YouTube Takes the Plunge Into Live Webcasting

Some days (when I have time), I'll get a pretty great ab workout from all the laughs I find on YouTube. Some of my friends think it's the best invention since Cheetos - and it looks like they're about to get even better. Not only is YouTube calling itself the "world's largest video discovery platform", but it's also dipping its toes into the pool of live webcasting; starting with their inaugural YouTube Live event taking place here in San Francisco on November 22.

The huge two hour webcast will host YouTube vets Katy Perry, Will.i.Am, Esmee Denters, along with performances by other well known YouTube users. Does the name Tay Zonday ring any bells? I thought so. But I'm betting the highlight of the evening will be going down at the post-show party somewhere around the Guitar Hero kiosks. Musicians and geeks in one room? You know there will be some serious shredding taking place!

Nokia to Webcast New Year's Parties Around The Globe

Don't have any News Year's Eve plans yet? Nokia announced MSN as the exclusive online distributor of the highly-anticipated Nokia New Year's Eve, a global music celebration which will take place in five party capitals of the world on December 31st.

Exclusive performances from international artists including the Black Eyed Peas, Scissor Sisters, Nelly Furtado, John Legend, and Atomic Kitten will be streamed live and on demand at no cost to viewers through a Nokia-branded experience at NokiaNewYearsEve.com.

Nokia New Year's Eve will bring viewers on a journey from east to west; starting in Hong Kong's Harbor City Ocean Terminal, followed by Mumbai's Andheri Stadium, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro and rounding off the night in New York. Each venue will feature a line-up of local and international musicians.

Other Nokia New Year's Eve content, including artist lists and updates, will also be available through Windows Live Messenger beginning today. A customized Windows Live Messenger tab will be integrated into every Windows Live Messenger application in the five host cities, where fans will be able to connect directly to the Nokia New Year's Eve site by clicking the tab.

I'm Going to YouTube Live! And Getting WiFi on a Jet Plane . . .

I've got quite the geeky day planned, and I had to share my excitement with guys! First, I'm packing my bags and heading to San Francisco International Airport to board a Virgin America plane - I'm not really going anywhere, per se, but the short flight will be showing off GoGo's new in-flight WiFi! Then afterward, drum roll please - I am hitting up the YouTube Live event!

At SFO, I'll board a Virgin Airlines plane - already my fave airline for its awesome techy features - and test out the in-flight Wifi on a special beta flight.

Afterward, it's off the to the YouTube Live Event, to celebrate YouTube's new webcasting feature, where I'll hopefully rub elbows with Will.i.am and Katy Perry, to name a few! Stay tuned for my recap on how it all turns out!

Oprah Upgrades to High Definition

Once in a while, I'll find some of my favorite TV shows (like American Idol) in HD and make sure to tape them on my DVR. . . . but when this does happen, it's a rare treat. Needless to say, I was overjoyed to hear that one of my all-time faves, the Oprah Winfrey show will be broadcasted in HD this Fall. "We’re pleased to offer viewers their favorite daytime talk show - the Oprah show - in stunning HD beginning this Fall," Harpo president Tim Bennett said. With Oprah already going high tech with the online Webcast on demand for A New Earth, this recent announcement doesn't surprise me at all!
