Nicknamed CrackBerry for its similarity to the dangerous drug, those of us with the affliction were affected almost as badly as addicts to its namesake (though we kept our looks). Well wouldn't you know. President-elect Barack Obama was snapped this past weekend in Hawaii sporting not only his beloved BlackBerry 8830 World Edition Smartphone, but more shockingly, it was in a belt holster!

Considering a majority of you don't wear a cell on your belt — and let's be honest, we can't all be as stylin' as David Beckham — I'm surprised the trend-setting Obama is a holster kinda guy. But then again, he was our favorite BlackBerry obsessed cell phone celeb of 2008, and it's still up in the air whether he'll be able to keep it, so for now, we can't blame the guy for keeping the gadget goods glued to his side.

Obama to Give Up His BlackBerry, Email to Soon Follow

Sad news for President-elect Barack Obama. The BlackBerry-addict who is often photographed with his trusty Curve on his belt and is always checking his BB while en route, will soon be bidding his favorite gadget farewell due to email security concerns. According to The New York Times, Obama has already started slowing down communication to friends and family from his personal email account; even though he hopes to be the first American president to have a laptop on his desk in the Oval Office.

This isn't the first time a new president has had to say good-bye to personal email accounts. Before George W. Bush was inaugurated, he had to send this message, from his personal email address G94B@aol.com, to his close contacts:

Since I do not want my private conversations looked at by those out to embarrass, the only course of action is not to correspond in cyberspace. This saddens me. I have enjoyed conversing with each of you.

As for Obama, it's still being decided whether or not he can keep using email, which is sad news in itself, but the hardest part has got to be seeing his BlackBerry go bye-bye. Hey, I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

What I'm talking about is CPESP — Cell Phone Extrasensory Perception — a faculty that afflicts millions of Americans who are addicted to their mobile phones. I have a serious case of CPESP. It's so bad that my phone can be in another room of my house, on the vibrate ring tone setting, and I can hear it.

Another person who has this sixth cell phone sense? The View's Joy Behar. During a recent appearance on Larry King Live, she admitted that when her BlackBerry rings, "It's like a child crying in the night." I feel your pain Joy, and I know exactly what you mean.

Best Buy to Get Stocked With BB Pearl Flips and the G1

There's not only one new handset rumored to be making its way to Best Buy on October 26, but two! The festive red BlackBerry 8200 Pearl Flip will be available to purchase on the 26, and the sold out HTC G1 will be arriving in Best Buy stores on the 26, but will make its big retail debut on November 16.

It is also rumored that you'll be able to pick up an unlocked Palm Treo Pro on October 26 as well.

If all these rumors are true, talk about a big day for Best Buy. Since Best Buy is now selling the

This year at at CES, Slingmedia was supposed to be unveiling their software running on BlackBerry Pearls. That didn't exactly happen, and I haven't heard boo about it since, so I'm a tad skeptical if this new partnership between TiVo and RIM will come to fruition or fizzle like the rest of the "TV on BlackBerry" initiatives.

Supposedly, although details are limited, BlackBerry Smartphones will get customized TiVo services on them. This will enable cell phone users to watch their scheduled television recordings on the go. Now let's just keep our fingers crossed for this one!

The BB Curve and Pearl Get Decked Out With New Colors

I was practically speechless when I found out that Rogers (in Canada) got the BlackBerry Curve in pink before anyone else. But thankfully our time has come, and the pink Curve will be coming to the Verizon network! It is said to be going on sale this Friday, and will cost around $100 after rebate and with a two-year contract.

And not only that, but product pics of T-Mobile's freshly painted BlackBerry Pearl in tahitian green, indigo, and light blue have been leaked! I love a good color coating every now and then.

Even if I am constantly seeing celebrities who carry their laptops without a bag, I do love the trend of celebs and their BlackBerry gels! Cameron Diaz and Jessica Biel had the same orange gel, while Britney rocked a light blue gel, and now we have edgy-fabulous Rihanna showing off a pretty-in-pink gel!

Since she matched the gel to her outfit that day, I wonder if she has many more that she rotates in and out to match her ensemble. I am building up my own mini-arsenal of colorful gels, and I may have to hit up a pink one just like Rihanna's that I found on Amazon, for under 10 bucks!

A few of my car driving pals were overjoyed at the announcement that 6,000 of San Francisco's 24,000 metered parking spaces will be equipped with wireless sensors that alert you via mobile and street signs, when a parking space has opened up, hopefully ending that merry-go-round game we all play while trying to park on the city streets. By accessing a map on your mobile device, or checking out digital maps on special street signs, you can cruise right over to an open spot nearby, and hopefully use less gas in the process. Currently in its "beta" phase, it sounds like an awesome idea to relieve some road rage. . . in theory. Since I don't own a car, I don't feel the pain that trying to find parking can bring on a regular basis, and it kinda sounds like trouble to me. We're in the homestretch now of our Sex and the City Movie premiere, and I can honestly say, Christmas came early this year! We've already jogged our memories on tech from past seasons, and last week we learned about some of the gadget gear from the movie! So Samantha has an iPhone, Louise (Carrie's assistant, played by Jennifer Hudson) uses a Sidekick, and Carrie likes to mix it up between cell phones and pay phones.

Lisa Loeb is not only a talented singer, songwriter and actress (she has a new album coming out on Tuesday), but she's much more tech savvy then I would have ever imagined — BlackBerrys and MacBooks and iPods, oh my! AOL's Switched recently chatted with her about all her tech habits — including her favorite websites (Facebook made the list), her love for her MacBook Pro and BlackBerry Curve, and how she is a big fan of puzzles like the Rubik's cube! Here are some of the highlights from the interview:

On what cell she is using now and why she loves it or hates it: "I use the BlackBerry Curve. I love that I can e-mail, take photos, send and receive e-mail, type on real buttons, not a virtual keypad. I love that it's sleek. I especially love taking photos with it, but I hate that it's difficult to get the photos onto my MacBook Pro."

Discussing whether or not she'll get an iPhone: "Not yet. I'm waiting on a flash, on a keypad that I can turn sideways, and to come to terms with the virtual keyboard."

And finally, if she is a Mac or PC kinda gal: "I use a Mac mainly because it's really user-friendly. Also, ever since I was a kid I've used an Apple. Ross Perot provided our school with Apple II computers when they came out. We used to program them and play Lemonade."

This BlackBerry 9000 device is said to be available this Summer on AT&T 3G with T-Mobile 3G to follow. With built-in GPS capabilities, BlackBerry Maps, interchangeable color back plates (yay!), five hours of talk time, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and powerful speakers, the "Bold" is certainly living up to its name! In the May issue of Elle, Madonna discusses life, love, and her close relationship with her beloved BlackBerry! How close you ask? The Queen of Pop admits that her and her husband Guy Ritchie love their BlackBerry's so much that they to sleep with them under their pillows!

She says: "It’s not unromantic. It’s practical. I’m sure loads of couples have their BlackBerry's in bed with them. I have to sleep with my BlackBerry because I often wake up in the middle of the night and remember that I’ve forgotten something, so I jump up and make notes." And adds "Guy’s always waiting for me to come to bed, so he plays Brick Breaker on his BlackBerry until I’m ready."

So cute! Considering she's so tech obsessed — it's no wonder her new album Hard Candy will be hitting cell phones before stores!

According to DongA, when former U.S. President Bill Clinton was asked what his wife's "must have" gadget was, he said her BlackBerry. Meanwhile, the first thing Obama does when he gets off a plane, or is en route somewhere, is check his e-mail on his BlackBerry. Makes sense considering the BlackBerry provides instant access to email, contact lists and the Internet. Now wouldn't it be great if Hillary whipped out an iPhone one of these days?! Talk about a great photo-op!

When I came across these BlackBerry and Nokia cell phone cases at CES, it didn't take much for me to focus my attention on the Nokia display case. What's not to like about cases that exude uniqueness, flair and metallic hues? I can totally appreciate plain accessories every now and then, but the BlackBerry cases just seem too masculine and boring for my liking. The Nokia cases look like they come in a variety of sizes, but I'm sure I wouldn't have a problem slipping my iPhone or BlackBerry Pearl into one of them! Which set of cases are you digging more?
