How To: Email People Who Don't Have A Computer

The fact that my aunt prints up my emails and takes them over to my grandparents house made me realize that the following product would work wonders in my family. Presto is a great new service that is designed for people who don't use a computer or go online.

How it works: Using any email account, family and friends can send email and photos to a HP Printing Mailbox user (with its own individual email address) and Presto will convert regular emails into Presto Mail - easy-to-read color printouts. All you have to do is plug the printing mailbox into a power outlet and an existing ordinary phone jack and insert paper and an ink cartridge. Within a few minutes your parents or grandparents will have beautifully printed emails to read.

If you're worried about set-up and all that jazz (which they claim is quite simple), you can either do it from your own PC through the Presto site or call one of their representatives to do it over the phone. The HP Printing Mailbox is $100 and the monthly service is $10. Definitely a great way to stay in touch!

Geek Tip: Easily Take Screenshots With Your iPhone

Taking screenshots on the old iPhone was a difficult task, requiring you to perform a preference hack then do some tricky moves with buttons just to get a screen grab. But thankfully on your iPhone 3G (and if you've updated to the 2.0 firmware update for an older iPhone), it's so much easier and doesn't require any hacking into your new, pristine toy.

To take a screenshot on an iPhone 2.0 (that's "two dot oh" to you, ma'am), all you have to do is hold down the Home button while pressing the Sleep/Wake button. Your screen will flash and presto, you have a screenshot. You can find your shot in your iPhone's photo app for easy download to iPhoto or Windows photo program. Simple. Like the iPhone itself, no?

Geek Tip: Use PhoneVite to Send Invites and Updates

I'm sure you all know and love eVite for sending quick and easy invitations. But I've come across an interesting situation with some of my non-tech-savvy pals: they can go days (even weeks) without checking their email, causing them to miss out on fun evenings cause they didn't get the notice! Can you imagine?! But I still love 'em, so I try to figure out ways to work with them, and not against them. Which brings me to my new fave invite service that's friendly to techies and nontechies alike: PhoneVite.

PhoneVite allows you to batch-send invites, updates, messages, and reminders by voice message to your recipients' phones, and even lets them send an RSVP or message back. To learn how to get started with PhoneVite just read more.

All you have to do is log in to PhoneVite's website, record your message on either your computer microphone or cell phone, enter the phone numbers you want the message sent to, and select either "send now," or schedule a call to go out later. Presto! Your non-email-checking, landline-loving, dial-up Internet pals will still get your invite, and everyone is happy. Oh, and did I mention it was free?

Source

Three-Step Guide to Uploading Videos to YouTube

Are you preventing the world from knowing the genius that is your Britney Spears impression or that video you made of a guy snoring beside you in the library? Use the easy three-step guide to uploading videos on YouTube posted below and advertise your geekiness with us all. As you can tell, I have no problem advertising mine.

For the complete guide, just read more

If you haven’t already, set up an account with YouTube.

Step 1 Log in, click on “my account,” then click on "upload new video" then fill the movie title, description and tag fields (tags are used for searching on YouTube, so if it’s a video of you playing a Wii, type in “Wii,” “Nintendo” and whatever other tag words come to mind. Click “go upload file” tab at the bottom of the page.

Step 2 Click “Choose file” and browse your computer for your video file. Select privacy options – you will have the option of sharing your videos with the entry world, or just viewers of your choice.

Step 3 Click upload video. Presto. You're famous.
