AT&T Releases First US 3D Smartphone: LG Thrill 4G

AT&T is really trying to up the ante this week. The company already made news on Monday with its $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile; now it's earning bragging rights as the first US provider to offer a 3D smartphone.

The carrier says that its LG Thrill 4G will be out in the "coming months" and will feature a dual five-megapixel camera capable of shooting both 3D photos and high-definition 720p video. Also available to LG Thrill owners is a library of 3D content in the form of photos, video clips, and games by way of the "LG 3D Space." Other specs include a 4.3-inch display, dual-core 1GHz processor, 16GB of flash memory, and HDMI output. Based on what we know so far, it sounds like the LG Thrill is a version of LG's Optimus 3D, which is set to roll out in Europe sometime during the second quarter.

No word yet on how much the phone will cost, but I suspect it won't be cheap. I'm curious to see how the 3D technology affects the phone's battery life (a problem already plaguing the Nindendo 3DS), or if owners will be walking around with motion sickness, headaches, and blurry vision.

Remember this? I absolutely had one of these in my teenage bedroom, it lit up when you received a phone call and just looked generally awesome. Now, Urban Outfitters, my favorite purveyor of funky vintage geekery is re-releasing this teenage classic! The Clear Trimline Phone sells for $28 and has all the features you loved about your first clear phone - yes, it lights up when it rings!

I suppose the only downside to this phone is that it's pretty much destined to remain in the vintage geek time capsule forever. . .or at least until landlines fall back into style.

Pink Metro Phone: Love It or Leave It?

As dependent as I am on my cell phone (ahem, that is, both my cell phones), I still really like having a landline. It's nice to have a back-up, service is pretty cheap, and it just feels normal to me. Of course, I'm still pretty picky about the design of a house phone I'll buy - in that it needs to be a cute part of my decor. I think this retro Pink Metro Phone from Pottery Barn Kids is totally adorable - the style is such an old school and romantic design. And it isn't too retro - it's cordless, of course. Although I don't know if I could commit to the pink (but there is a black version on Pottery Barn's main site). How do you feel about the retro pink phone?
