Nintendo's Wii Strap Gets Safety Upgrade

Time to put those handcuffs away because Nintendo World Report has just announced that the Wii strap will be getting a much-needed locking clip to replace the existing loose clip. Millions of Wii straps were recalled this year after reports of shattered TV screens and injuries, so locking clips will be put to good use to prevent further Wiimote flying incidences. No word as to whether or not the new Wiimotes will include these clips or if you need to purchase them separately. My advice is to invest in one if your Wiimote has a tendency to slip off your wrist during intense games of boxing!

Giant Plushie Wii-Mote

Don't you just love your Wii so so much?! I mean, do you love it so much you wish you could wrap your arms around your Wii-mote and sleep with it at night? Well those dreams can come true with the giant plushie Wiimote.

Kotaku exposed this 26" tall, 5.5" wide stuffed gadget to the world and I must say, I haven't recovered. It includes all the appropriate controls and can be used to sit on, to sleep with and for wild pillow fights.

This cozy Wii-mote is unfortunately already sold-out, and I can't seem to find it on any other sites, which leads me to believe this crafty creation is homemade and quite possibly hand stitched? Whoever you are and wherever you are, Wii fans want you to make more!

Nintendo To Release Colored Wii-motes and Nunchakus?

With the popularity of the Wii, I knew it was only going to be a matter of time before the Wii and its accessories got a fashionable upgrade. Rumor has it that colored Wii-motes and Nunchakus are currently in the making. Colors include a silver, blue and pearl pink Wiimote and a silver, blue and pearl pink Nunchaku. These rainbow bright gadgets are set to ship in Europe on June 29th. If all goes as planned, expect to see some matching colored consoles soon after. And yes, I plan to search far and wide for a better shot of the pearl and pink Wii-motes and Nunchakus.

Grid Wall Pockets: A Chic Remote and Wii-Mote Organizer

The brand spankin' new Grid Wall Pocket is currently on display at the ICFF '09 in NYC.

To you, the Grid might just look like a wall-hanging with pockets, but I look at it and think: Ding! A remote organizer. Not only that, but any other small peripherals that go with my home tech, like Wiimotes, nunchucks, and the teeny tiny Apple TV remote.

I'm always looking for chic ways to store remotes, so this is definitely a worthy contender. My flat surfaces may be covered, but my walls still have some valuable real estate on them.

I'm not gonna lie, after getting a sneak peek of New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii back in June at E3, I've been secretly counting down the days until I can pop this game into my shiny white console.

In less than five days (this Sunday!) SMB for the Wii ($50) will be released across the country, and I can tell you this much - it's going to be on many wish lists this holiday season - heck, it's already getting rave reviews.

There's no denying that Super Mario Bros. games have staying power - SMB3 did win our best video game ever bracket challenge! And with this game you can experience multiplayer fun (Mario, Luigi and two toads are playable characters), use the new propeller suit, and shake and tilt your wiimote to do fun things like tilt seesaws and transform Mario into a penguin.

I love how Panasonic unveils a new line of beautiful plasma TVs at the HD Networking Conference in Valencia, Spain and their biggest selling feature is the fact that they can withstand Wiimotes! According to Gamertell, these televisions can resist up to four joules of energy - preventing your wiimote from shattering your TV screen in a game of Wii Tennis, Bowling, Boxing, and the list goes on and on. I guess if you're a Wii fanatic, this television plus an upgraded Wii strap will do the trick - better to be safe than sorry!

Wiimote + Nunchuk = Knitting Needles?!

I've seen things knitted for the Wii, but I had never actually considered using the Wii to knit, yet that's what an artist and a scientist set out to do on Kniiting.

Using the Wiimote and nunchuk as "needles", Kniitting tracks hand motions of the actual knitting, making up code as it goes along. It looks like Kniitting will eventually have a Wii game, so you can knit, game, and make awesome geek crafts all at once.

For now, browse game play, the possible accessories you could make, and then cross your fingers for it to become a reality. My hope is that I'll actually learn to knit while playing my Wii!

Cozy Up Your Wiimotes and Nunchucks

Multiple remotes are the bane of my nesting existence. I'm excited whenever we get a new gadget or console, but when I see new remotes or controllers, I curse a little to myself.

These Remote Control Pockets for the Wii, just $8 each, are my first step to corralling my remote mess. The nunchucks and Wiimotes are cozied in there adorably, plus the organization factor is where it's at.

I think I'll take a cue from these and get other baskets to put on my coffee table for remotes. I'm already feeling better about my organizational skills!
