In yet another self-promotion quest, Comedy Central's faux newsman Steven Colbert launched a 'Google Bombing' campaign last week in an effort to make ColbertNation.com the top search result on Google for "greatest living American."
He was successful. He did however, have the help of some strategists, who after visiting his show gave a few pointers.

Stephen Colbert always has his eye out for naming contests. He's managed to get his name on an ice cream flavor, a Hungarian bridge, and a bald eagle. Thanks to his fans' enthusiasm for write-in campaigns, he might get a room in the International Space Station!

- Broadcasting from Iraq last night, Stephen Colbert became the first non-news TV show to be taped and transmitted to the US from a combat zone. In addition to John McCain, Barack Obama made an appearance via satellite to order a military haircut for Stephen. — Colbert Nation

Though indeed there is real teacher news today, including one Detroit-area educator who was found guilty of having sex with a former 15-year-old student — if that's the alternative, I prefer a little (Peabody-winning!) Colbert-ized report of one magical moment in the education of our nation's youth, thank you all the same. This real story, done up in all it's Report glory — well you won't believe your eyes.
This substitute teacher was somehow fired in connection with performing a magic trick, and bringing filthy wizardry and sorcery to the classroom by making a toothpick disappear.

Today most counties in California, the nation's most populous state, will begin their first full day of issuing marriage licenses to committed couples, regardless their gender combination. San Francisco kicked things off last night at 5:00 p.m., with Mayor Gavin Newsom marrying Phyllis Lyon, 87 and Del Martin, 84, who have been in love for over 50 years.
