Telephone Earrings: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

Geek jewelry is a delicate thing; it's so easy to take it from cute and fun to dangerously silly.

I'm not totally sure that these Telephone Earrings ($10) fit into that category - they are pretty freakin' cute (and being landline style, getting into the realm of vintage geek), but would I wear them to meet my boyfriend's mother? Dilemma!

Though North now spends my mini vacays at Pet Camp or Wag Hotel, when I lived in NYC, I'd usually just bring him up to my parents' house to stay with Gamma and Gampa. The first time I left him was on a long trip to London, and I called often (and I mean often) to check up.

One day my mother put me on speakerphone to talk directly to North – I guess my silly pup ran all around the room from the phone and to the door looking for me! I haven't had the chance to try it since then, have you? If so, how do your furry friends react to familiar voices coming from the speaker?

Anyone else love the convenience of their cell phone but secretly think it's really romantic to have had to sit at a designated telephone chair and then talk to the local switchboard operator about whom you needed to phone?

OK, yeah, so I guess speed-dialing and visual voice mail is pretty great too. I really wouldn't give it up, but I will be laying my head on this old school Telephone Pillow ($29) from West Elm. And making "BRRRING BRRING" noises and asking Alice to connect me to Mrs. Ada Stevenson in Murray Hill.

I recently read an article on CrunchGear exposing a website called Frill Free Phones, which sells rotary phones for upwards of $100! This got me thinking... if people are willing to drop $600 for the iPhone which comes fully-equipped with plenty of bells and whistles, why would anyone in their right mind spend over $100 for an old-fashioned phone that doesn't even have call display! Do tell...what's all the fuss about retro telephones? Do they bring sexyback in a way I don't understand? Or is it because they are antiques? Jessica Alba, and best friend Kelly Sawyer, stopped by NYC's Kirna Zabete boutique yesterday for some light holiday shopping. Inside the store Jessica tried on a pair of boots and browsed through the jewelry case. Jessica and Kelly arrived in the Big Apple on Tuesday prior to her participation in yesterday's Charity Day held in Jersey City, NJ. She answered telephones at ICAP's North American headquarters to raise donations for an organization near and dear to her, Baby2Baby. It's Jessica's second event for the children's charity in less than a month after she joined Jennifer Hudson at Rodeo Drive's Swarovski Elements lighting ceremony in late November. Following their philanthropic duties the gals headed back to Manhattan where Kelly and Jessica grabbed a quick dinner at SoHo's Cafe Habana before catching a returning flight to LA.
