Remember back in May, when David Archuleta and David Cook of American Idol rocked out in their tighty-whities to Old Time Rock N' Roll for Guitar Hero? Well Activision Publishing is back in full force with their latest installment of their "Risky Business"-inspired Guitar Hero ads; a new commercial for Guitar Hero World Tour, which hits stores today. Directed by Brett Ratner, the commercial features big sports stars jamming - like Kobe Bryant (on the mic), Tony Hawk (on the drums) and Michael Phelps and Alex Rodriguez (on the guitar). A must see indeed!

T-Mobile Launches a Tony Hawk Sidekick LX

It has been over a year since the Dwayne Wade Sidekick 3 was released, and now another famous athlete is getting in on the smartphone action. Set to come out this July is the silver metallic Tony Hawk limited-edition Sidekick LX.

Designed by Tony Hawk through-and-through, the Sidekick LX will be the first Sidekick to feature video record, play and share capabilities. It will also include an alarm clock, a high-def LCD screen, stereo Bluetooth functionality, plus all the other standard Sidekick goodies like web browsing, IM, email, and a QWERTY keyboard.

"I’ve been a loyal Sidekick user since the first model that launched back in 2002. . . I use my Sidekick for everything from staying connected to friends to keeping my hectic schedule on track," said Tony Hawk. "I’m excited to be collaborating with T-Mobile to create a brand new, custom Sidekick LX that will represent action sports, as well as my own style.”

Pricing info hasn't been released yet, but stay tuned in the upcoming weeks for purchasing details.

Local Experts Show Off Their Favorite Places on Google Maps

Google Maps has just announced a new feature called Favorite Places where users can select either the global or local option to see what trendsetters and local experts select as their favorite places and businesses. Google is using this new project as a way to bring attention to local businesses while encouraging those without websites to get online. As much as I like to think I already have my list of personal city faves, I absolutely love this feature because it opens up so many new options for me and you can see a gallery of photos from the location! Additionally, if you're planning a trip, you can find out where the best snowboarding locations are (suggested by Tony Hawk), or see where Al Gore and his family like to vacation.

Jesper Video Game Playing Chair: Love It or Leave It?

Everyone sits a little differently when they're playing video games - different, at least, from how they sit while watching TV. Is it any surprise then, that someone would make a seat for video game play?

This is Ikea's new Jesper Bench ($70), which is a brilliant idea (much better than those decor-unfriendly and juvenile low seats from the '90s), but when you see someone on it, using it for how it's supposed to be used. . . well, you see the problem.

I don't know that I'd want to look like I was riding a racehorse while playing Tony Hawk. The simple looks of it are great, the intent wonderful, but the result. . . I just do not know.

What do you think? Would you ride, I mean, sit on this while playing video games?

Yeah, this is exactly how I rock out with Guitar Hero, too.

Does Advertising in Video Games Bother You?

My usual reaction to advertisements entering my entertainment is one of disdain - that is why I bought a TiVo, after all. But sometimes I have to give credit where credit is due, and video-game advertising is one place where ads manage to be unobtrusive. Much like product placement, which can be annoying, but can also add to the setting (think skating past an old sign on Tony Hawk), if it's done right.

Hearing that Sony has decided to add online-enabled advertising to its PlayStation 3, I'm a little apprehensive - but, if they can manage to do ads that don't scream "Buy me! Buy me!," then I see nothing wrong with the ad industry tapping this market.

How do you generally feel about ads you see in video games?

Ashlee Simpson's Guilty Tech Pleasures: Her BlackBerry and Electric Toothbrush

Pop rock singer Ashlee Simpson recently caught up with AOL's Switched to talk about all things tech. . . Including her love for her BlackBerry Curve and how she can't wait to get an iPod touch- If Mayer can get an Air, Simpson can surely get a Touch! Here are some of the highlights from the interview:

On what gadgets she takes with her during her down time (tapings, appearances, etc): "My iPod, knitting needles, and yarn."
The cell phone she has right now and what she loves or hates about it: "The BlackBerry Curve - I love the camera feature."
The longest time she had ever spent playing a video game in one sitting and what it was: "I played Tony Hawk for 75 hours."
On whether she's a Mac or a PC girl and why: "Mac - it's more user-friendly."
