Sad About BSG Being Over? So Is the President

You know, I thought something was off. I've noticed that President Obama's eyes haven't had quite the same sparkle for the past few weeks, and The Onion finally tells us why: Battlestar Galactica is over.

Apparently, the President was a huge BSG fan and has recently blown off daily routines and has shown signs of depression! A staffer for Mr. Obama gives us the inside scoop:

He no longer cares if he lets himself go "just like Lee did before the rescue on New Caprica," and has told aides he feels "like a cylon without a Resurrection Ship."

Ahh, Mr. President, I feel your pain. My Friday nights also feel a little colder. We can get through it together buddy. Yes we can.

Source

The Onion Wonders if Violent Video Games Are Violent Enough

Their true benefit, of course, is preparing kids for the coming apocalypse. But are they violent enough, The Onion wonders?

Jocose Gift Boxes Give Impression of Geek Gift

Looking for a holiday gift for a geek you don't really like?

The goofsters at The Onion have created the perfect packaging. These Wrap Your Crappy Gift In A Box To Remember (a set of six is $29) suggest you are giving the ultimate selection of unmatched geek items - a USB Toaster, iFeast (yep, that's a dog feeder), KleenStride, Visorganizer, Peaceful Progression Smoke Alarm and an Auto Power Strip.

If you only want to commit to one you can buy the boxes separately for $8. It's a lot funnier than wrapping a USB stick in an iPhone box. That's just cruisin' for a bruisin'.

Geek Gag: Microsoft Ads Crash TVs!

You thought there'd be no fallout from those new "I'm a PC" commercials? Think again. Gates will blue screen your home TV!

And you thought the Seinfeld ads were bad . . .

Yelp Gets a Rival in the Decider, Courtesy of the Onion

I'm a longtime Yelp user, but lately things are getting a little crowded and messy in there. But it looks like I'll have options pretty soon: The Onion (yes, that Onion) is launching a new website for users to rate businesses, called Decider. It's not satirical, like its founder, but sincere, much like the AV Club.

So far, the only city Decider is in is Chicago, but they are planning to open it up for other cities soon, and so far, I'm a fan. The layout is clean and is sort of a hybrid of Yelp and CitySearch, employing the former's social networking and user ratings, and the latter's more formal elements, such as the editorial descriptions of businesses before the reviews.

I'm not taking sides; I can be a Yelper and a Decider - they just better get to San Francisco quick!

Play a Character Playing a Character in World of World of Warcraft!

What if you could play an avatar playing an avatar in World of World of Warcraft? Check out the video and see if the metaness doesn't make your head explode.

Blockbuster Moves Into the History Books

When I'm an old lady, I look forward to telling my grandkids stories of what they will surely not be able to wrap their heads around: The time before the Internet. Yes, darlings, I'll tell them, we once had to be at home to place phone calls, you had to break up with your boyfriend face to face, and you were forced to watch commercials. And we - yes, I swear - we had to go into a "video store" and pay to own the movies for a couple days at a time, and get this - return to the store later to give them back. This is the premise for this satiric video from (who else?) The Onion, where a tour group visits a defunct Blockbuster store to experience the rich history of pre-Netflix and iTunes times.

The Best Tech Headline From the Onion, Ever

Basically The Onion will never be able to top this headline, or the story for that matter - tech news-wise, anyway. It doesn't matter how geeky you are, we've all had moments with our computers where we also can't get the thing to do the thing (this is exactly the kind of situation I had in mind when we talked about gadget rage).

And of course, there's a very close tech headline runner up - "Apple Unveils New Product-Unveiling Product." The insides, they hurt!

This Just In: Spy Satellite Aimed at an Area Man's TV

Put on your headphones and listen to this goofy gem from the only news source that doesn't stress me out, The Onion. Find out why North Korean spy satellites have been trained on an Idaho man's wide-screen TV from The Onion's radio news reporter, the reliable and old school Doyle Redland. If hearing about Kim Jong-il's cable TV predilections doesn't make you laugh, then I can't help you. Need to take the edge off a little more? Just peruse the front page of The Onion's online issue!
Website of the Day: The Onion

The Onion is one of the few sites on the internet that consistently delivers laughs, witty stories and relevant political assertions hidden in dorky and outrageous videos (aside from gigglesugar of course). In case you haven't run across it before, the site uses the tagline "America's Finest Newsource" and has done for newspapers and online magazines what the "Daily Show with John Stewart" and "The Colbert Report" do for television news.

The site features faux news from all genres including politics, science, entertainment and of course, my favorite, technology news like the hilarious fake iPhone ad. It also keeps us up to date with items like the the parody news video about a global internet crash and a whole barrel of laughs on gigglesugar. My most recent laugh fest came from the site's fake story about Google launching 'The Google' for older adults." How does google for adults work? "All you have to do to turn the website on is put the little blinking line thing in the cyberspace window at the top of the screen, type 'thegoogle.com,' and press 'return'-although it will also recognize http.wwwthegoogle.com, google.aol, and 'THEGOOGLE' typed into a Word document." Har. Har.

To learn how to post your favorite sites to the Website of the Day group, read more

I know that this long list looks scary, but trust me, once you get the hang of it, it'll be a snap the second time around.

First of all, join the Website of the Day group

Click "Create and Share!" on the left hand side

Choose "Blog"

Give your photo a Title

Leave the category as "general"

Change the channel to "technology and gadgets"

Add keyword(s) (for example mine for this photo was "Website of the Day")

Click on the "Add Image" link below the "body" box

A popup window will happen - click on "Browse" to find your image on your computer

Once you have the image chosen, click "Submit"

The popup will show you your image, choose size: "normal" - if you want, you can give it a title (which will show up as a caption)

Click "Insert" and the popup will go away

Your "body" box will now have some text in it. Leave it as is. If you want to add some text before the picture telling me why you love the website, do it before the code that has appeared.

Click Submit

So join the Website of the Day group and share information about all your favorite sites! Yours just might end up on the geeksugar homepage!
