The cost of maintaining a home and appliances is often a major deterrent for those debating whether to rent or purchase a home. The unexpected expense of fixing leaky gutters and broken dishwashers can be budget breaking if it comes at the wrong time of month. Not to mention it's a huge pain.

A year after an unruly crowd trampled a worker to death at a Wal-Mart store, the nation’s retailers are preparing for another Black Friday, the blockbuster shopping day after Thanksgiving. Along with offering $300 laptops and $99 navigation devices, stores are planning new safety measures to make sure the festive day does not take another deadly turn.
Last year, frenzied shoppers at a Wal-Mart in Valley Stream, N.Y., trampled Jdimytai Damour, a temporary store worker who died soon afterward.

My family has been thinking of him a remote car starter and a nice desk chair for work...but those seem uninspired to me.
My dad is super hard to shop for:
He has more clothes than anyone I know.
Same with tools.
He likes sports, but not enough to have any gear
He rarely does anything for himself - he spends his weekends working in the yard or around the house.
He deserves a great birthday present - In the past, I've bought him shirts, ties, pajamas, fragrance sets, a GPS...they've never felt like enough. I thought about getting him a nice LED flat screen TV, but that's out of my price range.
Any ideas would be extremely helpful! Thank you!

Thanks to the sexy vampires of New Moon, being bad has never looked so good. Rachelle Lefevre, Ashley Greene, and Kellan Lutz are featured in the November issue of Self and opened up to the magazine about their personal style — or in Lefevre’s case, Kate Moss’s style. The actress calls the model her “style icon” and confesses that when she’s getting dressed, she always asks herself what Moss would do.

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas gave birth to the modern oil industry, invented the handheld calculator and sent man to the moon. But can the Lone Star State cure cancer?
Texas is ready to try by investing $3 billion over the next decade in cancer research and prevention, which would make the state the gatekeeper of the second largest pot of cancer research dollars in the country, behind only the National Cancer Institute.

When I saw the purple batwing top from Dorothy Perkins (top right), I immediately thought of my good friend Eich, who breathes said color. Then one thing led to another and before I knew it, I had an entire ensemble laid out on my screen. I paired the top with pintucked trousers from the Gap, further elongating her tower-like pins, and croco pony printed flats from Via Spiga (since she doesn't need to be any taller than she already is!).

Media Malpractice: Tom Brokow's World Implodes

Tom Brokaw.
With the passing of Walter Cronkite, Mr. Brokaw is considered perhaps the new "dean" of journalism. As such the former NBC News anchor is periodically summoned forth to assess the current world, an occasion that presented itself recently on the venerable NBC Sunday newser Meet the Press.

'Armadillo' Plays Well in Peoria But Is Panned by Drug Dealers
PEORIA, Ill. -- This industrial city, hard hit by the recession, has found a new, low-budget way to fight crime: Park an unmanned, former Brink's truck bristling with video cameras in front of the dwellings of troublemakers.
Police here call it the Armadillo.

Okay, so, I've never actually had my own tv. We weren't allowed to have them in my housing in college (we had a big tv room downstairs) and when I graduated someone gave me their old one but I used it to watch DVDs for a month and then it ended up in the trash because my apartment was tiny and I could watch DVDs on my laptop. (I still feel bad for putting it in the dumpster instead of recycling it.)
But now I live in a bigger place, and we're thinking about getting one to put in the finished basement.
