Though I've yet to splurge on a Kindle 2, I'm dying for one, since I don't think I'll ever grow out of my bookworminess.

Until I get one, I'll still read them the old-fashioned way, and I can still use tech to find new reads. Book Army is my new destination for literary recommendations. "Never read a bad book again" is its tagline, and I say amen to that.

From pages dedicated to talking about authors to the book reviews, the pretty UI and easy-to-navigate layout set the site apart. I've already got a few new titles lined up to read next.

There's a good portion of you that are already reading entire books on your iPhone, but there's also a majority of you who are still on the fence about reading from an electronic device. Well, have I got the ideal "baby steps" approach for you!

I came across a new site on DownloadSquad called Wordds that features articles (which people can vote on) and breaks them up into word counts. Each category of articles (1,000, 2,500, 5,000, or 10,000 words) tells you how long it will take to read a particular story - whether it be three to five minutes or five to seven minutes - so you know how long you'll be glued to your screen.

The only big pitfall I see right now is the fact that you can't find stories by topic, which I'm assuming will come later.

Website of the Day: TidyRead

Sick of all the junk and clutter on websites? You know what I'm talking about - huge advertisements and weird pop-ups that you just can't seem to close fast enough? Well I came across a site on makeuseof that will strip away all of the hot messes on websites and provide you with a simple and easy-to-read site. The website I'm referring to is called TidyRead. TidyRead makes a website look really bare, so I wouldn't recommend using it for everyday net browsing, but for phones like the iPhone or T-Mobile G1? Bingo. You can either enter the site's URL for TidyRead to work its magic, or you can use TidyRead's browser bookmarklet (so all you have to do is drag the link into your Bookmarks Toolbar). Simple and very effective.

Safari Launches a Mobile Version of Books Online

I still haven't gotten into the habit of reading eBooks on my cell phone. Call me crazy - because I seem to manage reading pages and pages of emails just fine - I just can't seem to wrap my mind around the idea of reading an entire book on my phone. But for those of you who have already jumped on the phone-reading bandwagon, Safari has just launched a mobile version of its online bookstore.

Accessed by visiting m.safaribooksonline.com on web-enabled cell phones, users can now search the Safari Books Online site to find books. And just a heads up to Safari books newbies, its library selection is basically filled with reference books related to technology, creative, and business and management categories.

If you've already caught onto eReading, whether it's with your Kindle, or reading PDF books on your laptop, then you'll be happy to know that a user-friendly site has been created for eBook lovers. When I first read about Book Glutton on TechCrunch, it instantly dawned on me how great this site really is.

Described as a site that's a cross between a book, a community, and a website, Book Glutton allows users to chat with others on a chapter-by-chapter basis, or you can leave notes on certain paragraphs for people to respond to later. With an easy-to-use interface, Book Glutton offers and engaging digital experience for people who want to discuss their reading with others. The basic "unbound" reader is free, or you can pay for a subscription that offers more functionality.

Would You Buy a Cheaper, Thinner, More Stylish Kindle?

Word on the street is that the current generation of the Kindle is going to be replaced by a newer, younger, and prettier model.

It sounds like it's going to take a crack at improving upon the things that many (and I personally) dislike about the Kindle: the price, which will go down from $359 to a rumored $249, and the design, which is angular and slightly awkward (but surprisingly lovely in person), is to be refined. It's also rumored to be much thinner, and have a better screen.

These things make it easier to justify having a Kindle - in addition to my many books, which I'll never give up. See, I think the Kindle is a wonderful addition to a bookworm's accessories, and its mere presence doesn't eliminate the need or desire for real books, but I know some people will never be convinced.

What about you - if the rumors are true, would you buy a thinner, cheaper, better-designed Kindle, or are you forever a paper-and-cardboard book person only, backbreaking Harry Potter books and all?

Do You Care Which Site You Buy Your Books From?

International bookseller Borders recently announced that it would be breaking free from Amazon after a seven-year partnership. It's already launched a revamped website that's intended to provide a more "real-world" visual online book-shopping experience - something that Amazon doesn't offer just yet. The new and improved site features a "Magic Shelf," an interactive browsing window that enables users to check out highlighted music, books, and movie titles.

I don't know about you, but when it comes to book shopping, I want to get in, get out, and get the best price (all online, that is). Usually I know exactly what I want, so I couldn't care less about a fancy online shopping experience . . . I base my final site decision solely on the price tag. What about you?

The Geeky Good Night Reading Quilt

I try my absolute best to keep gadgets out of the bedroom. So instead of surfing the internet before bed (like I used to do), I opt for reading a good book. I love books, but I don't know if I'd want my entire bed to look like a page from one! When I saw this Bedtime Stories Project on Gearfuse, I thought it was pretty neat. Not only does it look like a giant readable book, but it is made of several layers that can be removed as you read!
