Colorful Corega Speaker Dock For iPod Shuffle

For those of you who liked the Cuby Speaker that I posted last week, here's another portable iPod Shuffle speaker with a few more features. Corega Japan has just come out with these tantalizing mini boombox docks that deliver quality output from their built-in speakers. While playing your tunes, you can connect the dock to your laptop or computer via the included USB port- therefore charging and transferring songs all at the same time. Featured on mobile magazine, the Corega CG-IPSPDC02 is powered with 2 AA batteries and comes in the same five colors as the Shuffle. These speakers are set to hit stores in Japan later this month with a price tag of $30.

The USB Travel Dock won’t interfere with any adjacent cables, so you can prominently display your new 2G iPod shuffle right next to your laptop screen. It has a blue "Power on" LED indicator. I wouldn't say it's a gadget you have to have, but it's useful and saves space, which is always appreciated.

Note: My shuffle is wearing a Mophie Shuffle cover, which I actually haven't taken off since I put it on. Just wanted to make sure you knew it's not part of the USB charger.

Would You Stay at a Hotel That Wasn't Tech-Friendly?

Hearing the story of someone forced to charge their gadgets in a hotel bathroom makes me shudder. And a little angry, honestly.

The offender, a Sheraton hotel in Philadelphia, didn't provide any outlets in the entire hotel room, forcing the guest to plug in laptop and phone in the loo.

The obvious danger of the proximity to water, added to the huge inconvenience of something I consider so important, would compel me to pack up, check out, and find another hotel that could accommodate me. Sure, I'm a gadget freak, but aren't we all traveling with technology these days? I hate when I can't get free WiFi (or WiFi at all) in a hotel, and I think it's time they conformed - especially considering that over 80 percent of you said you were interested in tech-packed hotels.

But video game console amenities and iPod docks aside, what are your priorities when traveling? Would you stay in a hotel that wasn't tech-friendly?

The Portable Cuby Speaker For Your Shuffle

It's not everyday I see a speaker dock made for a shuffle. So when I saw this new "Cuby" dock on Fareastgizmos I was instantly intrigued. It was made for second generation shuffles and connects via the headphone jack or to your computer via a USB cable. Each dock comes with speakers built-in on both sides and can play continuously for five hours with three AA batteries. And the sound quality is pretty good, considering the small size of the Cuby. I'd say it would make the perfect portable speaker when traveling or when on-the-go. Priced around $33 and will be available for purchase this July.

Laptop vs. Desktop: Where Do You Sit?

I haven't purchased a desktop in the past ten years. Considering how much I love to travel and the type of work I do I can't imagine having to sit in the same place every time I use the computer. Still, I completely understand that some people need the added memory and "power" of a desktop. That being said, the popularity of wireless Internet, docking stations and affordable laptops have made this a very portable world. Think I'm kidding? According to a recent Los Angeles Times article, "In the contest between PCs and laptops, an open-and-shut case," last year, for the first time, American consumers bought more of them than desktops. Sixteen of the twenty bestselling PCs on Amazon.com this holiday season were laptops. So where do you sit?

For those who are iPod shuffle owners, I've got another great travel accessory for you!

Brando has just come out with these colorful USB adaptors that connect to 2G shuffles so you don't have to use the standard docking station. They are super tiny and can quickly charge your shuffle or transfer songs from iTunes.

Available colors include white, black, blue, green and red and they cost $7 each.

Griffin's Journi Speaker Has Travel Potential

Some folks from Griffin stopped by our office during their recent PR tour and let us play with their new line of speakers. While the others may offer better sound (don't worry, I'll share those reviews with you soon), I was charmed by the journi's tiny, portable "classy boombox" qualities. They call it a "personal mobile speaker," which is just what it is. Close up the speaker looks like a clutch, but opened up it folds into a lightweight pyramid of sound. According to the reps, the battery works for up to 10 hours, so you can take the little speaker traveling, to a picnic or at your desk (they didn't let me play with it for that long so I can't stand by that claim!). If it doesn't last 10 hours it is powered by internal Lithium-Ion batteries, which can recharge with the included AC adapter or through your computer's powered USB port.

To work it you just slide your iPod into the dock (it works with other MP3 players as well) and spin a wheel to adjust the "wrapstand" around your player and hit play on your iPod or the remote. The wrapstand means the speaker works just as well with the mini or nano as it does the regular size iPod and it won't shift around in your bag.

Features: Apparently, two 50mm high/mid-range drivers and two 64mm passive radiators use SRS WOW digital technology to expand the audio image and sound of the journi speaker. The battery works 8-10 hours of play on a single charge via AC adapter or powered USB port and the device syncs your iPod with your computer's iTunes library as it charges.
