Glowfur Bikini Top: 'Art Meets Tech?'

In this edition of "we all know sex sells but why are these products so darn creepy?" we will be looking at the Glowfur's line of glowing fur swim suits, short skits and faux-glowing fur jackets.

The company, which touts its "creative approach of matching just the right kind of faux fur with special internal lighting technology," has been the talk of geektown this week and while I know bright things can be mesmerizing, I ask you to not get sucked in. That is unless you are planning a time traveling trip to 1997 and hope to slip into a rave.

It seems the gear is lit with LEDs. A long sweater with detachable GlowFur collar costs $99 (which in most cases is actually less than a regular non-GlowFur item), a long coat is nearly $800 (honestly honey, order the Marc jacket instead!) and bikini top is $78.

As Charlie from Gizmodo points out, there are coats for guys too. If they are so inclined.

Pam From The Office Takes Off Her Clothes For Wired

The April cover of Wired Magazine will feature a package of stories about radical transparency, their notion that the next model of business success is laying your company bare to the world-sharing secrets with your rivals, blogging about ideas as you have them, and copping to fumbles and foibles as you make them. Even more transparent, I fear, is the magazine's cover, which features the fabulously funny and smart Jenna Fischer, who plays Pam on The Office. No there won't be any foil wrapping, but Fischer will appear clothed in the top cover and "naked" on a second cover underneath.

"If you're talking about transparency, the obvious metaphor is clear: you're naked," says Wired's Creative Director. "So of course, Wired being Wired we wanted a cover that was smart and showy. And as Creative Director I wanted something that hadn't been done before. We settled on the idea of printing on clear acetate. But it had to be interactive. While Fischer isn't actually naked, the raciness is a first for the magazine and has already started a wave of discussion across the web. The message to "Get Naked And... Rule The World" that I don't take lightly, and I am certainly not alone. "It's familiar boy's club crap," says Back In Skinny Jeans. "Yeah, just sex up the receptionist. Why didn't you throw in the pot of coffee while you were at it? Naked women on business magazines is just wrooooong, and that's why it's never been done before by anyone with class."

Will Cleavage Help Sell The iPhone?

Now that women are just as obsessed with the latest gadgets as their counterparts, is it really necessary to have Playboy model look-alikes drooling over products in ad campaigns?

With the iPhone's release quickly approaching, it will be interesting to see what marketing schemes are used to increase its visibility so to speak. We've already seen the official Apple iPhone commercial but will we be seeing any images like this one I created (yes, that's right people it's FAKE) in magazines such as Stuff and FHM? Thanks to the techie gals over at Shiny Shiny for bringing up the topic of the ins and outs of using sex to sell gadgets.

Xbox Live Community Games Opens For Business Nov. 19

You already play games on your Xbox, download cool demos, even watch movies, but soon if you're an at-home game creator, you can upload your finished games to the Xbox Live Community Game center for purchase. Starting on November 19, independent game creators can make some serious dough by joining the new Xbox Creators Club to create their masterpieces, upload their finished games, and then sit back and check out XBox Live, where people from all across the globe can purchase the new DIY games.

I sat down to chat with Community Games Manager Boyd Multerer recently at a Community Games launch event, and he told me how the idea of selling DIY games got started. To see why he compares the video game industry to the movie industry, and to see my favorite game of the night, just read more.

During my chat with Boyd Multerer, he explained to me how Community Games came about:

The cost of making games is rising quickly, which has caused the gaming industry to look a lot like the movie industry of the 80s - it's all blockbusters. But then Sex, Lies, and Videotape came out, and it was the first real smash independent film to make a lot of money followed by the Blair Witch Project. And now we sort of take for granted that there is a whole bunch of independent movies that you can go see. But we don't have that in the games industry. Community Games is going to allow indie games (and indie game makers) to get some exposure.

There were about 20 DIY games for me to play at the CG Event, but my favorite of the night was CarneyVale. It's a crazy-fun game where you toss a dummy clown from one clamp to another in the air, trying to collect balloons and coins to rack up your score! Look for it when Xbox Live Community Games opens for business on November 19!

Geeky Virgin America Ads: Too Hot to Handle?

No pun intended, but I haven't had the pleasure of flying high in the sky with Virgin America just yet - even though they are the mac-daddies of total-tech airlines. With mood lighting, MP3s on every flight, a 110v power adapter in each seat, personal-ordering screens, in-flight entertainment systems, and best of all competitive prices, I can't think of one good reason why I haven't tested out this hot new airline.

Speaking of hot, Virgin America's ads are quite steamy with slogans like "Whatever turns you on" and pictures of voluptuous women. And after seeing Paris Hilton (strategically), check out the the in-flight, seat-to-seat instant messaging keyboard, I can't say I'm surprised by their advertising strategy - sex sells so they say! I can't say that these "red light airline district" pics do it for me, but then again, I was already sold on all the high-tech features. What do you think? Do you like them, or are they too hot to handle?
