Eclipse's Jackson Rathbone Rocks a Lotus in Vancouver

The filming of Eclipse is well under way in Vancouver, and the cast has their tech to keep them warm up north - can you guess who's sporting what? Of course, we can't expect everyone to fall in line and carry an iPhone or BlackBerry, which is why I'm happy to see some diversity in Jackson Rathbone's cell of choice - a black LG Lotus.

Coming with a QWERTY keyboard, 2 megapixel camera, and a music and video player, Jackson has everything he needs to keep busy on set between takes. Plus, let's face it - there's just something about a rebel who goes against the grain. Am I right?

Maybe if we're really lucky, we'll get to see if Robert Pattinson took our advice and upgraded his old-school cell he was carrying a few months ago. We hear he has an iPhone as well, so maybe it will replace his flip phone.

LG Teams Up With BART to Encourage Cell Phone Recycling

This past weekend as I exited the Embarcadero train station here in San Francisco, I noticed this ginormous cell phone recycling station. Upon further inspection (and research), I realized that LG has put up these Ecomobilize cell phone recycling bins in BART stations across the Bay Area to help combat the estimated 130 cell phones that will end up in US landfills this year.

I've already provided some simple ways to go green, but LG is making it really easy with their ecoMobilization movement because you can either drop off your phone, chargers, or accessories at one of these boxes, or text the word ECO to 57895 and reply to the text with your mailing addy. This way, a prepaid package will be delivered to your house so you can mail it away yourself and recycle your phone no matter where you live! Although I am hoping that the Ecomobilize bins pop up in subway stations across the country.

Ask a Geek Girl: I Need a Basic Cell Phone With Long Battery Life

Dear geeksugar,

I'm looking for a functional cell phone without the major bells and whistles. I don't need to be able to check my Facebook status or figure out my coordinates (I have a laptop and GPS for all that!).

All I require is that it have an incredibly long battery life and the ability to text message. I use Verizon and have been following your great Gossip Girl phone trends, but it's hard to tell which phone is right for me. Any suggestions? Thanks for your guidance! - A long time reader

As you already know, Gossip Girl regularly features stylish LG phones from Verizon. The good news is that LG makes amazing cell phones, the bad news is that they are usually phones that are not only chic but packed with many features - features you don't necessarily need or want.

What I do recommend is checking out Verizon's LG VX8360. What I like about it is the fact that it offers text, picture, video and voice messaging, has a 1.3-megapixel camera and camcorder and both external and internal LCD color screens. And best of all, it's a handset that offers exceptional battery life. Usage time is up to 316 minutes and standby time is up to 641 hours. Compared to the LG Dare smartphone, which only gets up to 280 minutes talk time and up to 360 hours on standby, the LG VX8360 is significantly better.

This phone will only cost $50 if you purchase it online through Verizon and sign up for a 2-year contract.

Even though Gossip Girl may have an Apple aversion, they don't shy away from featuring LG products (as long as they're carried by sponsor Verizon, of course). Nearly every character has carried a cell phone from the South Korean maker, and they're often fitting on the stylish show, considering the rainbow of colors many of the phones come in - perfect for matching to their outfits! Penelope's Blue Cell Phone on Gossip Girl: It's Electric

On Gossip Girl, no character is too small - especially when it only takes but one camera phone pic to bring down entire friendships, romances, and social constructs. This week's episode featured the devious Penelope, formerly one of Blair's minions, but a rabble-rouser in her own right of late.

But her evilness isn't what I focused on - it was that electric blue cell phone she whipped out to peep Gossip Girl's post about Vanessa and Nate making out. It's an LG Chocolate 3 (the same one that Dan has, in black); they call it light blue, I call it electric; either way, it's a pretty snazzy phone if you're not into smartphones yet.

A music player, video capture, and 2.0-megapixel camera (perfect for snapping incriminating candids), all for $80 after rebates. Not that Penelope needs the deal. Sidenote: Do you think she would have the same phone if Verizon weren't sponsoring Gossip Girl?
