Palm Centro smart device

Okay, i want one of these. at least right now. it is the coolest phone ever. granted Nokia had a booth, but i'm a smartphone user so i didn't bother to view their phones.

anyway, the Centro is a smartphone but way smaller than the Treo. however, it has all the capabilities of the Treo. there's a full keyboard and touchscreen. it has 64 mb of memory. it can be expanded with a microSD card up to 4GB.

there's text messaging, IM, and access to Yahoo, AOL, and Gmail accounts. there's also Microsoft Direct Push technology for Outlook. it has the same programs that my Treo 650 has but here's the kicker.

it's only $99. i don't get it. the Palm rep explained that it has all the functions of the Treo but it smaller (he pulled out his 755). something has to be missing because it's only $100. it also has a 1.3 MP camera, YouTube, Flickr, and MySpace.

the size is 2.11" wide x 4.22" long x 0.7" deep. it's also 4.2 ounces. it comes in two colors onyx and ruby. it's for Sprint right now and should be available in October 2007. i have Verizon and although he couldn't say for certain, the rep says if Verizon picked up the phone it would be available in February 2008.

he also wouldn't say when any other new Palm devices would be available. he just couldn't say...even if he knew. go figure.

i'm not sure what's different, but i'm going to read the brochure one more time to figure out.

Palm Centro

Sunrise over Palm Springs
I took a picture of my friend Tycho when we were backpacking on the Cactus to Clouds trail. This is a few hours into the trail, and at the moment the picture was taken, Tycho was looking at the city of Palm Springs, just as the sun was coming up. The camera used was a Canon Powershot SX100 IS, and I hand held the camera.
Palm Oil Free-Thanks Lush!!

Lush develops new (very nearly) palm free soap base, hooray!!

The threat to biodiversity, global warming and human rights represented by the demand for palm oil is by now a well publicized one. Ancient rain forests are being destroyed to make way for palm oil plantations, a situation which is leaving a trail of havoc in its wake. Wild orangutans in Sumatra and Borneo are being threatened with extinction, indigenous peoples are being robbed of their land, causing violent conflict, and peat fires used to clear land for plantations represent the third largest contributor to CO2 emissions in the world.

The situation is not a good one. Especially when you consider that most of us are directly contributing to the problem, with one in ten products in the supermarket containing palm oil. For example, a whole 6% of palm oil produced goes into making sure you're not sitting at your desk emitting BO and frightening your colleagues (or perhaps you are, I don't know...). At least on this front, however, help is at hand - cosmetics company Lush has spent most of the past year attempting to develop a palm oil free formula with which it can create all its soap...

After unsuccessful in-house trials involving olive oil and sunflower oil, they decided to consult every soap base maker in the UK and find out what suggestions they might have. Their knight in shining armor turned out to be Kays (Ramsbottom) Limited, the oldest soap maker in the UK, who eventually came up with a winning combination of sunflower, rapeseed and coconut oil. The formula, it was agreed, could feasibly be used on a scale large enough to accommodate the needs of commercial soap production.

Unfortunately, it's not quite 100% palm oil free yet. Traces of palm oil still exist in the formula, as two main ingredients in soap - Sodium Stearate and Sodium Laurel - both contain palm oil. Given that these are obtained from third parties, action further up the chain is required to remedy this. This is a minor consideration, however, when the overall level of palm oil required in the development of this formula in comparison to previous soap bases is taken into account!

Larry Birkhead & Dannielynn House Hunt in Palm Beach

Larry Birkhead and Dannielynn, his 1-year-old daughter with the late Anna Nicole Smith, are checking out real estate in Palm Beach, according to the Palm Beach Post.

"We're looking at the [real estate] market," the 35-year-old dad told the Florida newspaper. "There are obviously some buyers who could use a little help. I'm getting to know the area. It's the first time I've come here ... We looked at some places."

The inseparable duo has been in Palm Beach for a week, even hitting up Disney World. "We're just here to get some warm weather," said Birkhead, who nursed Dannielynn after her corrective eye surgery in February. "We've been pretty low-key. I wear hats and glasses and stuff."

Although the town, which touts itself as having "the best of everything," is adjacent to Smith's grave in Nassau, Birkhead said, "I'm not going to the Bahamas. I'm just discovering this town."

Palm Sunday

Today is the day of the Triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Jesus came riding into Jerusalem riding on a donkey and where palms where laid down before Him as King. Let us take time today to quietly reflect on what was coming for Him within the coming week. What was He thinking about when He entered Jerusalem that day? Knowing about the sacrifice He was about to make for us all.
Have a quiet and blessed Palm Sunday.
God bless and keep you all
In Christ's Perfect love,
Susie

We All Bow Down - Chris Tomlin

You're arriving in the calm of the wind and the waves
You're arriving in the glow of a burning flame
A burning flame

Praise awaits You at the dawn when the world comes alive
Praise awaits You in the darkness and shines in the light
Praise awaits You with a song of love and desire
Love and desire

Here comes the King
All bow down
You are coming again with a shout from the sky
You are coming again to take away Your bride
To take away Your bride

Here comes the King

right now it's only available in blue, but i'm sure more cute colors are coming.

By Gregg Kilday

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Actress Helen Hunt's feature directing debut will receive its U.S. premiere at the 19th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival as the opening-night feature on January 3.

"Then She Found Me" revolves around a New York teacher (Hunt) encountering a midlife crisis. Bette Midler, Colin Firth and Matthew Broderick also star. The movie is set for a May release via indie distributor ThinkFilm.

Hunt, best known for her sitcom "Mad About You" and Oscar-winning turn in "As Good As It Gets," co-wrote the script with Victor Levin and Alice Arlen from a novel by Elinor Lipman.

She is not the only actress working the festival circuit with a directing project. Kirsten Dunst's "Welcome" and Isabella Rossellini's "Green Porno" are among the 83 short films that will screen at the Sundance Film Festival (January 17-27) in Park City, Utah.

I went out to the IE (Inland Empire, for you non-Californians out there) last week and didn't get to stop at a single restaurant, which is why this post isn't a review.

But I did get to chat with my friend who works out there, and I asked her for some restaurant recommendations.

As you can see, almost all of the restaurants are on the same street, so you can just walk around and look before you decide what you feel like eating. Have a great time, Amity! Let me know how the restaurants worked out for you!

Well now I'm turning the attention to another popular topic of '09 - cell phones! Last year seemed to be all about the iPhone 3G, but this year, we not only got our hands on a new iPhone 3GS, but some pretty fancy BlackBerrys, Android handsets, and impressive smartphones from Palm. There was certainly a lot of pretty new smartphones to choose from, but which one did you like the best?
