Try On Ray-Bans Virtually With the New Online Mirror

The trendy and hip sunglasses company Ray-Ban is attempting to make the sunglasses shopping experience a bit easier with their new Ray-Ban Virtual Mirror download. Using 3D technology, this cool tool is similar to the IBM Virtual Mirror since it allows you to try on the goods without needing to be in the store. Now there's no guarantee how accurate this new service is, but at least it will let you know if those black Audrey Hepburn glasses are going to look chic or just cover half your face.

IBM Debuts "Virtual Mirror" Kiosks For Hair and Makeup Help

Next week, IBM will be introducing their first ever "Virtual Mirror" kiosk at the National Retail Federation in NYC. What it does is take a digital photo (of the shopper) and scan in various makeup and hair coloring products that they may be interested in purchasing. Without having to actually try the makeup on you are guaranteed true colors and an accurate replica of your face. The EZ Face virtual mirror is already being used by Super-Pharm, one of the biggest drugstores in Israel, and will hit large US retailers sometime this year.

With virtual dressing rooms at a number of H&M stores and an Adidas shop in Paris utilizing virtual shopping mirrors, it's no surprise that this kind of technology is catching on. What do you think? Would you ever trust something like this to give you a precise makeup portrayal?

Trying On Shoes Made Easy At the Adidas Shop In Paris

First we discussed the virtual change room, then there was the virtual make-up simulator and now at the Adidas store in Paris, there are virtual shopping mirrors. Created for those shoppers that are, shall we say, lazy, these mirrors let you virtually try on shoes and see what they look like. You might not know if they are the perfect fit, but at least you get to try on hundreds of pairs! If you are wondering how this new technology works, the mirror takes a picture of the feet and legs of the customer. The images are then merged with shoes using 3-D image processing technology. What's great is this technology operates in real time, so the customer can prance around in their new virtual shoes.

Try on Eye Glasses Using Your Cell Phone

Remember when I talked about department stores getting high-tech by installing virtual mirrors and butt cameras? Well the eye glasses chain Megane Top in Japan is now offering "virtual fittings" by allowing shoppers to use their cell phones to try on glasses. To take part in this mobile fitting experience, customers need to upload a photo of themselves on their phone and then apply different glasses to their face using the store's server. The best part is the fact that you can browse pairs of glasses by using the store's mobile website. I don't know if I'd completely trust this method to decide on a pair of new specs, although I'm sure it would be fun to browse different styles on my phone! Thanks calamari! via Digital World Tokyo

Magic Mirror Mirror On The Wall

You are out doing a solo shopping spree and you find those cool retro chic jeans, but yet you don't have your stellar second opinion friend around to help you decide if they look as good as they feel. Now with the Magic Mirror created by IconNicholson, you can take pictures of each outfit you try on and send them to your friends via your cellphone! By working in real time, the magic mirror sends a live video feed via infrared to any cell phone, PDA or e-mail so that your friends can virtually be in the changing room with you! An added bonus? Two additional panels next to the Magic Mirror will display other items in the store and give suggestions for accessories. Still in its infancy, this concept design will have to convince stores of its beneficial uses. I can name at least one, it'll save me from way too many fashion disasters!
Thanks to Shiny Shiny and Tech Ticker.
