Sony VAIO Arabesque Arrives in Time For the Holidays

Colors of silver and gold always bring back memories of my younger days watching Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer, but instead of wanting an Easy Bake Oven this holiday, I'm wishing that Santa would slip the Sony VAIO LE Arabesque ($969) under the tree. I've been good, right?

Coming in gold and black, the VAIO Arabesque screams luxury with its textured design. But it's not all looks - this portable laptop is stocked with a nice 500GB hard drive, a crisp 14-inch LED display, a Blu-ray player, HDMI out, and of course a built-in camera so you can video chat with far away friends and family. The only downside? The battery life is pretty low at just over three hours, but you can opt for a larger pack that gets you five hours of juice. Martha Stewart - gadget fan? Seems so! Not only is Martha Stewart the home-ec queen of daytime television, but she's making her foray into video game development, and last night, took some time out to discuss her gadget preferences on Twitter.

Besides keeping her Canon G11 PowerShot close at hand as she did during a recent visit to the Tribeca Film Festival, Martha uses her BlackBerry to stay on top of her emails and appointments, while her Sony Vaio gets most of her attention while she's being worked over in hair and makeup.

You think Martha is rocking a new Sony Vaio W? I wonder what color she'd choose . . .

Sony Gives Its Vaio P Series an Update

Just when you thought it was safe to buy a new netbook, Sony releases an update to its Vaio P series! Announced earlier today, Sony has added a few new features onto its long and lean 8-inch portable notebook, like an accelerometer (to rotate the screen and read websites, PDFs, and ebooks length-wise) and a touchpad right on the screen's bezel to navigate websites and documents without using the keyboard (though the regular pointing stick will still be on board). Sony says this new design will allow geeks to hold their notebooks with two hands and easily compute while walking or standing. However, I'm not sure that I'm on board with toting your notebook around while cruising your hood.

The Vaio P also got an updated color palette for Spring, ranging from cool white and black to a neon pink, green, and orange, along with new hot keys to quickly adjust the screen's resolution and launch Internet Explorer. Coming with 2GB of memory, 64GB hard drive, five hours of battery life, GPS, and PS3 streaming capabilities, it seems like a great competitor to other portable laptops on the market. Of course, as in true Sony Vaio tradition, the price tag may make you think twice about buying - the new Vaio P series will set you back $800. No US launch date details yet, but they'll be available in the UK starting in June.

Sony Introduces New Mini Netbook, the VAIO W

Just a couple weeks after announcing its affordable VAIO NW-series notebook, Sony has taken the wraps off of a new laptop, and this time, it's mini. The new VAIO W-series notebook has a 10.1-inch ultrawide display, 160GB hard drive, a built-in webcam, multimedia-streaming technology, and comes in pink, brown, and white. The VAIO W will be available next month, but you can preorder it now - and the price tag ain't too shabby either at about $500.

Sony Vaio P Rebate: Awesome or Not Enough?

I've been all over the Sony Vaio P since its unveiling at CES this year. It's hot, but I do have my qualms. First off is the price. I know Sony's been telling us not to call it a netbook, but seriously after taking in the size, weight, and specs, the resemblance is there. Why its price starts at hundreds more than other ultra portables in its class is beyond me. So when Sony rolled out a $200 rebate on the Vaio P series notebook yesterday, I admit I was a bit surprised.

Yup, Sony is already slashing the price of the Vaio P, and it hasn't even hit the shelves yet! But as you may have thought, there is a catch: the rebate is given exclusively through Verizon when you sign up for a two year mobile-broadband subscription, you know, since that is the only network you can get your speedy 3G access from. This rebate will most likely cover (or partially cover) the cost of your broadband subscription through Verizon.
