Geek Tip: Listen to Podcasts on TiVo

I've always loved being able to watch TiVoCasts - short video series like Diggnation - on my TiVo.

TiVoCasts were of course derived from podcasts, which I still adore, audio-only aspect and all. (Current fave? The Engadget podcast hosted by Josh Topolsky.) And I just learned that you can get and listen to all your favorite podcasts on your TV through TiVo's Podcaster feature.

This is great for me, since sometimes I forget to sync my iPhone or run out of "headphone time." Being able to play them on my TiVo is going to be a great convenience for me - hello, housecleaning soundtrack.

When planning a wedding, it's almost expected that you go out and spend hundreds of dollars on bridal magazines, books, and maybe even a real-life wedding planner! In this economic climate, the wedding itself is a huge financial burden, so why make it worse by spending unnecessary funds on planning materials? The reason I say this is because there's so many free online tools to help you with your planning and preparation that you really shouldn't have to pay a cent for.

I've already discussed all the great websites available, but did you know there are useful podcasts, too? The Wedding Planning Audiocast on iTunes is filled with useful goodies like how to pick a wedding cake or unique venue ideas to consider. You should also check out the Wedding Podcast Network, which features newlyweds and wedding professionals sharing their personal experiences.

Since we're all so digitally connected nowadays, and because I can only offer so much wedding advice, I highly recommend checking out the Wedding podcast network. The network offers 10 different programs and a ton of great advice from wedding experts and newlyweds. If you're not a big "podcaster," don't worry, you don't need an iPod to listen in and it's really fast, easy, and best of all - free!

Do you Podcast? I don't have my own, but I do love to listen! I have several subscriptions to some pretty cool Podcasts that give me awesome insider info, gadget news, and game hints. Not only are they cool to listen to while I'm working, but there are tons of them to help get me motivated in the gym, too. Who knew technology could be so healthy, right? If you don't already know how to subscribe to a podcast, check out my easy guide, and get to downloading some of these helpful and fun Podcasts. Besides, they're all free. And free always sounds good to me!

Download Of The Day: CoffeeBreak Spanish

My boyfriend and I recently decided we want to take language lessons and visit a foreign country together. The idea sounded fantastic and exotic when we thought it up, but neither one of us has enough time to make it to the drycleaners, let alone a language class.

Thank goodness for the the CoffeeBreak Spanish method. All you have to do is sign up for the site's free podcast and each new episode will be delivered to your iTunes. When you take your daily five to 10 minute coffee break you can be treated to lessons on how to ask for directions, order paella or chat with shop owners - all while mentally preparing for your next vacation.

How To: Subscribe To Podcasts On iTunes

iTunes podcasts are great because you can listen to all your favorite radio shows and audio/video programs anytime. Did you know that you can subscribe to Podcasts so that they are downloaded to your iTunes library whenever there is a new episode? Here are some how to steps, so you can subscribe to all your fave podcasts and rock out for hours.

Open your iTunes
Click on your podcast link in the left window. You will see a list of podcasts you have downloaded to your computer.
Click on the subscribe button that appears next to each Podcast. New episodes will automatically be downloaded to your Podcast directory as long as you are connected to the Internet.

To continue, just read more

Click on the triangle to the left of the podcast title to see a list of episodes you have on your computer.
Click on the get button to download Podcasts' previous episodes.
Click once on the title and then click on the main subscribe button at the very bottom of the right window to subscribe if there is no subscribe button in the main podcast list. This can occur with podcasts downloaded from sources other than iTunes.

Free Podcasts To Get You Through The Day

I am one of those people that keeps my iPod on nearly all day at work - it just helps me focus on what I am doing and not the chitter chatter around me. In an effort to make sure I never tire of my favorite artists, I usually listen to NPR podcasts, some of which most people aren't interested in (think Car Talk's Call of the Week), and others that everyone seems to love (think All Things Considered and This American Life).

If you're looking to fill your day with a little free entertainment and mental stimulation, check out PodcastAlley, which is a great website that is trying to develop the biggest and best directory of podcasts (podcast directory) available on the Internet. Twitter to Be Taught in School: What Else Should Be Taught?

Remember back to the subjects you were taught in school; imagine then if you'd sat through a class on Twitter; learned the ins and outs of Wikipedia. That's the future my friends, at least in Britain: it seems that Twitter, Wikipedia, podcasting, and blogging will be taught in UK schools.

This will all be taught before the age of 11, and while, sure, we don't know how long the first two services will be around in their present incarnations, I suppose it's not entirely shocking that the curriculum is changing to reflect the times. There is a mention of "keyboard skills" as well, and I assume that means typing, which is a necessary skill to have these days, but there are also plenty of other tech-related subjects our kids could stand to learn.

My suggestions? Learning the value of privacy in an increasingly transparent online world. Oh, and where and when not to text message.

TiVo Launches Custom RSS Feeds to Watch New Content

Owners of TiVos know that the devices do so much more than just record shows. Now, they do even more: today, TiVo launched custom RSS feeds so you can get a ton more content on your TiVo.

If you have a TiVo Series 3, a TiVo HD, or HD XL, you'll be able to add feeds or season passes for hundreds of new web videos, shows, and podcasts.

The custom feeds are especially helpful since TiVo's search listings don't always pull up what you're looking for. Having it directly fed in and downloaded makes things way easier.
