On a balmy autumn day in Vancouver, a young man is longing for a walk outside in the sunshine, and deciding against it. Far easier for him to stay in his hotel room, cocooned in five-star luxury with a mobile phone that has run out of charge, safe at least from the girls chanting his name outside. Robert Pattinson, 23 and from Barnes in southwest London, ought still to be one of Hollywood’s beautiful dreamers, moving up the ranks of movie acting, enjoying his American adventure, his guitar, his good looks.

Over the last 20 years, the Love Me Tender animal rescue in central Tennessee has rounded up more than 1,000 abandoned dogs. And although most are timid and untrusting, CBS News correspondent Steve Hartman reports, one Rottweiler named Ella was notably different.
"I could just tell right away she was somebody's baby.

As a mom of three teenagers I sometimes wonder if they listen to half of what I say and find myself praying they at least allow some of what they are ignoring to seep into their subconscious. Anyway that is my life day in and day out…listen to me…pay attention…this is important…. been there right?
Kids seem to take on parts of our own personalities. When they do, seeing that little piece of yourself in a mannerism, a laugh, or perhaps that one trait you wish they hadn’t grabbed onto and kept as their own; it can just drive you nuts. On the other hand, it may just make you want to burst out in laughter.

Falsely accused man: Hofstra rape probe was rushed
September 17, 2009 by KEITH HERBERT AND DANIEL EDWARD ROSEN / keith.herbert@newsday.com
Nassau officials should have been more thorough before they arrested, publicly vilified and locked up four men accused of raping a Hofstra University student who later recanted her story, one of the men said Wednesday.
"I think they should have gathered more evidence . .

I live with my boyfriend of 3 years and for the past year, our sex life has steadily gone downhill. We used to have sex 4 or 5 times a week... I don't expect that much now, and would be happy with 2 or 3 times a week IF he seemed into it. I discovered about a year ago just how much porn he is looking at - it's every single day, sometimes 4 or 5 times a day, and he masturbates while he's watching it. At first, I thought it was OK that he spent some time getting off to porn as long as we still had regular sex and he was satisfied by me. By the way, he still says that he gets turned on with me and that I totally satisfy him sexually.
The problem is that when he started losing interest in sex, I started looking at his internet history. I thought he might be cheating on me, but found out that he is not. He started a job that is very close to home so he comes home for lunch every day, and gets home from work a couple hours before I do. I found out that not only does he jerk off to porn every morning, but he also jerks off to it almost every day at lunch time, right after he gets home from work, and sometimes in the evening before I get home. He also looks at porn every time I leave the house on a weekend (like grocery shopping).
During this time, he has lost interest in having sex with me. He will offer once a week or so, but it feels like it is a chore for him, which hurts me deeply and makes me feel rejected and unattractive. I cannot compete with the endless stream of women he has access to online. I chose my profile picture because she is his "ideal woman" - gorgeous face and body with HUGE natural breasts (I'm a D cup, but feel small compared to this!). I also looked at his cell phone online history and have discovered that he also looks at porn on his phone, uploaded porn videos to it, and has lots of photos women with big tits.

31 August 2009Helmand Province, Afghanistan
The historical Afghan elections scheduled for 20 August were days away. While the west mostly continued to vote for Afghanistan, the big question was, “Will Afghanistan vote for itself?”
The latest media wave splashed into the main voting centers in places like Kabul, Kandahar, Jalalabad, Herat and Lashkar Gah. The larger cities only account for perhaps 20% of the Afghan population. Whereas the easy and obvious stories are in the cities, a crucial and larger dimension—the other 80%—would unfold in the boonies. Most Afghans would have no chance to vote.
The election was to be run by Afghans. In theory and in practice this would be a recipe for disaster. The strategic thinkers cannot be faulted for this; after nearly eight years of war, if the west were still running the elections, the elections and government would be a failure to begin with. By comparison, the Iraqi elections on 30 January 2005 (less than two years after invasion) were run mostly by Iraqis. In the voting of October and December of that same year, Iraqis had two more runs at the ballots, which were increasingly successful. Afghanistan, however, is different. This would be only the second election in history.
There are no good choices here. Either we run the elections and the central government and in doing so undermine the same central government we are investing in, or we allow that central government to run the elections and probably watch it undermine itself. But who knows?
