TVs, PS3s, and Vaios in Yankee Stadium: Awesome or Weird?

One of my favorite activities in the Summer is heading-out to catch a baseball game! Although I may not know the ins and outs of the game, I go for the fun of it (and for a hot dog or two). But now, fans have even more reasons to head to the ball park this season: Sony recently announced that they have sealed a deal with the Yankees to pimp out their stadium with over 550 Bravia flat panel TVs, along with tons of Playstation 3s and Vaio computers to play with in select locations around the stadium.

I totally get the purpose of the TVs - cause I've often wished there was a way to watch the game while in line at the snack bar - but PS3s and Vaios? I'm not sure I understand the relevance of these at a sports stadium. MLB Playoffs before the game perhaps?

John Mayer Bats For Both Teams: Apple and Sony

MacBook Air? What MacBook Air? John Mayer must have cured his Apple addiction because he's now the poster-boy for Sony - appearing in a Sony Vaio ad in the latest issue of Wired. Maybe I'm just blind to the fact that he's got a ton of tech-company connections, including RIM with all of his BlackBerry hook-ups. But all in all, I guess everyone wins in this situation - Apple gets free publicity for their hot new gadgets, Sony pays Mayer oodles of cash to splash his face all over their ads, and Mayer gets all the latest tech toys he can handle.

Waterproof Laptop: Necessity or Novelty?

I've certainly had my fair share of spills and accidents on my laptop and computer keyboard. Thankfully companies like Sony Japan are realizing that a simple coffee and tea break can turn into a disaster if your laptop were to get spilled on. Featured on Gearfuse, this VAIO type G notebook uses a built-in drainage system to protect your laptop from liquid. In the event of a spill, it will automatically turn off-although I'm curious to know whether this will prevent electrical shortages and corrosion. The LCD screen is also said to withstand scratches, making this laptop quite the durable little gadget. The G notebooks are set to go on sale October 6th in Japan with a price tag of $1500 and upwards, depending on personal customization. While a good investment for travelers and people who work outdoors, it may not be for everyone. Would you pay a premium for a waterproof laptop? Waterproof laptop: necessity or novelty? Sony Thinks Pink In The Name of Cancer Prevention

There's a rift between pink gadget lovers and haters. Most of us hate when manufacturers use rosy hues in a lame, 18th Century attempt at attracting attention from females, but then again, some pink gadgets are just plain cute.

Pink also happens to be the color of Breast Cancer Awareness and as the official Breast Cancer Awareness Month approaches, retailers across the country, including Sony VAIO, are joining the fight to find a cure for breast cancer by creating special editions of some of their bestselling products.

This October, Sony VAIO will donate $100,000 from the proceeds of a limited time Sony VAIO pink bundle that includes a VAIO Pink CR Series notebook accompanied by a pink mouse and pink carrying case. The laptop is $1,250 and is available on SonyStyle.com and Sony Style stores. It also happens to be the same computer Daniel Craig used as James Bond in Casino Royale. Of course, his was a little more camouflaged.

Sony Introduces New Mini Netbook, the VAIO W

Just a couple weeks after announcing its affordable VAIO NW-series notebook, Sony has taken the wraps off of a new laptop, and this time, it's mini. The new VAIO W-series notebook has a 10.1-inch ultrawide display, 160GB hard drive, a built-in webcam, multimedia-streaming technology, and comes in pink, brown, and white. The VAIO W will be available next month, but you can preorder it now - and the price tag ain't too shabby either at about $500.

Sony Debuts movieIQ on Blu-ray Discs and the VAIO NW

Yesterday I attended a Sony media event here in San Francisco where three major announcements were made. The first - which caught my attention - is the 400-disc Blu-ray player Sony plans on unveiling in the near future - that's right, 400 discs . . . who has that many discs anyway?! We also learned about the new (only $880) Sony VAIO NW notebook, which comes fully equipped with Blu-ray disc technology, so you can watch crisp and clear movies from the convenience of your laptop. The laptop is the lightest of its kind, offers a 15.5-inch widescreen display, an HDMI output connector, and it features Sony's XBRITE-ECO LCD technology. This laptop will be available this month in brown, white, and silver.

And last, but not least, was the movieIQ announcement. MovieIQ is a handy feature, powered by Gracenote that gives you real-time info about the movie you're viewing. So for things like insider info, trivia, music or actor details, scene location and more, any movieIQ-enabled Blu-ray Disc will provide these interesting tidbits for you, right while you're watching the movie. And because it's connected to the Internet, the information is constantly updated and accurate (so you don't have to do a Google search to make sure it's legit). MovieIQ will start appearing on major movie titles like Angels & Demons (yay!), Punch Drunk Love, and Easy Rider this September.

Found: John Connor's Handy Mobile Computer

In the future . . . you must carry an Ultra Mobile PC! Even after "Judgment Day," it's good to see that the Resistance can still get their hands on some hot gadgets to fight the good fight. I saw Terminator: Salvation last week and was happy to see the Sony Vaio UX ($2500) make a cameo just as John Connor rushes to save the world (don't worry, I won't reveal any spoilers!).

Hitting the scene at CES back in 2007, the Vaio UX is not a smartphone - it's a micro computer. It's built with a solid-state drive, Bluetooth, GPS, Wide Area Network 5 (WAN5) technology (to get a wireless signal faster and farther), USB 2.0 ports, and two cameras designed to make video conferencing easy while on the go (or, in this case, on the run).

I was hoping to find a picture of this bad boy in full cinema action, but no dice. I guess you'll just have to go see it in theaters for yourselves!

Sony Vaio P Rebate: Awesome or Not Enough?

I've been all over the Sony Vaio P since its unveiling at CES this year. It's hot, but I do have my qualms. First off is the price. I know Sony's been telling us not to call it a netbook, but seriously after taking in the size, weight, and specs, the resemblance is there. Why its price starts at hundreds more than other ultra portables in its class is beyond me. So when Sony rolled out a $200 rebate on the Vaio P series notebook yesterday, I admit I was a bit surprised.

Yup, Sony is already slashing the price of the Vaio P, and it hasn't even hit the shelves yet! But as you may have thought, there is a catch: the rebate is given exclusively through Verizon when you sign up for a two year mobile-broadband subscription, you know, since that is the only network you can get your speedy 3G access from. This rebate will most likely cover (or partially cover) the cost of your broadband subscription through Verizon.
