Girl Skateboard Epitomizes iPhone + Skating Nightmare

No, no one ever wants to see a cracked iPhone, but I can't help but think that it would be a badge of honor to a skateboarder (albeit a very expensive badge of honor). The deck's maker, Girl, also has extra cred: one of the founders is the crazy talented Spike Jonze!

Skateboard Speaker Shelf: Love It or Leave It?

It comes with two built-in speakers, easy-mount French cleats, and a dock that’s compatible with most iPods. The models definitely rids the Smart Tech line of its "understated and hidden" reputation, but I imagine they'd be pretty cute in a child's room.
Skate 2 Review: Frustrating, Then Totally Addictive

The first time I popped open my copy of Skate 2, I knew I was in for a different kind of skating game. Not only are you able to get a crash course in boarding trickery at the local skate park, but you can also roam free around the city of New San Vanelona - jumping curbs, popping ollies, accepting challenges and running from the police Burnout Paradise style. I later found that Skate 2 kept me entertained, but at times it would make me oh-so-frustrated.

Skate 2 starts with you getting released from prison. Your friend Al picks you up and immediately takes you to Slappy's skate park to reclaim your place at the top of the skateboarding food chain. If you played the first installment of Skate (I didn't), you'll find that your city has been taken over and "rebuilt" by a mega-corporation and all your old favorite skating spots have been deemed useless. Plus, the police take skateboarding seriously and if you're caught skating on public property, you might get pinched if you aren't quick.

There are many things I liked about Skate 2, and some things that had me cursing the skating gods. To see what I mean, read more.

In Skate 2's career mode, you are climbing your way back to being the best skater in San Vanelona and reclaiming the city for your comrades. Doing so involves taking on different challenges from other skaters, racking up high scoring tricks, and participating in magazine photo shoots. All of this is easy peasy if you get the moves down. And that's a big if.

So when I tell you that learning the tricks in the game can be frustrating, it's only because I was sloppy at my timing or my control combos. It's funny cause I've seen kids around my old neighborhood doing these exact tricks, so I feel like it should be easy, but it's not. Just like in real life, if you aren't popping your board at the right second, you fail. You either land (hard) on your rear, or you just simply jump off your deck. But once you get it, it's really, really fun. Plus, there's a cool feature in Skate 2 that allows you to mark the beginning of your trick so that if you fail (which will probably be often), you can go back to that spot and try, try again.

Exploring the city is awesome since almost anything you see is "skateable", and you can engage in different challenges along the way to increase your score. You are also super strong (must have been all those gym hours in the Big House) and can move almost any object with ease to make your own little skating heaven anywhere you find a spot. But watch out for the police - those dudes are everywhere. Overall, Skate 2 is entertaining, engaging, and addictive. Even at my most frustrated times, I just wanted to keep going so that I could learn just one more trick. Although I could do without the citizens of San Vanelona getting in my way when I'm trying to race (Hello? I'm trying to race here), but I suppose that is how it would be if I were a real life skating bad ass, which will probably never happen.

Skate 2 is available today on your XBox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles.

Source

Rob and Big Will Call You Out For Blogging on "The 'Space"

What they do have in common, though, is the frequent mention and featuring of gadgets and tech. The boys have an in-home ATM, a net gun, and spend plenty of time on their Macs and on the internet and "The 'Space" (from now on, this is all I will call MySpace).

This week's episode had Big organizing a dating game for Rob with some lovely ladies from the 'Space, and after one date, Rob discovers his date blogged about his kissing style! The phone-call scene afterward consists of the funniest you're-a-blogger-no-I'm-not confrontation ever - I had to hook you up with it in case you missed it!

If designer Kristian Paljasma has her way the Electro Belt will be the next big thing in geek gear.

It’s a belt with an MP3 player built into the buckle. You keep it charged and synced via USB. Of course, the belt itself can be customized with different face plates that illuminate while you’re listening to your tunes.

While I can't see this being an overwhelming hit with your average geeky girl, I do envision young men, skateboarders and snowboarders would love a device that combines a little flash, with all the function of an MP3 Player, particularly if it can sync with the solar panel jacket or io-Jacket, which has built in mobile-phone and GPS. I mean, once you have one piece, you're going to want the whole outfit, right?

Bevy Shuffle Case - Also A Bottle Opener And Keychain

Mophie's new novelty iPod case, The Bevy is the first accessory to be released from its much talked about Illuminator project and chances are, every beer adoring shuffle lover is gonna need one. Made of clear polycarbonate with a stainless steel insert, The Bevy was designed to make the tiny second generation shuffle a little more functional. It has special grooves to wrap your headphones, is a keychain and best of all will open your favorite beer or, if you're underage, exotic bottled soda.

The design of The Bevy, which is known as the Illuminator project, was created at the Mophie booth at this year's Macworld. Apparently, over the four-day period the 30,000 plus attendees were invited to doodle a product concept that enhanced any of the new apple products. The winning design was created by Jared Fiovorich, a 17-year-old student and skateboarder from Santa Cruz, California. While Fiovorich may be too young to legally enjoy some of the case's features, something tells me it's just kitschy enough to be a hit (or is that "key-schy?). You can get your own in green, blue, pink, orange or silver for $15. For a gallery of The Bevy in action, read more
