It's a known fact that I spend more time online than almost anything else (other than sleeping I suppose), so it's only natural that my feeble attempts at keeping houseplants alive rarely succeed, and they die within a month. The only plant I've been able to keep alive for longer is my iGrobot, and that's because it sits on my desk at work, reminding me to water it! Sad, right?

You may (or may not know) that some plants can be toxic to pets if they get the urge to munch the flowers and plants you keep around the house and garden. Even some of the most common flowers like Baby's Breath, which come in many arrangements, can be unassuming but totally harmful to your pets if ingested. Thankfully, the ASPCA has a complete list of plants that are a-ok and safe for plant-snacking pets, even if it wears down your patience!

If you haven't noticed I have a special place in my heart for whimsy, particularly when it comes to plants. I found these guys today while I was trolling around the web (seriously, can one do anything besides troll when they're on the internet?) and they're soo soo cute. Called Plant-Me Pets, these little guys are made of natural latex rubber and their eyes are made from seeds.

It's no secret that pets like to go where they're unwelcome. Digging up soil is often a favorite activity of theirs. Sometimes they just like to make a mess, and in other cases, the scent or texture of your plant's leaves attracts them.

There are many steps to pet proofing your home and, for the first in this series, we'll eliminate poisonous plants. Keep animals safe and view every item placed in pet's reach as something he or she may try to take a nibble on. Different types pose different threats so stay on top of them by checking each one in your house against the ASPCA's toxic plant list.

People, poop is on the menu. (Yuck.) While I consider myself to be pretty brushed up on weird mammals and even dogs feeding on feces, admittedly, I'm less familiar with green things. Still, I couldn't resist sharing this interesting find with you.

Canine common sense tells you to just say no to cocoa mulch, since cocoa equals chocolate, which equals poison to pets. But what about those of you eco-conscious consumers who compost on a daily basis? As it turns out, then using that waste to grow a garden can be very dangerous to pets!

Unless you are a hoarder, working amid clutter — whether at home or in the office — can be distracting. In an effort to get organized for 2010, I've started a handy Savvy Resolutions series, offering up tips for creating a home work space and organizing our papers and files. I recently learned that 38 percent of SavvySugar readers work in a cubicle, while 62 percent either work in a shared workspace or their own office.
