From Hitchcock films to Britney songs, cell phone names are starting to sound like pop culture things — and now I'm taking it old school: the '80s. Tune your brain into old shows from the tube and see if you can figure out which is an '80s TV show and which is the name of a cell phone.

I like my gadgets how I like my gum: fresh and with no bite marks. Seriously, though, it's time for another quiz on the sharp, young cell phone names that have a tendency to sound like something else altogether.
Last time it was Britney Spears songs, and this time, it's the all-American favorite: chewing gum!

Since naming cell phones became popular, they've become more familiar, but also tread girlier (like ladies' razors), snappier (like energy drinks), and even daring (like Hitchcock films).
They've even become quite provocative; take my latest quiz and see if you can identify which name is that of a cell phone or a Britney Spears tune.

The trend of naming cell phones something catchy is pretty great — it's so much easier than remembering some crazy combination of letters and numbers.
However, sometimes the cell phone companies get a little out of hand with the clever names, and the nom de plumes don't exactly sound like tech marvels (as is the case with Samsung's toiletry-sounding names and LG's Hitchcockian names).
Today's source of confusion is Samsung again — can you guess which of these are cell phones, and which are the names of energy drinks?

It's not just LG that's out of control with the fancy names; their buddy Samsung is in on the cutesy single names too! No more numbers to name cell phones, people; you need a catchy name to compete in this market.
What are Samsung's names coming dangerously close to?

When I did my last quiz, Cell Phone or Perfume Name?, I think we both noted that the primary offender with their one-word, splashy names is LG.
The electronics company uses these names for their cell phones and other tech products to titillate and appeal to customers. You know who else did that?

As the Gadgettes pointed out in their NPR interview this week, manufacturers market to ladies one way, by giving their products flashy and recognizable (therefore, girly?) names like "Chocolate" or "enV" instead of something like VX12345.
I feel like this has gotten a little out of control, and now there exist some phones whose names sound more like a cologne you would spritz on your wrist, rather than put up to your ear. Take my quiz and tell me which is the name of a cell phone model, and which is the name of a perfume!
