FBI to Battle Zombie Hordes
Thu Jun 14, 2007 11:03PM EDT
You may not know that your computer is sending spam, being used as a pawn in coordinated internet attacks, hosting illegal files, or otherwise part of the malware-distribution network known as the zombie horde. Some estimates peg the number of email spams sent each day at around 55 billion, the vast majority of which are sent by infected PCs, usually without any knowledge of it by their owner.
It's all part of what's known as a botnet, giant networks of malware-infected PCs that act as slaves to a master controller via the internet.

Video: Small Business Insurance
A leading organisation is of insurers and underwriters are predicting that the recession and continued job losses will see an increase in white collar extortion against businesses. The organisation also found that many businesses are not insured against cyber crimes which could result in data or business loss.
“According to a DTI Information Security Breaches Survey, a third of UK businesses think general small business insurance provides full cover for damage to the business arising from data loss,” commented a spokesperson, “but the reality is quite different, with very few businesses likely to be insured against the result of cyber attacks on its most crucial management and business tool – corporate and customer information, most of which is today held on corporate IT systems.

The Angelina Jolie virus, a new and potentially smothering computer virus, is set to strike computers around the world on Friday. Popularly known as the Black Mother Widow (BMW) virus, this dangerous scourge is thought to be the work of an Amsterdam-based group of hackers that calls itself Één meer Toke.Microsoft officials, who claimed at first that Windows operating systems are “impervious” to the BMW virus, now assure all Microsoft users that a new service pack will be released “before or shortly after” the BMW virus is launched. The Windows service pack, after it has been installed, will require Windows users to leave their computers unplugged for “at least ten days” before rebooting.“Current research is trending toward the conclusion that computers left unplugged, even if they are running Windows Vista and Microsoft Mail, are at least 50 percent less likely to be infected with a virus than computers actually connected to the Internet," said one Microsoft security official.

In honor of Reading Is Sexy's grand opening, I'm going to start off with the series that's has been holding me in a chockhold for going on 10 years now.
Nora Roberts, writing as JD Robb in her not so far distant future has captured my attention since my very good friend lend me a copy of the 1st of the series, Naked In Death. That copy started me on my 10 year journey of hunting and gathering mission to find and read every one of the books in the series.

Scammers are riding the wave of concern over the swine flu outbreak in their latest attempts to defraud unsuspecting consumers, the Better Business Bureau said.
“Scammers read newspapers, watch TV and surf the Internet and they know that by using a hook from the day’s top headlines, that they’ll be able to catch lots of fish,” said Jeannette Kopko, spokesperson for the BBB serving Dallas and Northeast Texas. "Right now, issues associated with swine flu and a potential pandemic are of global interest and that means scammers have a very large pond to go phishing in.”
Scam artitsts jumped at the chance to spark their own swine flu spam epidemic as soon as the news of the virus began, according to McAffee Avert Labs, an online security company.

I admit "zombies/humans infected by a virus a la '28 Weeks Later,' 'Dawn of the Dead,' 'Resident Evil,' '30 Days of Night,' etc" are my ultimate film guilty pleasures. I don't know why but they are the films that I watch often. I prefer them more than the new kind of horror movies that have come out recently like "Saw," "Hostel," "The Hills Have Eyes" or as they are lovingly called "gore porn."
