Reading Lifehacker keeps me up to date with geeky tips and tricks, but I never expected the site would help me improve my vocabulary. (No offense to the writers of the site, I'm just sayin'.) This week Lifehacker introduced me to howjsay, an online English pronouncing dictionary that offers instant sound to help you get your accentuation right. All you have to do is type in a specific word and click "submit" and a computerized voice enunciates the word out loud using the most common punctuation.

This one goes out to all you PC-loving geeksugar fans who routinely scold me for being Mac-centric. Yesterday Lifehacker featured this open-source app iTunes Hotkey controls iTunes with keyboard shortcuts that will aid every PC-music fan out there.
The Amazing Ant assigns key combinations to iTunes functions.

Instead of visiting your friend's house to rip all of her CDs one by one, you can save yourself the trouble with Mojo — it's a download that gives you convenient access to your friends' iTunes libraries. Now, you can't download Mojo and just grab everyone's music willy-nilly — the friends need to be on your network at the same time, and they need to have downloaded Mojo as well.
After you've both downloaded Mojo, you get your friend's username and add each other.

OMG you guys, I heart this site! How many times have you gone to a website only to have it take waay too long to load?! Or maybe you get an error message, but desperately need to see what all the fuss over that Heidi Montag video is about (cause, you know, you've been living under a very dense rock) and won't leave the site without seeing it?

Our friends at lifehacker dug up this download that's awesome for when you see a video on YouTube or MySpace that you want to keep on your computer and have access to when you're offline.
UnPlug, a Firefox add-on, puts an adorable fish icon in your toolbar, and when you're on a page with an embedded video you want to keep, just click the fish and a download page will come up. The files save in flash, so if the files don't play initially, you can download the media player VLC to watch them.

If you're not a pro Photoshopper but like playing with photos, check out RoundPic. The site performs the very, very simple task of cutting the corners off of online pictures, which I imagine it is quite useful if your photo-editing skills aren't up to par. As Lifehacker puts it: "Rounded corners can give a photo album or personal website an elegant look, but only if you've downloaded the right software or learned the steps in Photoshop or the GIMP."

Remember when I talked about Picnik? The free online photo-editing program that lets you crop, resize, and add cool effects to your photos without having to download a thing?!
Well, lifehacker has just announced that there is now a Firefox extension download of Picnik that will let you edit any website image by right-clicking your mouse.

Whenever I want to purchase a big-ticket item from Amazon — whether it be a camera or TV — I always wait a few weeks to see if the price goes down, which quite often it does.
Thanks to lifehacker, I've just learned that there's a Firefox extension called PriceDrop that will track the prices of various Amazon products for you. Best of all, it will notify you with a pop-up window whenever the price drops, so you can quickly pull out your credit card.
