Are You Surprised Wii Sports Is the Best-Selling Video Game?

Software company VGChartz says that Wii Sports is the world's best-selling video game, which has raised more than a few eyebrows. I certainly credit the game for being a great introduction to the Wii itself (there's a reason that it comes with the console), and to selling people on the Wii and casual gaming in general.

Best-selling is certainly different than saying it's the best (you said the best for 2008 was the Wii Fit), and I also wonder if the fact that the sales of the Wii are so good that Wii Sports is getting the props because it's included. In any case, it has surpassed Super Mario Bros. in sales, which could not have been an easy feat.

So tell me, all things considered, are you surprised that the world's best-selling video game is Wii Sports?

Games Can Get You In Shape For the Big Day Too!

I guess it's a rite of passage that you freak out before your wedding - whether it's over the flower arrangements, the cake, or your body. Although you should never stoop to crash dieting (I know Fit would tell you the same), it may actually help you to chill out by playing a video game. Bonus, if those games are interactive and get your blood pumping, you might just lose a few pounds while you're at it and tip the scales in your favor.

We all know what a workout you can get by playing Dance Dance Revolution, right? While having a blast matching your foot movements with the beat, in one hour you could be burning up to 900 calories! Not to mention, it might help you learn a few moves for the reception.

Wii Fit is the most anticipated excergaming device of the year! With the Wii being totally family friendly, Wii Fit is sure to make a dent in the child obesity rates, right? Although you probably aren't going to get a killer cardio workout like you would in step class at your gym, you'll learn relaxation with yoga, tone your muscles, and amp up your coordination so you can walk down the aisle calm, cool, and super toned.

My Weight Loss Coach is hitting the shelves in the fall and I can already tell it will be one of my fave weight loss devices yet. Not only is it super portable – made just for your Nintendo DS – it has the potential to help you make leaps and bounds with your eating habits. . . as well as keeping you honest about your activity.

Wii Sports has been an excergaming fave since it "bowled" its way into our hearts in 2006. Not only used for rehabilitation in hospitals, preventing sedentary lifestyles in seniors, and of course weight loss, but possibly improving your golf swing so you can be sure to impress your new hubby while on your honeymoon!

Geek Out! What Do You Wear For Wii Tennis?

City Magazine put together a fun mix of outfits for Wii tennis, baseball, golf, boxing and bowling and when I showed Fab, she challenged all of us geeks to find the ultimate Wii sports outfit. Wii Sports Sequel, Remote Attachment Coming Soon

If you spent all your spare hours knocking down pins and throwing curve balls when you first cracked open your Wii by going Pro in Wii Sports, then get ready - you're about to go a few rounds with Wii Sports Resort this Summer! Not to be confused with the third party title Summer Sports: Paradise Island, this game is coming straight from Nintendo and will hit the shelves July 26. Announced at last year's E3 conference, Wii Sports Resort will include Summer fun activities like water skiing, playing Frisbee with a Mii-like dog, and sword fighting. Yes, sword fighting - make up for all the times your mom told you not to play with sticks in the house!

Adding to the fun is the new Wii remote attachment that makes your movements even more realistic. Called Wii MotionPlus, this sensor attaches to the bottom of your remote and catches slight movements and enhances your playing experience. Sold together, Wii Summer Sports and Wii MotionPlus will set you back $50, but if you only want more accuracy for your favorite games (this will come in especially handy for your golf swing), Wii MotionPlus will cost just $20.

Great Geek Gear Find: Wii Sports Cuff

Thanks to TeamSugar user eleganteazucar for geek gearing this retractable Wii sports cuff for the Wii remote control.

Put aside the piddly factory designed Wii strap, and forget about having any minor Wii strap incidences because the Wii cuff will keep the remote safely and securely attached to your wrist. The cuff can retract up to thirteen inches and is adjustable so you can get the perfect fit! Maybe not the most gorgeous gadget accessory, but for $6 you can keep it on the sidelines for intense boxing rounds.

Wii Sports Resort Is Here! Are You Buying?

I still play Wii Sports on a regular basis, which makes me think that Wii Sports Resort will be a staple in my game playing rotation (stay tuned for the review!).

With 26 mini games (including wakeboarding, fencing and Frisbee) and cool new challenges in single player mode, Wii Sports Resort is made to be paired up with the Wii MotionPlus to make your gameplay even more accurate - which we all know comes in handy when you're attempting that pro level putting green.

For $45, you'll get the game and a free Wii MotionPlus sensor to boot. Not a bad price considering how much use this game is bound to get, eh?

Wii Sports Resort Commercial Gets Me Excited For the Game

I know, I included Wii Sports Resort in my August must-haves list and already asked you if you were planning on picking up the game. But, after watching Nintendo's new Wii Sports Resort commercial, which starts airing today, I'm really excited to go kayaking and play ping-pong -who knew?! And don't even get me started about the addition of the Wii MotionPlus accessory, which is said to track a player's movements in finer detail. I may just work up more of a sweat with this game than with EA Sports Active. . . looking forward to seeing how accurate it really is!

Summer Is Coming Early With Summer Sports: Paradise Island

I'm going to bet on the fact that if you have a Wii, you love playing Wii Sports. Well the game that has certainly been a hit with everyone from seniors to professionals in the medical field has now got another partner in crime-Summer Sports: Paradise Island! Summer Sports: Paradise Island takes you to a sunny island resort where you can play seven warm weather games including volleyball, lawn darts, croquet, horseshoes and mini golf.

Set for a release in March, I'm super stoked to play some Summer games during this long winter season, as I can almost feel the virtual sun on my face now! Get an early look at the first screenshots of Summer Games: Paradise Island thanks to GameSpy in the gallery below.

Game On! Celebrity Sports Showdown For the Wii

Coming this holiday season to the Nintendo Wii, a star-studded video game spectacle: Celebrity Sports Showdown! Celebs like Fergie, Nelly Furtado, Keith Urban, LeAnn Rimes, Sugar Ray Leonard, Kristi Yamaguchi, Paul Pierce, Reggie Bush, and Mia Hamm go head-to-head in games of fighter-jet racing, slalom skiing, inner-tubing, curling, canoeing and volleyball - Yes, that's Fergie (wearing a Tiara?) and Nelly getting physical in a game of dodgeball. Can't wait to get our hands on this one to take it for a test drive, but we're loving the fact that it will accommodate up to four players for multiplayer action. geeksugar's EA Sports Active 30 Day Challenge Begins!

Get ready, get set, because I've teamed up with the ladies over at Green Pixels for our 30 Day EA Sports Active challenge! I'm all warmed up after a some fun cardio and strength training exercises, and am excited to see what week two will bring.

Included in the EA Sports Active kit (which costs $57) is the Sports Active Wii disc, a leg strap which will hold the nunchuck in place while you hold the Wiimote, and a resistance band to increase the intensity of certain exercises like bicep curls and shoulder presses. To get started, I was able to create my very own personalized character, customize circuits based on my interest and fitness level and I even got some words of advice from my personal EA Sports Active trainer - Bob Green (as in Oprah's fitness guru Bob Green). This game not only provides you with various workout routines, but that it combines nutrition and lifestyle factors into your challenge as well! And if you have a Wii balance board, Sports Active is balance board compatible - which means you can decide whether you want to include it in your workouts (some days I use it, some days I don't).

Unlike Wii Fit (remember geeksugar's challenge last year?), this game is intended to get you moving and sweating with exercises like cardio boxing, volleyball, squat exercises, cardio dancing and more (tennis is one of my faves!). Let me tell you, the exercises got me sweating so the short cool downs after each workout were very much needed! The intensity you select will determine how long your workouts are (medium intensity routines can range from 25 - 40 minutes).
