Watching Project Runway every week gives me the itch to pull out my own sewing machine, no matter how dusty it is! I'm getting inspiration from the show and from the geeky crafts I'm constantly seeing.
I've also noticed an influx lately of new sewing machines that are simpler, with big graphic buttons (dare I say more Apple-like?) — my own is a Singer, and I truly believe that I was as willing to tackle learning how to use my sewing machine because of my tech-savviness.

Amateur designers, take note: if you're ever out of ideas for your next fabulous garment to make, download the 99 cent Fashion Idea Generator app for your iPhone.
The next time you're amid swaths of fabric and an idle sewing machine mocking you with its silence, bring this app up and shake: it'll randomly provide you with three fashion keywords, like color, fabric, and technique.
"Beige" + "Floral print" + "boat shoes"?

With Project Runway back in action, and Spoonflower finally available to fulfill my textile design fantasies, it's high time I pulled out my sewing machine. Geeky sewing crafts perk me up, and when you can fuse tech and textile, I'm fascinated. Check out this video from Hack a Day, which demonstrates a machine-embroidered LED matrix.

Not only did this year's Maker Faire offer lots of crafty-techie things to swoon over and purchase, some makers offered gifts of knowledge — like Syuzi Pakhchyan's upcoming book, Fashioning Technology: A DIY Intro to Smart Crafting.
Her book and its crafts, including the Rock Star headphones in the gallery, make me want to whip out my sewing machine and put together these simple but clever geeky crafts for me and my friends.
Syuzi, whose résumé calls her a "roboticist" (how do I get that behind my name?!), represented at Maker Faire last year, too, so I couldn't be more stoked to read her book and start sewing.

Since I'm on an Ikea kick with the Benno faux-mount TV stand, I thought I'd bring you another useful piece of home tech.
The Mikael desk would fit right into my place — I still love the convenience of my Dave stand, but sometimes I really get more done sitting at a desk.
And though the pic shows how great the Mikael is for a desktop computer, I'd use it for my laptop, and totally increase the usefulness — when I'm not laptopping, I can do my bills there or use it for my sewing machine!
