Geek Tip: Make Scrapbooks in Photobucket

Remember when I told you about the cool online scrapbooking site called Scrapblog? Photobucket liked it so much that they've teamed up to bring you a Scrapblog app right in its photo-hosting site. So alongside your albums, slideshows, and videos, you can customize your own scrapbook with all those digital photos you've been storing!

There's tons of templates to choose from, and even a few from your favorite shows like Ugly Betty, Samantha Who?, and the juggernaut of teen movies, High School Musical. Finally, my niece can do something with all those Zac Efron photos she's been collecting.

Have Your Pictures Ever Been Censored?

Photobucket has its tail between its legs today after pulling some pictures of babies in diapers, saying that they violated the terms of service - because they depicted nudity!

Member Good Mama Diapers had posted pictures of the offending babies in diapers as part of a contest and then noticed they were all gone. A reporter at CNET News emailed Photobucket to ask what the deal was, and about two hours later, Photobucket admitted to their error and upgraded Good Mama Diapers to a pro account.

I guess Photobucket doesn't know nudity when it sees it! I don't think I've had any photos pulled from MySpace, Picasa, or any other photo sites I've used, but I'm positive they pull things all the time just to be cautious. Has this ever happened to you? It might if some of you posted your Number 1s!

Facebook Decrees Breastfeeding Pictures Indecent

You don't just have to worry about posting pictures that could get you fired on Facebook, but you also have to worry about violating their terms against posting obscene photos - which apparently includes those of breastfeeding mothers.

That's the situation Facebook member Heather Farley found herself in when Facebook took down photos of her breastfeeding her new baby. Their big beef? The areola was visible.

Facebook's spokesman claims that the site doesn't find the pictures obscene, but they're just trying to keep everyone safe: "The company insists it is not about obscenity, but more about safety. The policies are to ensure the site remains safe, secure and trusted by its users, who also include teenagers."

Oh, I see. Because areolas endanger teens. Wait, what? See, I think it's up to Facebook about what they want to do with their site, but I wish they would have clarified their reasoning more clearly. Also, since the users profile photos are meant for the friends they added, why would Facebook even care?

In any case, Farley and thousands others have started a Facebook group, "Hey, Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene!".

This reminds me a lot of the Photobucket incident earlier this year where they removed pictures of babies in diapers, for which they eventually admitted their mistake. Will Facebook do the same?

Yahoo! Photos Is Closing - Move Your Photos Stat!

In case you haven't logged into your account recently, I just wanted to let you know that it's official: Yahoo Photos will begin closing later this summer and will completely close this fall. After it closes, Yahoo will delete all photos that you haven't moved somewhere else, so I highly suggest moving your albums and archives to another service, downloading your photos, or buying an archive CD (the last option is apparently only available to users of the New Yahoo Photos service).

Yahoo has been managing both Yahoo Photos and Flickr for some time now, but they have apparently decided to focus all their efforts on Flickr. For tips on dealing with this, read more
