Uh, I know I said I "loved" robots, but I meant that in a totally platonic way. I swear I don't want to marry, move in with, or make out with robots!
The models in Marie Claire Italia, on the other hand, are feeling pretty amorous toward the cold little guys, as evidenced by the geek-sexy photo shoot spotted, thankfully, by Boing Boing. I may not go for a robot boyfriend, but slick hair and sexy silver jumpsuits? New geeksugar uniform.

Do You View "Not Safe For Work" Content at the Office?

Earlier this week USA Today featured an article about how "Technology makes porn easier to access at work" and while that seems like a no-brainer, I was struck by how many companies have gone so far as to install devices to block porn and risqué websites on their office supplied computers and portable devices. According to the article, 65 percent of US companies used software to block workers' access to inappropriate websites in 2005. Why have companies set it up? According to USA Today:

About 16% of men who have access to the Internet at work acknowledged having seen porn while on the job, according to a survey for Websense by Harris Interactive in 2006. Eight percent of women said they had. But of those who acknowledged viewing porn sites at work, only 6% of men and 5% of women acknowledged that they had done so intentionally.

The issue of blocking access is especially relevant when it comes to portable wireless devices like laptops and smartphones like the iPhone, which offer easy and seemingly private web access. While I fully understand many of the sites people cruise during the workday could fall into the "Not Safe For Work" (or NSFW) category, I can't imagine accessing porn on my work computer. Am I alone here? Do you intentionally view content you know is NSFW in the office?

Call Me Panties: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

We've seen our fair share of geeky underwear, but the Call Me Panty seems to be aimed at the woman that already has the OhMiBod and a collection of other "sexy geek" items. I have to agree with Techie Diva and say it's hard not to sound a little appalled when talking about it. The panties ship in a heart shaped box with a mock cellphone in the pocket and tiny gift bow. The idea is you can put your phone in the panties front pocket and turn the ringer off. If you catch my drift. Is this geeky, geek chic or just a poor attempt at sexy?

The gadget world is near infinite. From grandiose media chairs, $150,000 speakers to ankle strap ons - no idea is too bizarre, geeky or cutting edge. But what about all those geeky items with a sexy twist? You may have been worried I was ignoring them, and to be fair I kind of was, but enough of you have asked about all the sexy gadgets and gizmos I've found while searching the internet and I decided it was high time I share the goodies.

I was initiated into the OhMiBod universe at this year's Macworld, when an attendee admitted she was heartbroken they weren't selling it on the exhibit floor. I was shocked, intrigued and mortified all at once. What is the OhMiBod you wonder? It's described as a "new generation of vibrator that combines elegance of design with the excitement of your favorite music." An integrated microchip allows the OhMiBod to vibrate to the beat and rhythm of the music playing on your iPod/MP3 player while you listen and "enjoy." As the girl says in the video it's a must have. The first thing I did when I came across the iBoxer was instant message the link to a couple of my guy friends. The responses were: "oh, no, that's just an iPod in my boxers," "they don't look big enough" - still not sure about that one - "what are those for working out in your underwear?" and "maybe if they added a toaster, I could make some pop-tarts while listening to my iTunes." It may not be the most practical of the sexy geek items, but I wouldn't mind if my honey turned it into his iPod uniform. ($22)

In my humble opinion, there is nothing more ridiculous than the iAttire iPod Negligee. It's quite simply, a mini lingerie number for your iPod. I can't see a reason why you would need this, but if you love your iPod enough and you really want to dress her up, I guess this is how to do it. ($23.99)

If your relationship is centered around humor (and really, whose isn't?) consider getting her something light and humorous. I know Think Geek's HTTPanties aren't everyone's style, but I would certainly get a great laugh out of them. If you've ever run across a "403 Forbidden" error on a web site, it means you've either stumbled onto the wrong page, or you've been snooping where you shouldn't be...aren't these panties on track? So the I Heart My Geek shirt is a little more subtle than sexy, but I think it's amazingly cute. What better way to be sexy than to announce to the world that you love your geek and you don't care who knows it? ($17.99)

Totally Geeky or Geek Chic? Sexy Cell Phone Charm

There are some accessories that really do make me feel sexy - new cute heels, a sleek clutch, even new gadgets - but the Sexy Underwear Cell Phone Strap from Strapyaworld are a little more than I can handle. The ad promises the miniature panties are "tiny but quite tempting" and will "catch all attentions!" I say that's not the kind of "attentions" any gal needs while talking on her phone. On the whole it can be pretty hard to find Chic Cell Phone Bling that doesn't scream tacky or make you feel like you need a membership card to the Hello Kitty fanclub, so I say these lingerie-inspired ribbons are, well, off the charts. What do you think?

A Circuit Board Eyeglasses/ID Holder That Is Such a Geek Treat

I think this creation of geeky goodness, tops my list for ways to reuse old circuit boards. Etsy seller DebbyAremDesigns got really resourceful when piecing together this one of a kind recycled circuit board ID badge/eyeglass holder (which I'm naturally calling a necklace - hee hee). The artist says:

A funky badge holder made from recycled vintage circuit boards, vintage lucite and glass beads from the 1950's as well as recycled colored "bell" telephone wire from the 1950's! I've also taken very old capacitors from the 1940's and repurposed them into additional decorative components.

I just love how every piece is so unique and different - not to mention, the colorful beads and wire which make it all come together so nicely! Now if only I had to wear a badge at work, I'd be one sexy geek! You can purchase one online for $67.

Tech Dating 101: Decoding Post-Date Texts and IMs

The men of Swingers championed a rule that fundamentally changed how fellas of the '90s plotted post-date communication. They said a man should wait three days after a date to call a woman so she would want them more. Preposterous, right? Today the possibilities for contact are so varied - email, work email, IM, gChat, Facebook, Twitter, text and so on - that it can be harder to gauge interest or commitment based on the time frame and way someone reaches out. In this installment of my Tech Dating 101 series I will address how technology and texting have changed the moments and days after a good first date. The same day text: Most women I have talked to say they like it when a guy follows up a first date with a short text. It doesn't have to be sexy, or even offer the promise of a second date, but texting is a simple, quick and sweet way to say thanks, without an immediate call. If you had a great time and want him to know, text him yourself. It is one of the most relaxed forms of communication (no login required!) and will keep both of you from getting too wordy.
The three-day text: Consensus among friends is that the day three text could be a cop-out (as in, he isn't ready to commit to a phone call and he's using the antiquated Swingers mentality to make you want him more), but it does count as contact and an effort.
The instant reach out: If a guy initiates communication via instant messaging in any form (iChat, Yahoo Messenger, gChat, Facebook chat etc.) less than two hours after a date he can come off as eager to get the party started. Do with that what you will. I do; however, think it is polite for him to acknowledge he sees you online if you pop online right after your date or in the days following. It's ridiculous to pretend you don't see one another online. That being said, instant messages are not a phone call. If he really wants to talk to you he should still call you up, or at the very least send an email to plan your next get-together.

As one of the many who's over the Halloween-as-opportunity-to-dress-trashy trend, I'd never push an ultrarevealing Halloween costume. Unless, of course, it's revealing for authenticity's sake, as is the case with the Holy Grail of sexy geek outfits: the Princess Leia gold bikini.

This handmade costume from Etsy pulls out all the stops, including making the metal-look bikini "top" out of sculpted clay and wire. It's $295 for the whole thing, which is pretty crazy for a costume, but if you're wearing this, you're already pulling out all the stops.

Sure, it's a bit early to be talking about Halloween, but if it's one of your favorite holidays (like it is for me), it's never to early to plan a truly knock-'em-dead Halloween costume.
