A few months ago, TreeHugger Mark Ontkush wrote a post on his blog EcoIron titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year. The post lays out the following train of thought. “An all white web page uses about 74 watts to display, while an all black page uses only 59 watts.” Google, which has a white background and gets about “200 million queries a day” could reduce global energy use by 750 Megawatt-hours a year by simply changing the color of its homepage to black.

It doesn't take much to sell me on energy saving gadgets or the fact that we should all be monitoring our energy use, but I'm still unsure what I think about Blackle, a custom Google search that claims to save energy simply "because the screen is predominantly black."
The site's only differing function from Google is the fact that its background is black and the results are white - making it a hard-to-read, but allegedly power-saving, adaptation of the world's favorite search site.
Apparently, the idea for the site was born from a 2007 blog post, Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year, which proposed that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy and the fact that "a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen."

Google just launched www.blackle.com It's a "dark" version of their infamous search engine. They say that a predominately black screen uses less energy.

Now that you know about Blackle, the energy-saving custom Google search, let me tell you about Find It Girlfriend — the pink Google (no this is not a V-Day joke)! Discovered by TeamSugar user Sarah Miller, Find It Girlfriend is a fun and flirty search site that puts the regular Google to shame (that is, unless you are using iGoogle).
Find It Girlfriend also makes it easy for you to help fight breast cancer by clicking on the "Help Fight Breast Cancer" link on any page.

It's hard to make a case against the cuteness of pink, but is an all pink search engine too much to handle? When rachelface submitted Pinkle as Website of the Day she noted "I love pink, and I love Google, but is this TOO far?" I couldn't agree more.
