Vertu has long been one of the top names in luxury cell phones, but their most recent design may win the race against the competitors. The Vertu Ferrari phone, which is being sold by Nokia stores in London, Paris and Hong Kong, was designed in collaboration with Ferrari and costs a whopping $25,400. The release of the phone, which features a shift gate on its posterior, coincides with Ferrari's 60th anniversary.

Oh man, if you missed The Colbert Report the other night, I've got to fill you in on the details about this hilarious segment. Stephen started talking about Milton Pedraza, the CEO of the "Luxury Institute," who recommends a strategy of "stealth wealth" and "avoiding conspicuous consumption for a less flashy image" during this economic crisis. Stephen then goes on to say that he took Milton's advice of forgetting $10,000 mobile phones and picking up iPhones instead, so he decided to trade in his $310,000 Vertu cell phone for an iPhone and a land line (keep your eyes peeled for his blinged-out rotary phone!).

Day two of our Geeks We Love Valentine's series showcases someone who is certainly no stranger in the tech world (OK, well maybe he is somewhat of a stranger). You see, he is so "in the know" when it comes to industry info related to all things tech, that he runs a website under an assumed identity, Boy Genius. Boy Genius created The Boy Genius Report after becoming a crowd favorite within the circles of online mobile communities.

We've seen our fair share of luxurious car company inspired cell phones recently. There's the limited edition MOTORAZRmaxx V6 Ferrari Mobile phone, the $25,000 Ferrari Phone By Vertu and now, the Porsche P'9521 clamshell headset, which looks to be the most stunning design of all. The device is made out of sturdy aluminum and mineral glass and according to Crave, features a 3.2-megapixel camera with auto-focus and dual LED photo lights.

We drool, gawk and scoff at luxury gadgets nearly every day, but what if we suddenly had a much, much larger bank account? Would we be more likely to throw down on gold and diamond encrusted gizmos? PC World has put together a collection of The World's Most Extravagant Technology Products, which they aptly note are all "absurdly expensive," but some are "practical, some are pretentious, and some are preposterous."

With this week's news that all LG Prada phones will get free insurance I started thinking about those designer phones and when the line between regular, but functional phones and luxurious brand-name driven models will be drawn. As we know from the Vertu Ferrari phone that line clearly won't be drawn by car companies. Porsche has upped the market with the concept drawings for a Porsche P'9521 Phone, which makes the unlicensed Porsche Cayenne phone we saw a few months ago look just plain silly.
