If you're a Google Earth nut like I am you may have noticed a new weather folder in the layers panel, which allows you to keep up on weather patterns in your area and across the world.
The Google Earth blog reports that the weather folder contains three sublayers (clouds, radar, and conditions, and forecasts) and one information link that gives you some background information on the data being displayed.
The clouds layer depicts a global satellite mosaic of clouds created on an hourly basis so you can log on any time to check out cloud movement in your area.

Last week I discovered Swaptree, a community that allows you to trade books, music, DVDs and video games. This week, I'm obsessed with Bookswim, which is a book specific borrowing program that can best be described as a Netflix for books.
The company features plans for about $20 (there are no late fees) or a 5-At-A-Time Plan for $23.99 (they claim that's their most popular plan but honestly, who has time to read 5 books a month?!).

When was the last time you received a piece of snail mail that wasn't a bill, invite or subscription? As we've become more and more dependent on our portables and inboxes, our mailboxes have become less and less personal. While there are some pretty sweet online postcard services, print cards can be treasured forever — or at least they can't be deleted.

Most of you (58 percent in total) said you would just move on and forgive and forget when the website that you're visiting needs some downtime or crashes. But if it's a paid online or service, a majority of you would consider abandoning that service if it kept having issues.
I received the following email message from an online retailer that I frequently visit, and although I didn't take part in the heavy-traffic sale, I sympathize for those who were unable to take part because of the site outage.

I may talk a lot of game about refreshing your gadgets and accessories before you head back to school, but let's face it — things can get pretty expensive. Between a new Fall wardrobe, books, and tech, you may blow your budget before the school year even starts.
But good news!

Since most of you use Hulu and it's being rumored that the free streaming video site is soon going to launch a subscription service, I'm wondering if many of you would considering jumping ship and getting rid of your cable service? Not a ton of details have been revealed about the subscription service, but it will most likely offer content without ads, or more access to television shows and movies. If I could access all of my favorite shows that I'm watching now online, I'd be all for it, but that would mean every TV network would have to jump on board, and I don't see that happening anytime soon.
