

Vacations may be fun, but they don't come cheaply. Thankfully, there are a handful of tricks that enable us to explore the globe economically. The announcement that Orbitz will waive fees on flights booked through May is great news for travelers looking to cut costs on travel this Spring. However, Orbitz isn't the only budget travel site using this type of promotion to get your business; the no-booking-fee promo mirrors the one available on Expedia.

How do you get a $40,000 wedding for $3,000? If you're Jennifer Mae Fletke and Chris Watters, you barter, borrow, and bargain your way there. The couple traded the videotaping and editing services of their production company for other vendors to sign on for their wedding day.

Local vacations are a great option if you want to get away from home and don't want to pay for pricey airfare. Holiday weekends are always more expensive than regular ones, but an extra day off makes for an ideal time to get away.
When it was decided that some fresh non-city air would be necessary over the upcoming 4th of July weekend my destination was a no-brainer, but the problem of a two-night minimum stay at most hotels during wine country's high season was more of an issue.

For my mom's birthday earlier this week, I Pricelined the Hyatt Regency in Chicago for the delightfully reasonable price of $65. Sure, the hotel decor was on the bland side, and we had to dodge tipsy conventioneers on the way to the elevators, but when you're paying so little, who can complain, really?
Of note: The bathroom shampoo, body wash, and soap.
