Ok, (I hope I'm doing this right)
I'm posting this in the Ask A Geek group and I really, really need to know how to transfer my family's home movies to DVD. Our videos date from 1984 to current and they mean a lot to us, we would most likely keep the VHS tapes but want copies for DVD (and I'll probably have edited versions too.)
But I need help...I have no idea what I need to get started. I know that their are businesses that offer this kind of service but I'm dubious about what software their using and how to find a reputable pro, trusting someone else with our memories and so on so I thought I would try for myself.

Oh my gosh, I absolutely love Says-It! When I first came across this rad site, I had no idea that you could choose from a variety of objects, signs, seals and badges to create hilarious graphics for! Says-It is just as addictive as MagMyPic because the options are endless with what you can design.

I love my iPod, but there is a new music player vying for my heart: the slotRadio ($79) by Sansa.
The two-inch-by-two-inch clip-on music player comes with a data card with 1,000 songs from the Billboard music charts, with prearranged playlists by music genre. I tried the additional Health and Fitness mix, which includes the mixes for warmup, cardio, roadwork (cycling), power (lifting), yoga, cooldown, and the even more mellow spa mix.

The one movie I will plan on seeing (and supporting) is Director Michel Gondry's "Be Kind Rewind" starring Jack Black and Mos Def. It has been on my radar since I first heard about it last summer but just forgot about it with all the hype on "Indiana Jones," "The Dark Knight," "Juno," etc.
Thankfully I came across a 2-minute trailer in the Internet to remind me to see the film when it comes out on Jan.

I want to have all of Wes Anderson's films on DVD (I already have Rushmore on DVD, and I only have The Royal Tenenbaums on VHS). Ugh. I looooove his films.

We open on a FLASHBACK. Juliet is sitting in what looks like a therapist's office, looking uncomfortable. A woman, Harper Stanhope, enters, and apologizes for the wait.

I always loved this cartoon. It was on a VHS tape my mother made for me and my sisters that had a bunch of holiday cartoons we'd watch each winter.
I am going to see if I can find more from that tape...

MASTECTOMY: the surgical removal of the affected breast(s), and the reconstructive surgery involved in re-creating a new breast out of skin grafted from the abdomen.
I learned the definition of this procedure in junior high, when my mom came home with the dreaded manila envelope carrying her test results. I remember the tears in her eyes, fixated on the screen, playing the VHS tape on the TV, where they scientifically explained the various reconstructive options she had.

How to rid yourself of stuff that can't go in the recycling bin
by Jennifer Boulden and Heather Stephenson

Anyone who’s ever moved from a larger place into a smaller one knows how difficult it can be to jettison unwanted stuff in an environmentally friendly way—especially when it’s bulky, of unknown origin, or the type of thing that requires wearing a Hazmat suit to recycle. Seeking answers, ReadyMade enlisted the help of Ideal Bite, a daily email newsletter devoted to “light-green living,” to create a crib sheet for those with the urge to purge. Downsizers, don’t leave home without it.
