LG Refrigerator - TV, Remote Control, Kitchen Sink

If you've ever had the burdensome task of buying a major household appliance, you know it's not any fun. There is an alarming variety of models, features and wacky specs you didn't even know existed (seriously, who worries about refrigerator sound decimals on a regular basis?). LG's new Side-by-Side refrigerator offers far too many specs to mention, but caught my eye because it includes a built in 15" LCD TV with FM Radio, remote control, as well as a special Weather & Info Center that provides a five-day forecast for your area (where service is available).

Need to whip up an appetizer in time for your party? This bad boy comes pre-loaded with recipes and can store your favorite digital photos and anniversary reminders. The touch-sensitive digital controls also allow you to manage temperature in the refrigerator and freezer compartments as well as monitor room temperature and reset the water filter status indicator. Oh and if you're dieting or putting your better half on a diet - you can even set the door alarm. Looks like it costs about $3,500, but you have to remember you're getting a gazillion gadgets in one.

Geeky Refrigerator Makes Its Own Shopping List

The end of shopping lists may be near. South Korean's Samsung Electronics is developing a new generation of geeky refrigerators that are equipped with radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, which detects when its contents are running low or approaching expiration dates.

According to the Korea Times, the refrigerator automatically senses inventory needs such as when milk or juices run low, and could even send a shopping list to its owner's cell phone or to the supermarket. The device is scheduled to launch in 2008 or 2009.

Now if only my closet could do the same thing.

Asahi Beerbot Serves Up Cold Ones

The Japanese have come up with a way to better beer, which of course means having it served to you by a cute, white and red robot.

The robotic refrigerator Asahi - named after the beer of course - not only pours the beer for you, but he keeps it cool in his inbuilt refrigerator as well.

Best part about it? He's actually free if you collect 36 seals found on specially marked Ashai beers. Aheeeem. I know what I'm drinking this weekend.

Ruben Studdard Discusses His Tech-Obsessed Life

Recently, AOL's Switched had the pleasure of talking with American Idol Season 2 winner Ruben Studdard about his love for his BlackBerry, how he still wants to get an iPhone, and his annoyance with the short battery life on his iPod, phone, and laptop. Here are some of the highlights from the interview:

On what was the longest time he's ever spent playing a video game in one sitting and what game it was: "About three hours. It was NCAA college football from EA Sports. I played against my brother and my friends and I came out the tournament victorious."
Discussing whether he's a Mac or PC kinda guy: "I have a Mac but I really don't know why. . . . I just love it. I guess since all of my other artist friends had one, and it's the industry standard in every major recording studio I have been in, it just seemed like a really good move. Peer pressure is still alive and well."
On what gadget he would want to have with him on a stranded island: "If I was on a desert island I would need a battery-operated refrigerator with an automatic fire starter and a GPS tracking device on the side."

Celebrity Geek Hideout: LG House Malibu

We're all too familiar with the celebrity red carpets at cell phone and gaming console release parties, but how else are electronic companies wooing celebs? LG electronics turned a trendy beach house in Malibu, California into what Oh Gizmo calls a "geeks dream home." The 3,500 square foot abode is right on the beach and outfitted with the latest electronics and appliances from LG, such as a 71” LG plasma HDTV connected to one of LG’s dual format HD DVD “Super Blu” players, the new enV Orange phone and the LG VX9400 phone, and of course, a LG HDTV refrigerator that has a 15” HDTV in the door.
Sadly, the beach house isn't for regular geeks like you and me. Chris Brown, Nick Cannon and Emmy Rossum have had parties at the pad while Universal Media Studios used the LG House for a party for the cast of shows like Heroes and The Office. What's a girl gotta do to get an invite?

Hello, my name is geeksugar and I have a messy refrigerator. Yes, I'm plenty clean and do my best to keep things sanitary, but I'm a busy gal and can't always remember when I picked up that block of brie or OJ carton. Enter DaysAgo a digital day counter that lets you know how many days ago you opened, closed, stored, watered or changed a household or kitchen item.

The gadget was created in 2005 when two friends Debbie Stephens Stauffer and Kathleen Whitehurst were at Debbie’s home in Northern California working on ideas for a new business venture. During a break, Debbie asked Kathleen to feed her younger son. Kathleen opened the fridge and saw several half-full baby food jars. She also saw a warning on the labels that the food should not be kept more than 3 days after opening. “So how do you know how long they’ve been open?” she asked. The two women pulled together a team of family, friends and experts…and that led to the creation of the DaysAgo, a digital day counter that attaches to food containers and other things that need smart tracking.
