Kid Friendly iPhone App: Scribble

I'm pretty sure I've gone on and on about this before - or maybe it was in a recent chat with lilsugar - but I can't stress enough how fantastic iPhones are when you've got kids that need to be kept busy (aka distracted!). You can pull up either downloaded movies or TV clips from YouTube, and you can even exercise the right sides of their brains with a wonderful app called Scribble!

To get this free app, just go to the App store, and you'll find it in the entertainment section. Oh, and it's free, free, free!

Scribble a New Laptop Design for Sony Vaio and Win $5,000!

Screw decals! I'm designing my own laptop case and getting it straight from the factory looking all hot! Excuse my crass excitement, but Sony is hosting a contest to design the Vaio's exterior, and if you win, you get $5,000!

In the "My Graphic Splash" contest, Sony wants you to turn graphic designer, and in case that five grand is not enough incentive, you also get a trip to New York City and your design will be featured on sonystyle.com.

They provide a design template that you just upload your idea to (and BTW, they advise that you avoid white and stripes. . . but not images of the band The White Stripes). If you need inspiration, check out the laptop design that won HP's very similar contest!

Thomas Paul Moves From Decorating Pads to Mouse Pads

I'm used to rhapsodizing over how much I love Thomas Paul stuff when I'm looking at home stuff, but the dreamy designer has done me proud by making Mouse Pads in his famous designs.

Each mouse pad is as functional as it is pretty - they double as notepads for scribbling - and they're only $9 each, a far cry from what his pricey pillows and other accessories normally cost.

What's Your Favorite Thing About the New iPhone?

Now that the iPhone 3G has been out for a few weeks, those of us who took the shot and bought the new phone have settled in with our new toy, and those of you who are still considering it may be basing you decision on what you've seen so far.

I've been impressed by the quicker speed of the 3G, and having GPS on my phone ain't too shabby either, but the best thing, hands down, is the App Store. It's obviously not limited to the 3G iPhone either - if you got the 2.0 update, you're good to go with new applications on a Touch or first-gen iPhone, but it's the main reason I'm so excited to pick up my new phone. The App Store has impressed so many, in fact, that the New York Times reports that other cell phone carriers are eager to develop more apps for their handsets, too, meaning that you won't always have to be an Apple user to get great time wasters like Scribble!

But tell me, is the App Store your favorite thing about the new iPhone, or are you most excited about the 3G, GPS, longer battery life, or colors?

I like doing art projects and scribbling on the weekends to balance my time spent in front of the computer during the week. It's not that I don't love the Internet, because I always enjoy time spent cruising websites and stores, but I do think it's important to strive to be creative away from the computer - even for geeks like myself. You won't have to stick Post-it Notes on the steering wheel or even worse, scribble on your hand because you can slip your notes into the simple holder, which consists of two flat magnets.
