Disney's Website Takes the Cheese

Just when you thought YouTube was the end all and be all. Ever since Disney re-vamped its website, the site has been getting 25 million unique users a month, 100 million videos shown a week and 1 billion pages served every thirty days. Just in case you're not a computer geek, that's a LOT of traffic.
This year long makeover project, led by Bob Iger, includes five key principles: community, remixing content, user-generated content, online video, and story-driven experiences. Why so popular you ask? Ars technica explains that "the company has an enviable archive of characters and content to draw on, much of which is long tail material that is no longer viable at retail. The brand is trusted by parents and kids alike and is known for offering clean content that parents don't need to monitor." That calls for a - hey Mickey you're so fine you're so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey!

Steve Tells Bill: You Are in the iWorld

This video is hilarious! Gotta love it when they whip out their Star Wars light sabers. Bill, "You're crazy." Steve, "Crazy about converting technologies for the Gen-Y market." Check it or wreck it.

Viacom Sues Google For One Billion Dollars

Media giant Viacom, the parent company of networks like MTV, Comedy Central and the Cartoon Network, put the smack down today suing Google and YouTube for “massive intentional copyright infringement.” Viacom has been fighting with YouTube for some time over clips of Viacom programs and shows that end up on the site, and is now asking for $1 billion in damages. As we all know, Google bought YouTube recently for 1.65 billion, so $1 billion isn't exactly chump change. Here's more:

Viacom accused the video-sharing Web site of “exploiting the devotion of fans to others’ creative work in order to enrich itself.” It added: “There is no question that YouTube and Google are continuing to take the fruit of our efforts without permission and destroying enormous value in the process.”

The lawsuit is the latest scuffle between YouTube and Viacom. Last month, Viacom demanded that YouTube remove more than 100,000 clips of its programming. YouTube complied, and in some cases posted a disclaimer that read: “removed at the request of Viacom International” where Viacom material once was.

Viacom said 160,000 clips of its programming have been available on YouTube and that they had been viewed more than 1.5 billion times. Somewhere, Austin Powers is getting really excited about the return of the "1 billion dollars."

Geeky Girl Gone Wild !

What the... Who the...Tooooo funny! I saw this video and had to share. Nintendo's new Wii (it's pronounced "we") has only been out a few weeks and it's already revolutionizing the video game world by getting people off the couch and on the move! Clearly, reactions vary.

Make your own Wii video, use my Three-Step Guide to Uploading Videos on YouTube and share it with me in the Geeks Gone Wild: Wii Videos suite. I'll feature my faves on geeksugar! The crazier, the better.

For me, it's usually when I find a hot new song or I have a favorite new music video that I can't get enough of. So you can imagine how excited I was when I came across a site called TubeReplay that will automatically replay any YouTube video. Just copy and paste the YouTube URL into the TubeReplay box and it will keep replaying the video, so you don't have to worry about pressing play multiple times. Perfect when setting the mood with a virtual fireplace, or when you are obsessed with Britney Spears's new song.
Geek Tip: Check Out YouTube Videos on a Timeline

The Internet can provide a wealth of knowledge these days, but sometimes I find that the news can get a little jumbled. Like searching YouTube for videos relating to the presidential election - although you can sort by when videos were uploaded (today, this week, or this month) things are still out of order and shown by how many views, not by latest video uploaded. I want up-to-the-minute results!

Which is why I think this latest YouTube mashup is pretty cool. Brought to us by Dipity, TimeTube lets you check out uploaded videos on a timeline so you never miss a beat. You can search any subject under the sun and TimeTube will show you videos dating back up to 500 years! Did YouTube exist back then? I didn't think so.

YouTube Takes the Plunge Into Live Webcasting

Some days (when I have time), I'll get a pretty great ab workout from all the laughs I find on YouTube. Some of my friends think it's the best invention since Cheetos - and it looks like they're about to get even better. Not only is YouTube calling itself the "world's largest video discovery platform", but it's also dipping its toes into the pool of live webcasting; starting with their inaugural YouTube Live event taking place here in San Francisco on November 22.

The huge two hour webcast will host YouTube vets Katy Perry, Will.i.Am, Esmee Denters, along with performances by other well known YouTube users. Does the name Tay Zonday ring any bells? I thought so. But I'm betting the highlight of the evening will be going down at the post-show party somewhere around the Guitar Hero kiosks. Musicians and geeks in one room? You know there will be some serious shredding taking place!

Turn Your TV Into a YouTube Screen

When I spotted these on BuzzFeed I thought I'd get some and pull a prank on the boyfriend, but I think these stickers would look too itsy bitsy on a 47-inch TV screen. But then again, they are too geekilicious to pass up.

Has YouTube Gone Too Far With Graphic Videos?

With thousands of videos being posted on YouTube daily, it's practically impossible for each video to be watched before it is made available online, making it easier for people to publish graphic, violent or obscene material. BBC News, has noted that police chiefs are now urging websites like YouTube to remove violent video footage of children fighting. They argue that YouTube and Google should be filtering material before it is posted. YouTube claims that this would be censorship and is not the role of a private company - they currently rely on their users to flag videos inappropriate when they deem necessary. In a poll conducted by Switched entitled "Should YouTube filter child-fight videos before they're posted?" More than 70 percent of respondents agreed that they should be. What are your thoughts on all of this? Do you think YouTube has gone too far with their video leniency? Leave your comments below!

OK, I promised you a full recap about my event-filled Saturday - the flight, the WiFi test drive, and the YouTube Live Event - and here it is!
